Portofino is the only restaurant in Devonport that has been around for in Excess of 15 years and it’s menu hasn’t changed at all — it’s classic home cooked Italian food it’s not fancy it is conservative but always consistent. I have been coming here since I was a little girl and the owner and chefs are still the same. It’s a Devonport institution and locals who have been around for a while love it. I will always be a fan!

The majority of restaurants deliver high quality food, well made and full of flavour. Price is seldom an indication of what to expect, and it is my experience that you shouldn’t take too much from the décor or location of the establishment. What you should do, is see who eats there, and determine if they are regulars. Portofino Devonport is far removed from other Portofino restaurants. It just delivers a different kind of ambience. You immediately feel at home, and the service is excellent. My wife and I came here on a regular basis, and it will always remain special to us, for being the first restaurant we visited in new Zealand. We always grab a table by the window, it does not offer much of a view, but the street lights add to the vibe and experience.

Portofino has always been one of my faves, and the Devonport one is definitely one of the best. The restaurant is really stunning and being right by the water you automatically feel like you’re in a beautiful place. The food here is really yummy, my favourite is this salmon pasta with this lemon cream sauce, it’s so good I pretty much order it every time I go there. Hard to beat, even. They have a big menu and they change it up often enough, and they’ve got a really good wine selection too. The service is always friendly and it’s reasonably priced.

Devonport’s Portofino restaurant has always been a favorite. With a beautiful interior– one of the best I’ve seen in Auckland– and a great bar area, this is only the tip of the iceberg. The food is wonderful. One of the best dishes I’ve ever had is their deep fried camembert cheese with berry sauce– exquisite! I’d go back for that alone, but to make the long drive to Devonport worth it you have to buckle down for the full Italian experience– don’t worry though, its worth it. Like any italian restaurant, Portofino provides good portions, flavoursome food and thankfully, some very fresh and well-cooked vegetables to balance out your plate of pasta. For a delicious, year-round meal a little ways out of the city, Portofino is a great place for a pre-town dinner with friends or an intimate spot to take that special someone.
