One of the main things I look for in lunch during the week is something that is filling without being heavy, because the latter makes it hard for me to work in the afternoon(I get sleepy!) Lemonia did a good job of meeting my requirements. I ordered the lamb panini and a side greek salad. The greek salad was mostly tomatoes, I wish I had gotten more of the other veggies(cucumber, bell pepper) and the dressing was very mild, but it was still quite fresh tasting and since I ate it first I was not starving when I started on the sandwich.(This strategy goes a long way to preventing that heavy feeling.) The sandwich was good, I especially enjoyed the bread, which had herbs and spices baked into the top. I was a little disappointed at the amount of lamb and spinach on the sandwich, I hoped for more. The cheese and grilled onions(I think it was onions…) were overpowering, I barely tasted the lamb at all. Since there aren’t a lot of lighter options(even though there are a lot of restaurant establishments) in the area, I might give Lemonia another shot, but I probably wouldn’t get the same items again. For lunch I guess it is reasonable but I try to spend a little less than this on average, the above items plus a can of diet coke cost a little over C$ 11.

If life throws you lemons, visit Lemonia! There’s not a lot of options in the Royal Centre Food Court that aren’t greasy, so this place is a lovely treat! They have kabobs, rice, and lemon potatoes, just like a Greek restaurant, and also paninis and soups like an Italian deli. I usually partake in the veggie panini and side salad when it’s on special, which is almost every day. My side salad of choice is a nice spinach salad with roasted walnuts and goat cheese. I also enjoyed the lamb panini, but when I ordered that with a side salad it was too filling and I gave myself a bellyache. That’s what happens when things taste too good and you inhale them too fast. I am still trying to learn the practice of chewing my food. The service is usually speedy and friendly, and the girls working here are always happy and amused by my antics. They have suggested for me to try new things on the menu and asked what I thought afterwards. To me, this shows that they genuinely care what their customers like and dislike and look for ways to improve. I guess when you’re a local family run operation, its hard not to get squeezed out by the big box business. This is one of my favourite weekday lunchtime getaways from the office.
