Mill Creek Pool

I’ve lived in the neighbourhood for more than a year and I finally have experienced the joy that is Mill Creek Pool! I can’t believe it took me so long to experience this joy!
It’s probably best to not go on the weekend because I can see this sucker getting busy! We went in the evening on a weekday and it was simply amazing! It wasn’t that busy, there was plenty of room in the pool and a bunch of pool toy bits to play with. We tossed a beach ball, did some swim challenges, went down the slide. You know, fun stuff.
On the way out I could tell some youngin’s were gettin there party on in the parking lot and it took me back to my young people times. Single tear!
Annnnnyways, if you need to find me in the weekday evening time I’ll most likely be at Mill Creek Pool because it’s suuuper awesome!

Great place to spend some time at. Good for families.

This is the only outdoor pool that I’ve been to in Edmonton… and I think it might be the only one (I know there is one in Stony Plain but does that count?). If you come early (around 11 am-​12 pm), you can usually find a nice space to tan.
I never spent long in the pool, because it is PACKED and filled with kids playing with balls that they can’t ever catch. There are lots of children here who seem to be unsupervised. Overheard from my spot on the deck: «OKAY GUYS BRING THE TOY HERE… THAT’S THE THIRD TIME I’VE SEEN YOU HIT SOMEONE WITH IT.»
Really? Three times? That’s the limit? I know my parents would have revoked toy privileges after 1 accident.
The lifeguards there were all super nice and friendly. We did get a nasty stare-​down when we were going in and the lady at the front told us we weren’t allowed to bring our iced-​coffees inside. I think the rule is no open drinks? A bummer because we’d stopped at Credo along the way to pick up some iced coffees to enjoy by the poolside. I understand why the rules are in place but didn’t think it was necessary to glare at us while we stood by the door trying to drink our coffees as quickly as possible. Just two girls looking to tan here, not delinquents trying to pollute the area with our pricey coffee.
THERE’S NO DIVING BOARD THOUGH! Booooooo! If there was I’d be showing off my signature moves (a sad summersault that doesn’t look as cool as it feels).
Overall, I always have a great time when I’m here… But its hard to have a bad time at an outdoor pool!

Something about outdoor public pools doesn’t really sit well with me but Mill Creek Pool isn’t half bad. If you have kids it is a really nice place to take the family on a rare hot summer day in Edmonton. You will be able to experience a nice day like it should be.
It’s not only the pool that makes it enjoyable, it is the trees that are surrounding the pool. It allows you to enjoy a good scene. It gets extremely busy so you should plan on going early if you want to get a good spot by the pool.

Millcreek pool is nestled in Millcreek ravine and is surrounded by trees, which provides a really nice scene. This is a great place to go an lay out a towel for some sun tanning (and the pool is good for a dip too).
The only downer about this place is its popularity, which — yes — adds to the ambiance, but it sucks when the entire area is covered in towel patches and a square cannot be found for you to lay out.
My tip is that you come early in the day — and stay all day! They have a small concession here, and of course the prices are outrageous but what else can you expect? It is fun to people watch here, and I actually could spend an entire day here.
People of all ages come here (actually, I haven’t seen many seniors at this pool) so everyone is welcome — kids, adults, or teens.
This pool usually opens on May long weekend of every year and closes sometime in September

Mill Creek is the place to go in the summer!
If you are looking for somewhere to tan or somewhere to cool off on a hot day, Mill Creek should be your destination location.
I’ll admit, it gets very crowded on hot days (especially on weekends) but it’s still nice. I love going there to tan for a couple hours on a sunny day. Edmonton doesn’t have a lot of outdoors pool options so it’s nice to have one really good one.
They have a little concession where you can get drinks and snacks. They also have lifeguards on duty who actually do their job! If someone is breaking the rules or causing chaos, they are quick to address the situation — which I am very grateful for.
Mill Creek is a great place to spend the days of summer in Edmonton — we have so few so we should make the most of them!

I used to come here all the time to swim and wade. There was a lane for people doing laps, a diving board, and a general wading area. Most of the people who hung out in the pool were families with kids, while most of the sunbathers on the deck were young adults working on their tans and flirting with each other. I started to feel very self-​conscious here and as a result, started going to Queen Elizabeth, which has a more family-​oriented atmosphere.

I’ve gone to Mill Creek pool for a few years now. It’s a fun place that, on a hot summer’s day, is cram-​packed with people tanning their skins for a summer glow. City bars have taken to dropping off flyers at the pool to entice bronzed babes to head on over after their day in the sun for cheap drinks and good times. This is a family pool and yet it is a place for young people and old. It’s tame, good, clean fun and a splashing good time. Don’t expect to swim laps here. It’s about wading (or canon-​balling) in to cool off so that you can bake a little longer. There’s a tiny food booth for hot dogs, chips and pop, so bring some change. They usually have music going and there’s a deck, but if you want a spot get there early because if it’s a hot day it’s a given that every square inch of the place will fill up. I think it’s still $ 4.50 to drop in to the pool.
