Gong Cha

I have sworn off ever drinking from Gong Cha many times before but I’m not sure why I’ve caved in yet again. It’s probably because it promises a really good drink at a really good price, but watch out!
I’ve been a fan of the milk cap drinks since I’ve started trying this place. It’s kind of like a savoury and sweet foam at the top of your drink. Super creamy and yummy when having it mixed in your drink.
The reason I’m writing the review is to remind myself NOT to have this again. I’ve basically tried multiple franchises, different drinks, and everytime I have this, my stomach acts up. Nothing too serious, mind you, but enough to give me discomfort. Basically I get a bloated stomach and the urge to burp– something that my stomach does when it doesn’t agree with food. Then I feel gross and bloated the rest of the day. Not good.
The other problem I have with it is that it’s WAY too sweet. I order it 微糖which is the lowest degree of sugar before you ask for no sugar, but I still find it sickeningly sweet. I never finish the whole drink because I start to get nauseated about halfway down. I do finish the jellies, or the solids though.
It’s great if you like a cheap drink, but I think your body pays a price for it. Or maybe it’s really just me– but it’s enough to get me questioning about their quality and hygiene… And to avoid it in the future!

Not bad, but not the best bubble/​boba tea I’ve had (I.e., I’ve had better in San Francisco). I may be a bit biased, though, because I got a plain tea with pearls instead of a milk tea (I think the woman at the cash register misheard me). AT liked his earl grey milk tea, though, so maybe I just had a singular subpar experience.

SO GOOD! My sisters and I love this place. In fact, we came here before we went to the airport to fly back to America!
They messed up on our drinks, but they were willing to fix it so its all good!
I will come back here when I visit HK again!

$ 16 HKD (about $ 2 USD) for the deluxe Earl Grey Milk Tea with boba, pudding, and grass jelly in their largest cup!
DRINK: A
The drink was perfectly sweetened, and for those who know me, I love earl grey, so it would’ve been hard to make this drink better in any way.
BOBA: B
The boba was a bit harder than I expected it to be, and it could have been improved greatly by doing various things (honey boba please!). However, the other toppings (pudding especially) were amazing!
Overall, great service and great tasting drinks! The cashier was very friendly even though our Chinese was very crappy and broken. Will be back again the next time I’m around!

Though long lines often snake out of this nearly-​hidden stall, the reward is always worth the wait: a near-​endless variety of teas and juices with a number of add-​ins such as pearl tapioca, jelly pudding, coffee jelly…
It is perfection, particularly the Gong Cha Milk Green or Black tea (topped with a cap of salty cream foam) or the classic tapioca milk tea, which is especially satisfying on a cold day. So much better than Starbucks!

if you’re looking for this place, make sure to look behind the shop storefronts which are blocking it from view. basically a take out counter. an alternate to sharetea.

Just discovered the ice coffee here! I get mine with less sugar and it’s perfect. It’s a chain, but they have decent drinks. The perfect refresher since its in an area where we like to shop. A little hard to find but now that we’ve discovered it, we’ll definitely be back.

I know Gong Cha is a chain store.
They only have one size. Prices range from 12 — 20HKD on average depending on what you want. (I really like the Grapefruit Green Tea)
You can also choose the sweetness/​sugar level as well as how much ice they put in it.
They also can make some beverages hot!
It’s not the best milk tea place in town, but it satisfies my cravings.
This location is tricky to find. It’s hidden behind all the little shops along the alley/​street. So if you’re on queens road, turn right into Li Yuen Street EAST. You’ll see the little shops that crowd the alley/​street. Keep looking to the right, behind the little stall/​shop and you’ll find it! If you end up at Des Veoux Road, you’ve missed it.
