Break the piggy bank before you come here. They stock all things natural, organic and local with a few imported items. I came looking for a natural tooth paste. They had a small selection from $ 6.30 to $ 22.80. I may be all about organic and natural, but I’m no fool — you can keep that $ 22.80 all to ya self!
The staff is well versed in the products they stock, which meant the cashier was helpful when I asked her to recommend a product. Turns out she was familiar with Toms of Main. I wanted something comparable, so she helped me make an informed decision. I was also pleased to see they carry Dr. Bronners soap. If you don’t know about Dr. B’s magic soap, get some and have your world rocked!
Aside from toiletries, they also stock locally grown produce and dairy. Dry goods such as lentils, rice, pasta, teas and coffee are also readily available.
Overall a friendly store. Most of the natural or local organic items you may be seeking can be found here.

The Supermarket is great, to a point. You can pick up almost all the food you need in one place, without really having to think very much as the packaging and brands are all familiar. If you take some time to step back and think about what you REALLY want from the food you cook it might lead you to think about where you shop. I still predominantly buy food from the supermarket, but I do like to mix things up with a trip to a Health Food /​Organic store. The nearest place for me is in Grey Lynn and there is more here than my tiny mind can process, the variety and diversity of the produce is great. It’s also a great place to pick up Homoeopathic remedies, Arnica being what this accident prone reviewer stocks up on regularly!

Every step you take in here you feel a little healthier inside. Just thinking about all the good stuff you’re going to be consuming from this healthy oasis makes you feel nutritious all over. Okay. Maybe a little over board… they sell organic stuff here (nothing pretentious about that!). Actually my favourite thing here are their giant pumpkin seeds, they are so to look at, they are a deep green colour and full of flavour, they are more crunchy than the small ones we buy in the supermarket and their texture is more enjoyable (maybe because they are bigger and a slightly different shape as well?) you can buy honey wholesale here, as well as dish washing liquids, powders etc. It’s a really homely, lovely store and Grey Lynn is so lovely to stroll around in.

Harvest Wholefoods is a great place to keep in mind when looking for gluten free products, free range and organic produce and fresh bread.
Harvest also has an entire section of the store dedicated to health supplements, naturopath and homeopathic remedies. The staff at Harvest are incredibly knowledgeable when it comes to these products and provide really helpful advice and recommendations.
During winter months I suffer quite badly from chilblains which may seem like a bit of a joke but can be really painful and debilitating. I went to Harvest in the hope of finding some sort of relief, and was really impressed with how seriously the staff took my problem and was pleasantly surprised by the range of potential remedies I could choose from.
If you aren’t happy with the advice you are receiving from conventional practitioners, I highly recommend seeking assistance from the staff at Harvest — they’re really friendly and happy to help!

I love this place. Love it. Because I can eat almost everything in it. Being plagued with being gluten and dairy free has its challenges when trying to shop at most supermarkets. But not this one. They have everything you need if you’re on a specialty diet, or if you’re just following the crowd and doing it anyways.
It’s really handy if you need something on your way home from work as it’s open until 7pm on weekdays. And it also has a brilliant community vibe that makes me want to always go there because I know I’m helping a local business.
I’m always surprised with what I find there, they make my life a whole lot easier as I know I can go there and come out with everything I need to make a meal that I can enjoy.

Stopped in here to pick up some gluten free stuff for a family member because I was in the neighbourhood and I know there is plenty of choices on hand at this legendary Grey Lynn health food store. If you are looking for organic, natural, free trade and responsible grocery items this place will stock it. They’ve got bulk bins, a whole aisle of eco-​friendly cleaning products, even the good version of pet food. Any questions about any of their products then ask a friendly sales person, you are guaranteed to get an in-​depth low-​down. They even have a resident naturopath if you are after specialized advice.

As a vegetarian/​pescetarian/​some form of –tarian for almost a decade, I can find it extremely difficult to get enough protein in my diet. Luckily for me, not only does Harvest Wholefoods stock a ridiculously large range of meat-​free protein options, but the staff are cheerful and happy to help you choose what’s right for you. I head to Harvest to buy from the full range of Fry’s, Linda McCartney and Tonzu products and often walk out with an armful of delicious patties, sausages and salamis. Harvest’s bulk range is also amazing — I love tucking into their hazelnuts and appreciate the fact they sell full walnuts, just ripe for a crackin’!
