Definitely not the best sushi in the world. It’s a quick and easy meal on campus that is not overly oily. However, I have found bones/unknown objects in the smoked salmon quite frequently. The spicy crunchy roll is pretty good! Don’t come late, late in the afternoon as they don’t make any of the rolls fresh then and its mainly cold leftovers from the lunch rush.

The sushi was crumbly, overpriced, and the service was… robotic. I went up to the till and just sort of exchanged stares with the cashier until I realized I was supposed to tell her what I had. In fairness, she was polite about this and seemed a bit embarrassed. Oh, and I think it gave me a mild case of food poisoning. It was a few weeks ago now, but I do remember feeling nauseous afterwords. It could have been something else, but I didn’t eat anything else out of my normal routine, aside from some bubble tea. Man, I really am generous on this website. Even a place I probably got food poisoning from somehow gets 2 stars.

Meh, I’ve experienced better, sums my experiences up quite nicely. In a quick scramble to find lunch in between classes, I found myself here on multiple occasions. Why? I’m not entirely sure. I’ve been painfully disappointed every time. That’s some sadistic shit, I’d say. Anyways, I have a very serious question… what the hell is in that California roll? Is that fish or is it crab? It has a fishy texture; the dry, crumbly taste, but then again, so does overcooked crab. It’s been an ongoing debate between my friends and I. Is it fish or *click* nahwww? The only roll that doesn’t burn a hole in my heart is the chopped scallop roll, it is decent and somewhat reasonably priced. Which brings me to another grievance; how bloody expensive it is. How does anyone have the audacity to charge this much or poor quality sushi? But not to mention, I am an idiot for continuing to galavant towards this place. 1 star goes for the convenience and 1 more star goes for the kind service. If you’re in a hurry, come for a quick meal served with a side of disappointment. But if you’ve got extra time to spare(procrastinating, obvs), then I’d recommend missioning to the village for some better, more affordable sushi.

Worst sushi of my life. And as a bonus, very expensive. Why is this the only sushi place in the Sub??? I really wanted to give it one star but somehow(SOMEHOW!) I ended up eating here at least twice a week for like 4 years, so I guess that merits the extra star.

Definitely not worth coming to. It may be the only sushi place in the SUB, but there are 4(maybe more?) in the village just a few minutes away that are infinitely better(Osaka , Mio , and One More ). For one thing, the food is very mediocre. I mean, it’s edible enough(hence my 2-star rating), but if you’re going to pay $ 9 for a couple of California and yam rolls you don’t want them to be crap. Plus the staff don’t even talk to you. Seriously, I just went to the little fridge, picked out what I wanted, the cashier rang it up and waited for my money. She didn’t even say hi, or what my total was. Apparently it was my job as the customer to lean my neck around to read it off her screen. And this wasn’t even when it was busy! It was at 2pm. At least they accept the UBC card for payment. Given that there were so many other great options nearby(the Moon , Sprouts , In the Cup , Bernoulli’s , and even Subway for crying out loud), I’m angry that I dropped almost $ 10 on something that was pathetically trying to be passed off as sushi.

The Honour Roll seems to have gotten one of those automatic rice rollers. I’ve noticed that as a result the thickness of the rice in each roll is more consistent. The quality of the fillings remains variable and not great, but I’m a big fan of the new consistency of the rice layer.

The only reason I ever eat here is convenience and lack of alternative options. I work near the Museum of Anthropology, where there are really no decent food options nearby. I like that when I’m too lazy to bring a lunch I can stop here in the morning on my way to my office, grab some sushi, and leave it in the fridge until lunch time. Quality wise though, everything is pretty bland and sometimes a miss altogether. I usually get the spicy scallop roll which is decent(although lacking in spice), but opted for the unagi roll instead this week. The eel was burnt so the whole thing had a bitter aftertaste. Gross.

Stay away. This place serves flavorless mush when there are far better quick lunch options a few meters away. Go to Sprouts or the Pendulum or even the Delly down the hall. ANYWHERE but here, I believe they serve the worst food on campus.

A student at UBC that is in-between classes can usually be found meandering around the Student Union Building, known as the SUB, in search of food. The Honour Roll is located in the SUB basement, and while the quality is below average, it definitely satisfies a sushi craving. Most of the meals are prepackaged unless you are lucky enough to catch one of the newly-made sushi rolls that are just about to be put out(or if you request a roll to be hand-made in front of your face). The only roll that is superior to the other rolls and absolutely scrumptious is the yam tempura roll. The yams used are super-sized and succulent, and they dominate the rice in that roll. The other rolls(The California roll, the tuna roll, the salmon roll, etc.) are nothing special but will suffice when there is no other choice because of a limited lunch-time. The chicken teriyaki is terrible — it is served pre-packaged and cold, in a microwavable, plastic container(there are microwaves around, but heating up a meal as a lazy, college student that is pressed for time takes an extra five minutes, considering there’s no line at the microwaves, and motivation). Try to avoid this place during peak lunch-hours, since the line tends to get so long that it snakes up the stairs. It is definitely worth it to make the trek to the Village for Osaka sushi if you are getting anything else besides the yam tempura roll and have the time to do so.

Completely in agreement with Geoffrey B. Only, I want to add that their california rolls have absolutely no flavour! I know what you’re thinking: «California rolls typically don’t have any flavour.» I would have thought that too till I ate here. It just tasted like a big mushed up ball of rice with soy sauce on it even though it had all the element – imitation crab meat, cucumber, avocado. You’re better off going to the Village for sushi.

The quickest, most convienient option for sushi on campus. Located in the basement of the SUB. Nearly all their offerings are boxed up and put in a case for people to grab as they walk by. This means the rolls are freshest when it’s busy, as the staff have to constantly restock the case. Even when they are busy, though, the rice seems a bit stale. It’s pretty standard mass-produce-and-go type sushi. It’s only really worth it if you have no time and a serious craving. Skip it and try going off campus for your sushi needs.
