I was craving Mexican food in Hong Kong when I stumbled on this fusion Korean Taco restaurant. Our group ordered a pork burrito and pork and chicken tacos. You can choose to add kimchi for an extra 10 hkd, and choose your spicy level from zero, spicy and«Korean spicy». I opted for the spicy option to be safe and I found it only slightly spicy so if you’re a fan of Korean food, I would recommend trying the spiciest option! Portion size: The burrito was very filling but the tacos were slightly lighter. One set of tacos probably won’t fill you up if you’re very hungry.

I was here last night and got the chicken rice bowl, medium spicy. I was quite disappointed. Firstly, the spicy sauce was a thick red gunk that was way overloaded, making it hard to eat. The sauce taste quite artificial and was too spicy and too much, totally ruined my meal. The chicken was breaded and REALLY deep fried, and I had imagined a marinated chicken. Perhaps they should have specified on the menu how it’s cooked. The breading was way thicker than the meat, and I didn’t think it was very good quality meat. I had to pick around the breading and really didn’t get too many bites of actual chicken out of it. Good mix of different veg. but had to eat around all the spicy sauce. Between eating around the sauce and the breading of the chicken I think I’ve left about 1⁄3 of the food untouched. Such a shame. TIP: Get the sauce on the side. I saw other people get rice cakes and noodle hot pots. I didn’t see that on the menu. Maybe I will try that instead(if I ever go back) because it looked way better.

I am a regular here — love their beef Baap bowl and also the spicy eggplant, which you can add in. I’m also able to call them ahead of time and order on the phone which is great! There’s quite a bit of seating, so nice to come off hours for a quiet bite

A basement eatery on Wellington Street — just a stone’s throw from Lan Kwai Fong, a perfect place to grab some pre-party grub or just for some comfort food. TaKorea serves honest, hearty Mexican-Korean food. Their Korean fried chicken is solid, now picture that inside a burrito filled with Kimchee fried rice and sour cream. How about Kalbi-beef inside lettuce, topped with their secret sauce and all inside a crunchy taco shell? I don’t know about you but after trying this, I fell in love, told that taco saranghaeyo then we ran off into the Mexican sunset together. Also had a bite of the fries, which was basically a Mex-Korean poutine doused in their secret sauce with a choice of beef or chicken on top. It was heart-clogging, satisfying and also a meal in itself(if you choose the large). The prices are good, you won’t spend more the HKD150 here. The place itself is pretty bare bones — think a bunch of chairs and tables within a four walled basement confine, you wouldn’t take a date here. Actually, yes you would. Cuz if she don’t appreciate this food then she sure ain’t the one. Hyperbole aside, if you love Tex-Mex, Korean, bar food, or comfort food in general, as I do, Takorea should be right up your alley. Give it a shot, you might ditch that date and run away with the taco, too.

This place has quickly become one of my go-to’s for lunch, often close to even breaking my ‘only once a week’ rule. Love anything with the K-pop fried chicken — in the burrito if I’m really hungry and or in the tacos if I’m not in need of as much. The Takorea burrito even satisfies my burrito cravings for good olé US Tex-mex better than Cali-mex. The flavors are bolder and the cheese/sour cream is nicely melted in with the rice and spread evenly throughout the burrito. Although a single order isn’t usually enough for lunch, Takorea remains in the weekly rotation!

Though Korean fare + Mexican cuisine sounds like a culinary marriage destined for disaster, as it turns out it’s quite the harmonious relationship. TaKorea serves tasty Korean-Mexican mash-ups such as burritos and tacos as well as more traditional Korean eats, such as baap bowls, kimchi fries, KFC(Korean fried chicken), and caramelized sweet potatoes. And it’s all well-priced, as this type of food should be! For example, a burrito combo(served with fries or salad plus a drink) will set you back 100HKD. Pretty reasonable for a filling lunch or dinner in Central. Of course I had to try the burrito, which consists of a warm flour tortilla wrapped around kimchee fried rice with fresh veggies, sour cream, mozzarella cheese, and TaKorea’s signature sauce. I chose the K-pop chicken as my protein(hormone-free Brazilian boneless thigh meat), though they also offer spicy pork, eggplant, or Kalbi beef with BBQ sauce. And oh wow was it good! I highly recommend the K-pop chicken, which was juicy, flavorful, and extra messy once doused in the sweet and zesty signature TaKorea sauce. The burrito barely contained the generous serving of chicken, but the expert-wrapping technique somehow managed to hold it all together. In San Francisco, there’s Sushirrito(sushi wrapped in a ‘tortilla’ fashioned from seaweed) but I much prefer TaKorea’s burrito lovechild!

So, this TaKorea = Taqueria — nice play on words. =) Basically, they have Korean meats, combos, kimchi, and other veggies but put into a Burrito or a Taco or a Bowl. The Burrito is Handy if you are on the run or if you don’t have a bowl and utensils in your office. For 80 $ you start off with the burrito. Add $ 10 and you get extra Kimchi. I believe there is Kimchi already in it but the girl told me to just add the extra Kimchi. I was thinking she was trying to upsell me but I don’t really know since this was my first time trying it. I had the Korean Bulgogi Beef so even if I was eating it in Burrito Form, you can still taste the flavor of the meat. *thumbs up* I did enjoy my burrito and I will be coming back. They have plenty of seating so feel free to bring a friend and dine in! If you’re looking for a waiter, you won’t find one.

Paid my first visit to check out TAKOREA. Not disappointed. Ordered the Kpop Chicken burrito which was packed full of chicken, filling and most importantly flavour. It was my second burrito of the day and it stood head and shoulders above Cali Mex’s more expensive alternative. Menu is simple, atmosphere relaxed, staff friendly and helpful and really well priced given the competition a few doors down. Add fish to the menu and TAKOREA is offering the perfect Korean fusion homemade food.

Decided to check TaKorea out as a lunch spot since it was near the office. Had heard they were still in soft opening mode and they were giving out 20% off so I gave it a shot. What was assuring to me was the fact that the owner’s husband was in the front greeting while in the back the wife and an ahjuhmah was cooking and preparing the food. That is always a good sign when real Koreans own the place. The menu is very simple– you have the option of Bowls, Burritos and Tacos and fillings are Beef, Chicken, Pork, Eggplant. They have a few other options like kimchi fries, salads etc. but we decided to be less adventurous this first visit. My coworker got the Kpop Chicken Bowl, which was pretty much a bibimbap. It was very tasty and delicious. The chicken was tender and not oily and the rice came with assorted vegetables and a fried egg. Good portion for lunch. The kimchi was also the highlight. Rumor has it that the kimchi is homemade– that is why it tasted so good! I had the Kalbi burrito and added Kimchi to it. The meat was marinated to perfection. Very delicious. The rice was kimchi bokumbap, which was also quite tasty. The addition of kimchi was a bit lost in flavor. My only suggestion for the burritos is to add cheese and maybe some kind of sauce/salsa in it to bind it– and to source better tortillas. It was quite dry and too chewy for my liking but overall, very tasty. All in all, good food and a great option for lunch. Will be back!
