You’ll find lots of sushi in Hong Kong, and maybe some will be turned off that Itacho is a chain, but it’s very good. The crowded Lyndhurst location is my regular stop. You order on a tablet with illustrated menu items, so it’s clear exactly what you’re ordering. I usually get the crab and shrimp roll and a couple of pieces of salmon and waygu beef rib. I’ve never been disappointed by the quality, freshness and amount of food. There’s not much in the way of service, but I don’t normally downgrade that for a lunch place.

It’s surprising to find that this Itacho in Central did not have a queue during lunchtime. Looking at the lunch menu and the price seemed reasonable so me and my colleagues went in. Then another surprise — a mango-guacamole salad with sesame dressing?!(I always assume guacamole is a dressing by itself…) Never mind, I took it as a new adventure. The sashimi rice is okay, not extremely fresh but ok for a pass. Now things doesn’t seem that surprising…

I was quite disappointed with the array of sushi choices on the menu. None of my favourites(read salmon skin hand roll, spicy salmon gunkan maki and California rolls) and it was quite hard to order using their tablet menus. We ordered an array of sushi which tasted pretty average. I have always loved a foie gras sushi but this one was over cooked and just tasted wrong. Then the tempura. Oh the tempura — tasted of nothing but batter. The only thing going for the restaurant is that it was comfortable seating. I won’t be trying this one again.
