Nothing to rave about but seems to be a go to for meetings. I’ve generally only had a coffee here so I can’t really comment too much on the menu but I was not entirely inspired. The coffee was mediocre.

We visited Café Causette to try their«Lobster and Bubbles» pop-up menu to celebrate my wife’s birthday, and it was an excellent choice for that occasion. More casual than I expected, Café Causette mixes a comfortable dining experience with high-end service and high-quality food. It was quiet on a Wednesday evening, and I remarked to my wife that it would be also be a great place for a low-key client or business dinner — upscale without being stuffy. We ordered the 3-course set menu(which came with a class of prosecco) and added the Lobster Skewer appetizer to share. Our appetizers all arrived at the same time, and I was quite surprized at how large the portions were, particularly for a nice restaurant in Hong Kong. My wife’s Lobster Tacos were two full-sized tacos stuffed with lobster and other goodies, and would have constituted a hearty lunch in its own right. The Lobster Arancini consisted of four large arancini, fried nicely and filled with a herb-y lobster center. The Lobster Skewers were not particularly large, but contained two satisfying sticks with lightly-grilled lobster tail and claw meat. For the main course we both ordered the Lobster Thermidor, which came with a side of fries — once again, a surprisingly generous portion of both. My wife loved it and I liked it, but that has more to do with my personal taste than the dish or its preparation. If you like Lobster Thermidor(which apparently I only sort of do) my wife insists this one is very nicely done. I found it a bit heavy on the cream and mushrooms, but no one could complain about the large chunks of lobster meat that were hiding that cream and mushrooms. Being a birthday — and a set meal — we ordered dessert, one Vanilla and one Peach. The Vanilla was a crunchy layer cake with cream and a side of ice cream, while the Peach was a tasty poached peach with peach sorbet, both sitting inside of a flaky pastry and surrounded by a vanilla bean sauce. I’m not really one for sweets, but this dessert was surprisingly savory and fresh, with the crisp peach flavor dominating over the sweet vanilla. We capped the meal off with another round of drinks and headed off, full of both good food and birthday cheer.

Had a lovely lunch here, my wife had the butter chicken and i had the katsu don, both beautiful. Great service and good atmosphere but expensive compared to other restaurants in HK. Having said that i would definitely not hesitate to go again

Good option for a quiet, sophisticated yet casual brunch. I can’t really say that everything was exceptional but definitely solid to say the least. Everything was tasty and fresh, but portions were just a little bit on the small side for me. One time I went, 2 girls shared a ricotta pancake and eggs royale and I didn’t think that there was enough food. The ricotta pancakes were delicious although the eggs royale weren’t much to rave about. I did appreciate that they always served the hollandaise sauce on the side. Another time I added a bread basket to share between 2 people and felt a lot more satisfied. The pastries were excellent and you get a trio of very good jams. But then again, you really wouldn’t expect anything less from the Mandarin! You pay a bit of a premium for mandarin too of course; $ 68 for a coffee but you get free refills. Kids-friendly menu available. Some 2-egg dishes come with a choice of toasts. I recommend multi-grain — it’s hearty and delicious for a multi-grain bread.

Café causette is a great place in the Mandarin Orient to take kids. Actually, it’s the only place in the hotel you can take kids, but that’s beside the point. Wee use this restaurant a lot, and most of the time we aren’t even staying at the hotel. They do a fantastic breakfast, and cater for children too with good sized kiddie portions and special children’s cutlery. We tend to meet out of town visitors here a fair bit — they usually aren’t staying at the hotel either, but it’s easy to get to, kid friendly, and handily positioned for sending them off on touristy things after the meal. The food is great, the staff are good and the whole thing just works. A good way to take the stress out of a friendly catch up.
