I am just a simple coffee drinker. Nothing fancy, just Americano add milk. This places only focus is coffee. Find Miu Miu and Fuel is located at the bottom on the escalators directly in front of Miu Miu inside the Landmark. There are a few baked items you can snack on, but this place focuses on only coffee, which I can appreciate(stick to one thing and be really really good at that one thing!). The coffee Americano plus milk was a small serving in a china cup, $ 44 for that small serving, but indeed excellent. This place is designed for the worker and business person who works close by it seems, for there was not a tourist or casual person like myself in sight and there was not a stool to be had in there rather large seating area around 3PM on a Wednesday.

Nice little coffee shop located in the concourse area. Lots of people(that work around the office buildings here) seem to be here for coffee/meeting.

Central isn’t the first place you’ll think of for good coffee — I mean with all the better boutiques in Sheung Wan and Quarry Bay, there’s little reason to. Central is mostly big chains and cookie cutter corporates(but do note Coco Espresso has recently set up shop on Stanley Street). Luckily, there’s still Fuel Espresso, conveniently tucked in the basement of Landmark, where you also have at least 5 other options eg. Simply Life, Starbucks, Ciak, Urban, etc, that don’t offer a cup as satisfying but charge a discount to Fuel.(Robuchon has blue mountain if you’re willing to pay) The second shop of this New Zealand based boutique uses the same top notch La Marocco espresso machines and has a quite full bodied blend with a low level of acidity. Perfect for an afternoon jolt and complements their velvety milk as well — I typically go for their flat white. Aside from sourcing premium coffee beans in South America, the owner also has a family run coffee farm in India that supples to Illy among others. Fuel has built a quiet reputation as a power coffee stop in Central, a testament to it’s eye for quality.

Fuel is the best coffee I have found in Central. It’s stated mission is to make great coffee using the finest beans, the style of which is reflected in the cup. In addition to coffee, Fuel has a few sweet and savory treats on offer to tempt you. However, the selection, although lovely, is not as big as you might typically find in a coffee shop. Instead, Fuel focusses on the coffee itself and, to be fair, does a good job. The espresso is dark and rich — arguably too rich for me on its own but ideal with a little milk. Being located in the Landmark, the coffee is on the pricey side. However, the staff are friendly and it is an extremely convenient option for me to slip out to and grab a mid-morning brew.
