With nearly an hour to closing we had Japanese staff come from Banf Alberta who wanted to get their cream puffs and bring them back to Alberta. They were all sold out. Nothing nada zip gone! What!!! Isn’t this a franchise!!! It’s like going to McDonald’s and they tell you no more fries or big macs. Or Starbucks with no coffee’!!!’ The Chinese in me says aiyahh and the Japanese in me say Baka.

I came to Aberdeen Mall to have tea with a girlfriend and we did some browsing in the mall. This was one of the stores that we visited. They had a trio special for $ 6, therefore, bought a green tea, regular and strawberry. Limited time special = score for me.

There’s never a bad time for Beard Papa’s. Stick with the original for consistent tastiness. The other varieties can be good, but it’s a bit of a gamble. Beard Papa’s rules. End of discussion. :-)

So I had my «crème brûlée» cravings yesterday while I was in my culinary school. I was going through my mental bookmarks of places I remembered seeing that they had crème brûlée… BEARDPAPAS !! Yes, I knew it!!! So right after school I took the canada line to Aberdeen and got myself that crème brûlée I was envisioning. Okay okay it was okay, I mean I obviously had better but! it was enough to satisfy my craving! It was a perfect size too so I don’t feel as guilty when I finished it.

Get the cream puff, original size and flavor. Eat it there. Don’t wait. Your tastebuds will thank you.

How can you NOT have a cream puff when you walk past this place? My favourite is always green-tea anything. Light, fluffy, and not too sweet creamy cream puffs! Two boxes maximum, as that is all they will sell me. Need I say more? I should be 500lbs, but so lucky that I have a high metabolism. OMG, salivating like Pavlov’s dog right now… gotta go get some cream puffs now. BYE!

4 stars for the good stuff, but 3 stars, if even, for their service & unfriendly attitude – Metrotown much nicer. Busier & bigger location yet I’d rather go to Burnaby still. At least I can pop by Cold Stone Creamery after too ;) Chocolate on top & green tea are my favs. The cookie crumb on top is just ok, not worthy to recommend.

Paris Brest Fraise(?) — $ 2.75(5⁄7) The Paris Brest is basically a donut shaped cream puff with a twisted outer shell appearance. The strawberries complimented the custard well and the aesthetics of the dessert was quite impressive. They don’t serve this everyday though!

I still remember the first time I ever had Beard Papa’s when it first came to NYC. I bought 6 and brought those babies home to share with my loved ones… and then kept going back and back until someone had to stop me before I got sick. Afterwards, I stopped eating my new obsessions and slowly forgot about it… until I kept running into a storefront all over Vancouver and then in Richmond. I finally caved… and remembered why I love thee. Their puff is perfection, and the filling is so velvety divine. I’m a sucker for traditional vanilla already, but when my eyes hit the special flavors of the day board… my honey has to LITERALLY cover my eyes and STEER me away. You can’t go wrong… just pick one… any one… but I dare you to walk away with ONLY one.

I tried one cheesecake stick which cost $ 2.l0 Canadian and one chocolate fondant which cost $ 2.50 Canadian, both were made before hand. I was eager to try the cheesecake stick first but when I took it out of the paper bag it split in half! Not sure if I was clumsy or that it had been on the counter for some time. Anyway it tasted OK, just as I had witten in the title. The fondant, well it’s OK as well. So it’s OK all round. Bottom line is if you like Japanese style desserts then go for it but otherwise it’s nothing to write home about.

If you don’t already have cream puffs in your heart then you can never understand Beard Papa’s. If you like a treat the size of a baseball, freshly-baked golden crisp choux pastry with an ideal chew, piped very full of a perfect mass-produced pastry cream with black specks giving away a perfect vanilla secret, and lightly dusted with confectioner sugar then, you have already seen this in your dreams. If you do have cream puffs already in your heart then you will appreciate the cream spilling out when you take your first bite.

I’ve been eating these cream puffs for quite a while ever since the first store opened at Aberdeen Centre in Richmond. My favourite flavour is green tea because it doesn’t taste as sweet as vanilla. Seriously, these things are overpriced and they’re a bit unhealthy, but they’re okay if you have one or two once every several months. Extraordinary? No. Good, yes. This is my favourite location for Beard Papa’s. It’s the first location in Canada and the quality is always better than the other locations.

They are so delicious! This location is inside the Aberdeen Center. I was at first a little surprised by the size of these crème puffs, a bit bigger than what I am used to. So on first visit, I only bought 2(1 vanilla, 1 coffee) to give it a try. But one bite into it and I was hooked. I went back again shortly and bought me a half dozen…

One thing that I must say is that these are the best cream puffs I have had(until someone beats this, it’s gonna stay this way). Right when you get off the escalator in Aberdeen Centre on the third floor, this is the first vendor you see. Everyone they make, they fill the puffs right there in front of you. Also there are times that there are special flavours, as I just had the milk tea flavour for the day, and it was real good, just thinking about it, I can have it again. They never dissappoint in taste and satisfaction. Just try not to eat too many, if you are planning to eat later, as they can be filling! The only thing that they often do, especially if your too late at this location, is that they actually sell out of stuff by the end of the day. So if your coming in at the end, and you really want one, you might be outta luck!

5 things I love about Beard Papa 1. Even though they are a franchise, they are consistently awesome at every location I’ve been to. 2. Watching the little«factory» line make them and package them in their nice convenient boxes still hypnotizes me. 3. One cream puff is ONLY220 calories. 4. They have«limited» items.(Certain flavors are only avail certain days) 5. The Beard Papa keychain thingy always makes me smile.

Franchises/chains usually have a reputation of being of lower quality, but I actually do believe that Beard Papa makes some of the best cream puffs out there. JONASAPPROVED!

They claim to have the ‘World’s Best Cream Puffs,’ and I can’t help but agree! The Japanese franchise chain made its way into Canadian borders just last October(2007), with it’s first location in the Aberdeen mall(Richmond), and second location on Denman Street. According to reports, the owners of the company initially thought Richmond would be too small of a market. But it turns out Vancouverites are crazy about these Japonized-French choux pastries — their sales have even surpassed some locations in the United States. The original cream-filled puff is always a conservative, yet an excellent choice. BUT, they also have the ‘flavor of the day’ cream puffs that usually sell out. Special creams include Chocolate, Strawberry, Green Tea, and Earl Grey. In addition to cream puffs, they have eclairs and ‘fondant au chocolat,’ which is a warm chocolate cake. The lava cake was added to the North American chains to cater to western audiences. Each cream puff is about two dollars, delicious, and they stress the fact that they only have 220 calories(which is the equivalent to about 4 Oreo cookies). Whether it’s a health-conscious choice is up to your discretion. But whether you’re on a diet or not, just treat your self to one of these for the sake of enjoying the good life. Cheers to cream puffs! The first ever Beard Papa’s bakery is located in Osaka, Japan.
