Baracca is a fantastic, family-run Italian restaurant hidden around the back of the Barbican area of London. It’s one of those places that you really need to know exists as you’d probably not happen upon it by chance. The food is authentic, traditional Italian food, freshly cooked on the premises. This is far more than just a standard pizza/pasta place — in fact, you’d be doing the place a disservice were you to just go for the standards(although the carbonara is to die for!). Saltimbocca and whatever the catch of the day is are heartily recommended. Desserts can vary although if you ask for advice then you won’t go far wrong. The family owners(a Swiss/Italian partnership) are very friendly and really work to build up a base of regulars who add to the character of the place. This is an ideal spot for a pre or post theatre meal or for a business lunch in relaxed surroundings. On a warm day there is a little area to the front of the restaurant where you can dine al fresco. You’ll not be here for the views(onto a pedestrian shopping precinct) but the food more than makes up for this. If you want a place in the City for a party(of the sit down and eat kind) then Baracca offers great value for money and can accommodate parties either upstairs or down. Get yourself known and complimentary liquers will flow! Recommended.
