I live in Parkallen so I consider this my local community garden even though I am not a gardener with it. I can enjoy the view of the garden and am very happy that my community has undertaken this project to develop a community garden and provided opportunities to local gardens and teaching opportunities to local children. You can learn more about the garden at their website: What I love about our garden is that they have taken a permaculture approach to its design. Wikipedia explain this best: Permaculture is a branch of ecological design, ecological engineering, environmental design, construction and integrated water resources management that develops sustainable architecture, regenerative and self-maintained habitat and agricultural systems modeled from natural ecosystems.“ It has this great natural design that really used the natural contours of the land for its design. This garden also won some awards within its first year of operation from Sustainable Food Edmonton(2012) and from Edmonton in Bloom(2012). I am glad that my community has taken this under utilized space and turned it in to a viable, award winning and highly used community garden. I enjoy looking at it every time I drive by on my way home! Kudos Parkallen!
