Unfortunately, they have very poor customer service. I found the female clerk’s behavior rude. There are other places for Sangak bread with much better quality and nicer attitudes.

Very poor customer service. 2 ladies who work there do not know anything about customer service. no greeting, no smiling, nothing. Their pastries are too sweet to be enjoyed.

When 2 of your Persian clients recommend this, you know it’s the spot ;) Actually, I didn’t like the look of their baklava’s, the ones in DT are a bigger square, laced with more honey and sprinkles of pistachios… their’s are like bite-size. nonetheless, I went with a similar, with more layers of softness of flakes, and whipped cream inside. Incredible. the cherry coconut tart also good too, not as good. And I’ll pass on their chocolate puff cookies, dry and not much taste to it. Very busy. Friendly service, one lady gave out free samples.

I have tried many different kinds of goodies from this place and never been disappointed. This is my to-go place when I need a cake, some Persian/French pastries or a roulette for my party. My absolute favourite is their mocha cake which is layers of yellow sponge cake with heavenly light coffee/cocoa flavoured whipped cream.

How I heard of this place: After a glorious lunch at Cazba, we walked around the corner to Laleh Bakery, where the smell of fresh-baked pastries wafted through the air. Type of cuisine: A Persian bakery which offers traditional cookies, cakes, pastries, nuts and seeds in bulk, including other Persian/Iranian goods. The Foodosophy website offers a perfect depiction of these Persian delicacies: «North Vancouver’s Laleh Bakery specializes in Persian cookies that you serve to accompany traditional afternoon tea. These melt-in-your-mouth treats pair well with tea drinking. They come in a variety of textures that complement the ritual — often slightly dry, flakey, and grainy — with crunchy punctuation provided by walnuts, or pistachios. Some are sticky sweet, or are covered in powdered sugar. Butter and semolina lend their richness, and the subtle flavour of cardamon or rosewater permeate many of these confections. Date and fig jams are used as spreads sandwiched between cookie rounds or as fillings. Preserves such as apricot, or berry jam serve to fill thumbprint indentations.» Ambiance: A simple bakery with wedding cakes in the storefront window, limited seating for those wishing to partake of afternoon tea and a sweet treat right there, but the space mostly caters to take-away boxes of goodies that delight the eyes upon entry. The bright red walls and limited kitsch ornamentation hardly attract the guffaw and attention Laleh may be intending; to their benefit, the trays upon trays in colorful rows making up the display that begins at the door and extends to the kitchen easily distract and attract each customer. What I ordered: We started with a small box and two each of my usual favorite: the Napoleon, Chocolate Dipped Cream Puffs and Chocolate Dipped Cream Filled Almond Cookies. Our hosts added the custard-filled fried dough Piroshki to our mix in order that we might enjoy it over tea back at their home. What I loved: Everything was perfectly sweet, without causing an influx in our sugar intake. Accompanied with a hot glass of(unsweetened) Persian tea, it was the perfect combination for our afternoon snack. I especially enjoyed the Cream Puffs airy consistency and dark chocolate covering, and was surprised at how much I enjoyed the light, melt-in-your-mouth goodness of the almond cookie. Why I loved it: Unpretentious and warm bakery with sweets for every craving, every age and everybody. Cost: «These treats are surprisingly inexpensive — ranging from around $ 6 to $ 15 for a mix and match box. If this is your first time here, get the small box and fill it with a variety. You will quickly find your favourites.»

I love this place. They make delicious baked goods that are simple, full of flavour and not too sweet. I’ve been there twice and everything so far has been really good. My favourite is the small honey bites. they explode with pure honey goodness :)

Try their mille feuille — layers of puff pastry layered with fresh cream. I would eat one every day if I could. All of the pastries here are really well done. It’s my favourite Persian bakery.

If you’re meandering down Lonsdale with a little sweet tooth, mosy on down to 15th& Lonsdale to Laleh for a huge selection of mini baked goods. Each piece is about 35 cents! Catering to little Persia, the lady baker doesn’t speak English, just Farsi. I asked for recommendations as nothing was labeled and she was confused. So I handed her $ 4 and said, «fill the little bag with anything!» She gave me 12 – 15 treats and I was on my way. The photo I labeled«Yummy» was my fav from my goodie bag :)

* Short and sweet * This little bakery tucked away on a side street in North Vancouver makes for a perfect milestone review(#900). They have a beautiful selection of both Persian and European sweets, as well as a selection of dried fruits and nuts. Apparently they also make wedding cakes. I got a small treasure box( ) with a variety of unnamed Persian sweets. While they were all somewhat similar they each had a slightly distinct taste. Some had strong hints of coconut, while others had distinct rosewater flavour, some honey in another, and there was a pleasant pistachio overtone in most. I really enjoyed them! Photos: and The woman behind the counter was also extremely friendly and really made me feel welcome — as if I was visiting someone’s home(who is an excellent baker!). They have a few tables to sit and enjoy your sweets as well, but my visit was short and sweet!
