Banyi Japanese Dining

This place was surprisingly good. I say surprisingly because I tend to avoid temple bar eateries and their jacked up prices. Firstly the service is really good, smiling staff, warm welcome and efficiency. Then the food, the real reason a place will make it into my good books and recommendations, it is awesome!
I have been eating sushi for years and years but this place has taken some creativity into its menu, o tried the house special roll and it was unreal. We had a great experience and will certainly be back to try more.

Such great service! Loved the starters and the rolls were a perfect size. Attentive staff without being overwhelming, and relaxed atmosphere. Nice for a relaxed date night or casual dining. Recommend it!

I made reservation last night. Maybe because we’re 30 minutes late we had a table downstairs which my friends didn’t like a bit Coz the table we had is near to the toilet.
We had the Christmas deals they have for 3 meal course. The starters were great but the ebi tempura is a bit over cooked that it’s a bit hard to eat. The gyoza that my friends are having are the best. On the main course we had a pork ramen which I recommend the best. The desserts are also nice. And the home made ice creams are very good also. Overall we paid like 120 € for the 3 of us. For a full course meal for 3 people with a bottle of wine.

I was alone one night during a week long conference. I had a craving for sushi and was looking for a place that would not be too terribly awkward to eat alone. Since my data sucked, I decided to bear the cold and walk until I saw something Japanese, or anything Asian. I was pleased to find Banyi. They were so incredibly friendly and accommodating. I ordered their bento box special which included Halibut, 3 gyoza, 4 chef picked maki (in this case avocado and tuna), seaweed salad, miso soup, and white rice all for under 19 Euro. I also ordered the beef tataki as an appetizer because I literally hadn’t eaten all day. Beef tataki was good. The gyoza and miso soup were my favorites of all. The maki was yummy, but a little heavy on the mayo-​based sauce. The halibut however I just couldn’t eat as it was super oily and almost jelly in consistency. The manager noticed I did not eat the fish, so he asked if I wanted anything else — I was going to order a 2 piece tuna nigiri anyway — he was very sweet about it. I am not one to complain, but he had asked. To my surprise, he removed the entire bento box from my order and only charged me for my cocktail, nigiri, and tataki. This is some serious customer service. I really did not expect it; it was above and beyond. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone. The food, service, and décor is just lovely.

Great restaurant. Cosy and intimate with a nice atmosphere. Good quality ingredients, fantastic presentation and generous portions. Affordable and all round good value for money. The only reason I didn’t give it a full 5 stars was the service wasn’t up to scratch. Our waitress wasn’t attentive enough and lacked any customer service skills which we could have excused if we had of received a smile throughout our dining experience but didn’t seem like she wanted to engage with her customers. Disregarding that I would still recommend giving it a visit as the food is definitely one of the best I’ve had in Dublin.

If I were made to choose to eat at only one Japanese restaurant in Dublin, I would not even hesitate to choose Banyi. I have been here several times and this place never ceases to impress me. And somehow they manage to surpass my expectation of them every single time.
This restaurant is great whether you just want to have a casual lunch with friends or have dinner for a special occasion.
The staff are so friendly and very attentive that they do not even have to ask you who ordered what. Their menu changes often which I think is great as they offer variety.
The food is delicious and is visually appealing. You almost don’t want to eat it because the presentation is just too pretty! Haha
This place is on the pricey side but every single cent spent is so worth it.
I highly recommend their black sesame ice-​cream and their salmon teriyaki!

Have been looking for a great sushi place since I arrived home from california (amazing sushi) last month!
This place is AMAZING! I am absolutely beaming as I write this! Well worth the money if you have a love for sushi. The rolls are as beautiful as they are tasty.
Staff were lovely and service was quite quick, we ordered the spicy tuna roll and I asked to put avocado in which was no hassle! It was ace! We also ordered the tiger roll (tasty but slightly dry) and the hotate roll (perfection).

The prettiest Japanese food I’ve ever had in Dublin! The Udon was a little bit scary…

Really enjoyed the food here, very fresh and tasty! Staff are attentive, but not intrusive and felt like we were back in Japan. Was very surprised that I had passed this place so many times and only came in by chance to try somewhere different for sushi. Definitely worth a visit!

An authentic Japanese restaurant, in the heart of Temple Bar, but without the typical Temple Bar price tag. A great place to go in couples as its cozy, slightly on the dark side with candlelit tables, giving you privacy even if you are close to another couple. Perfect for a romantic night out!
My wife and I went there for my birthday dinner and we were quite amazed at the great service and quality of the food. The salmon was unlike any salmon we had tried before (and we love Japanese food). It was definitely fresh, and I wouldn’t have put it behind the chef if he had just fished it minutes earlier.
The Banyi Combo was a good choice, but the food was so well prepared that we simply had to order more. To end the night, we didn’t skip dessert and boy am I glad we didn’t! The Baileys Chocolate Ganache was simply divine! Talk about a mix of flavours in your mouth!
Banyi is definitely one of my top 5 restaurants in Dublin for a nice, quiet and romantic night out!

This is by far the best Japanese restaurant I’ve ever been to outside Japan! The staff were ver friendly and I was pleasantly surprised with an «Irasshaimase» (Japanese for «Welcome») upon entering.
The service was excellent, the food came pretty quick and the staff were very attentive and polite.
The interior is really nice and the atmosphere is classy yet pleasant, and the walls have some beautiful Japanese paintings.
The sushi and sashimi were amazing, I would have to say one of the best in Dublin! The fish was really fresh and succulent, and the Tamago (egg) nigiri sushi had just the right amount of sweetness. The presentation of the food as well is really pretty and done to perfection, and I was surprised to see dry ice steaming out from under the sashimi! Also I really liked the miso soup here too.
My dad had the beef tataki and a rib eye steak, which was served with a bowl of rice and looked really good too.
In terms of price, it can be a bit on the pricer side of things, about 7 – 8 euro for just a starter, and 18– 20 euro per person for a main, but the sushi and sashimi selection is only 12.50, which is a good deal and great to try if your unsure of what to order, especially with the sheer amount of sushi on the menu. You can also order selected sushi a la carte, 3.50 for 2 pieces, or 4 pieces of sashimi for 5 – 6 euro. I really recommend Tekka (Fresh Tuna) or the sea-​bass sashimi.
Overall, ⁵⁄₅ sushi, ⁵⁄₅ service, beautiful decoration and quite authentic!

After reading the great reviews from the Unilocal Foodie Club, I decided to make a trip myself and check it out!
Reservations over the phone were friendly and efficient, which flowed through to the service when we arrived. Food was very good — we got the special bento box at € 18.90 which includes pork tonkatsu, gyoza with ponzu sauce, sushi, sashimi wakame salad, miso soup and rice. A proper feed!
My piggy friend ended up ordering the mango cheesecake which was presented beautifully and tasted great. Asian restaurants tend to not take desserts very seriously so this was a thumbs up for Banyi!
Oh — and when making a reservation, ask to be seated upstairs rather than the basement! (and I just realised I ended every paragraph with an exclamation mark) !!!

Good service but
You have to give the service top marks. The staff are an example to other restaraunts. Now to the food. We have been lucky to eat in Morimotto in the Waldorf Bocca Ratton so everything is measured against this and tbe NYC experiences.
The sashimi is too thick. The sushi rolls lack the combination of flavours that I would expect.
The coffee here is not good. I love coffee and this ranks amongst the worst.
Less focus on the prz and more on the food.

I had the tempura meal, and my boyfriend had the mint miso lamb. I was throughly satisfied with the the tempura — it was made just like how a true Asian would enjoy it. The lamb was a bit too salty, but was still tasty, very well marinated.
The service was superb — I have to say probably one of the best I’ve tried in Dublin outside of a 5 start hotel setting. Very attentive and very smiley and willing to help, it was a delight to be served by them.
All in all, a great experience. I put one star down because the sashimi seems a bit too pricey, although from what I saw of my meals and other customers’ meals, the presentation was so good, it might be worth it!
Will definitely be back again and maybe change that 4 star to 5!

Only after discovering this place after being a sushi lover for many years around and I have to say i loved it. Great service and daily specials and décor.
Myself and a friend had a shared sushi platter which came on this great steaming boat. For a main we had the daily special bento box which tasted fantastic. Its not cheap but I have to say it was worth it.

I attended a really enjoyable Unilocal Foodie club here. Seven of us, Unilocal faces familiar and not so familiar, were here to enjoy the wares of Banyi.
The décor is nice. I especially liked the painted windows, really captured the Japanese tone of the place.
The food I ordered was delicious, I had the Gyoza for 7.50 EUR to start and the Salmon and Avocado Norimaki roll for 9.25 EUR. Both really tasty. All the food was presented really well, the sashimi boats that Michelle and Bez ordered were especially impressive. I did think the portion of the sushi I ordered was a bit small for the price. And I know the folk who ordered the bento box were not full after it, that cost 18 EUR.
The wine, chosen by Bez, was an excellent choice. An Alsace Riesling, which I probably wouldn’t have ordered because of the price, 30 EUR is a little above my normal budget for a dining out wine. But I was delighted he did choose it, it really added to my meal.
I also had the Cosmo Sake after my meal, which was a Sake twist on the old favourite, Cosmopolitan. For 8.50 EUR I thought it was excellent value and an excellent cocktail.
The staff were extremely pleasant and very attentive. I even got a smiling thank you from one of the chefs as we left.
Nice food, nice place and nice people. However I am dropping a star for the value of some of the dishes.

Highly recommended. A few points to entice you:
— Excellent location, right next to the Ha’penny Bridge, down a little forgotten-​about lane way in Temple Bar
— Lovely décor inside — nice Japanese art, incense burning, comfortable lighting, etc
— Excellent service. Very attentive, very friendly (if a little formal, though that goes with the territory with the Japanese I guess)
Now, it is a little on the pricier side, but, the food was really very good. For starters, I had the Fillet Beef Tataki, which is grilled fillet steak slices served with Ponzo sauce. This was ok. The beef was far too done for me, and the sauce didn’t have much depth to it. If you do like good crispy beef (it wasn’t tough), this would be the starter for you.
For main, I split the spicy tuna roll (minced tuna mixed with scallion, chives and kimchi base), and the spider roll (soft shell crab, avocado and wasabi mayo). Both were really exceptional. Served beautifully, really tasty, and filling. Be warned that the spicy tuna has quite a kick to it!
Overall, I would definitely recommend it, and will be back myself.
