Fast food & meat are not appealing to me, and this restaurant does nothing to cater to the needs of vegetarians; it in fact denigrates them. I would never recommend this establishment.

I’m always a bit reluctant when it comes to franchise spots that aren’t named Nando’s, but my friend took me here for my birthday earlier this year and I was pleasantly surprised. Nicely designed and cool atmosphere, and I enjoyed everything I ate. I think I had The Mighty: a double 6oz cheeseburger with Cheddar, garlic mayo(yum), bacon, relish and dill pickle. No complaints, every bite was savored! Good fries as well, and the wine list is perfectly priced for this casual chain(most bottles sell for under £20). So! Congrats GBK… youve made it on my list for London Chain Restaurants That Don’t Suck.

Always on the list of places we have to eat at while in London. Not your standard chain restaurant burgers. Great selection of sides, beer, and wine. I’ve been to several locations, and the staff is always friendly, and the food tasty. My favorite is the Blue Cheese Burger with a side of Onion Rings.

Ah, I love GBK, and I don’t even eat meat. The choices of veggie burgers available here are decent, I recommend splashing out on the Californian, although the falafel and ‘classic’ are both really good too. The thing that makes this place 4*s for me is the milkshakes. Huge portions, I’d say get one to share, they come in big metal glasses and are SO thick, they also rotate the menu so seasonal options are available(like nutella ones at Christmas!) The staff here are friendly and competent, you pay at the counter so you’re not waiting around for the bill at the end of the meal, and the service is pretty quick!

If you’re walking this area, you can become a little overwhelmed by the amount and variety of food. The Gourmet Kitchen is extremely inviting, the staff is friendly, and the beers are gooood. The interior is surprisingly big, however you will be fairly packed in if you come in during rush hour, which is not the worst thing in the world. The burger was cook perfectly, arrived at my table quickly, and like another reviewer said, the french fries are killer.

I hadn’t eaten gbk for a while before going there last night. It was great. We didn’t have to wait long for a table in busy soho. The service was very good and quick. My favourite thing will always be them skinny fries! A good spot for a quick burger in town

Great good. Great service. Chilled vibe, felt very relaxed and infused. Lovely evening meal to enjoy over a chit chat with a friend. (Shame they don’t have wifi though.)

Another day, another GBK. I’m fast becoming their best customer. Armed with my GBK app, I fear not hunger because no matter where I may venture in London GBK is just around the corner… generally speaking. GBK’s name is a bit aspirational. It’s not gourmet, it’s not as atmospheric as say… Byron and it’s not as good as Patty & Bun… and they don’t let you choose how you want your patty cooked. It’s still really just a fast food joint with half table service but the beef burgers here are made with grass fed British beef, the shakes are massive, the fries delicious(and choices numerous), you get free refills on soft drinks, there are vegetarian options, great salads and even a secret vegan option. Yes the prices are extravagant for burgers and fries, even the milkshakes come with price tags to match their serving size but it’s London, you should be used to prices like these by now. This particular branch in Soho is tucked away off Soho Square on Frith Street. Like all GBK’s you can opt to use their takeaway service but do remember that the shakes become about 35% smaller but remain the same price. If you have the time, take a seat inside, there’s no pressure to be a big spender and tip. I will be honest and say that although I appreciate a bit of blue steak and the odd brioche burger, I’m by no means a burger aficionado and have never ordered a beef burger from GBK that wasn’t their classic. It’s not because their burgers don’t look good, they’re stacked and look delicious but their secret menu vegan burger, aptly named the ‘Dippy Hippy’(£7.45) is so insanely original that I hardly ever entertain the notion of ordering anything else. Add to it some skinny fries, a side of slaw and a bottomless elderflower fizz and that’s lunch done(and dinner too because you probably won’t need to eat until tomorrow.) Shakes are big and cost over £4 so if you’re with someone else, think about sharing. Likewise a regular side of skinny fries is large enough to share if two people are ordering individual burgers. Ketchup is free but posh mayo costs. There’s a good lunch menu that starts at £6.95. Essentially you pick a burger and the side is free. If you don’t fork out for a drink and just drink water, it will cost you about £7 for a burger & side depending on which burger you choose. The staff here are lovely, I especially love being here when Jonathan is on shift. Oh dear GOD I’ve become one of those people who are on first name terms with the staff at their favourite burger joint… Do yourself a favour and get the app for loyalty rewards. It’s very much worth it. If you’re a student let them know and they’ll make sure your GBK account automatically entitles you to 30% off food Sunday — Thursday. The offer lasts until the end of August 2014. N.B. Dippy Hippy is a grilled aubergine, pineapple burger topped with spicy peanut sauce, alfalfa sprouts and a slice of tomato and it is everything that’s right with the world.

For London this is a good burger joint, a good value… I always enjoy eating here when I’m in town… good burgers, variety of toppings and sauces, service has always been great… good beer and the fries are good too. For a good value I recommend GBK.

I went to the Chiswick Park Location and the problem was about the service. wish I could comment on the food(never got it). This was my second time going to a GBK. Anyway, I placed an order over the phone, went in, showed my NUS Card and asked for a student card. It came time to pay and I was told, «Sorry but you can’t use your student card this time.» WHAT??? «That is just our policy.» REALLY? Well that is the most inane and absurd thing I have ever heard regarding student discounts. If that is the case, WHYISITNOTWRITTENANYWHERE??? The card itself had no issues with stating all other disclaimers, this one seems pretty significant yet it is absent. If there was a GBK up the road, I could more than well use it that SAMEDAY. There is no system that validates and activates the card before/upon use, so if this is the policy, I would suggest they put it in black and white. I wasted 50 minutes of my 1hr lunch break!!! RIDICULOUS. I had to join another queue and wait on food elsewhere. I walked like 20 minutes to get to GBK. Why wouldn’t she just let up? I only ordered TWOITEMS. Stinginess at its finest. I promptly told them NOTHANKS, keep the food and I walked out. I went to the Kensington location a month ago as my first experience and the burgers themselves were good. I am still debating whether or not to return. Get it together and improve the transparency of your policies !! College students have enough expenses as it is. Don’t advertise anything you will not honor.

Gourmet? I don’t think so. Big, tasty burgers on the cheap? Yes indeedy! I’m no burger snob so I don’t mind admitting that GBK is a guilty pleasure of mine. They often do voucher deals which means a nice cheap dinner. No, they won’t be winning any Michelin stars but come on, it’s the kind of dinner you wolf down in a messy ketchup and meat-juice mess and chase with an oreo milkshake, you don’t savour it while sipping fine wine! I really love the chips and blue cheese dip which has huge chunks of blue cheese in. Yum! My favourite burger is the grilled chicken with camembert and cranberry. I have to mark them down at this particular branch for two reasons. Firstly the guy serving, who I’m pretty sure was a manager or supervisor, was pretty abrupt and rude when serving my friend and I. Also, my friend asked what ‘malt’ meant as we’d been debating it(sorry, excuse our ignorance) and what the £1 extra charge was to ‘add malt’ to the milkshakes. He didn’t know so asked one of the waitresses who seemed just as confused and then said it meant they’d add Horlicks to it. Erm… firstly, why the hell don’t they know what it is when they’re adding an extra charge, and secondly, I thought malt meant to make it thicker? Can someone who knows please tell me because it’s still bugging me! Overall if you’re looking for a quick tasty burger then give it a go — just don’t expect it to be ‘gourmet’ and don’t pay any extra charges unless your servers know what they’re charging you for!

There are many places offering burgers in town and you will find yourself inexplicably eating one living here. Kiwi burger Beef, beetroot, egg, pineapple, aged cheddar, salad, mayo and relish. £8.95 When I find myself at GBK, I always find myself ordering the kiwi burger. The beetroot, egg and pineapple always draws me in and blinds me to anything else. It’s a decently good burger and definitely tastes better than say going to the Golden Arches. At least I get beetroot, egg and pineapple. You also get to contribute 25p to charity and help save the kiwi in Whakatane.

The most heartbreaking thing about GBK is how good they USED to be. When there were 3 of them(maybe 4, I can’t quite remember. it was the mid-noughties) and they cared about all the food that went out of their kitchen. GBK was a revelation. The first line in a defence against the«perfect» American cheeseburger. They had bizarre toppings. Sauces. The meat was of the highest quality. Every patty cooked to perfection. And the fries were crisp on the outside chewy on the inside. Now, the patties are hard, the buns are hard, they skimp on the sauces, the veggies are average, the fries are cold and undercooked. I could go on, but it’s too depressing. It’s the culinary equivalent of going into an Ikea and turning on one of those shiny new TVs they’ve got on display. You get your hopes up every time but the TV’s made of styrofoam. Okay, that’s a terrible analogy. But not as terrible as what Gourmet Burger Kitchen has become. For shame.

While Gourmet Burger Kitchen cannot compare to the hamburgers in the US(especially Ray’s Hell Burgers right outside of Washington DC), it is a great place for London. The actual hamburger meat isn’t too special, but what’s good is the different types of burgers and the french fries/chips with the cute tomato container with ketchup in it! I liked the Mexican, Avocado Bacon, and of course normal Cheese burgers. For the Mexican burger, I asked them to remove the sour cream and instead use cheddar cheese. It was great!

Burgers are tasty and big. Friendly staff. Quick service. For those not familiar, you order your food and pay at the till. Your food is then served at the table. Bit pricey for a burger joint but got a 2 for 1 burger deal which makes it a no brainer.

A good joint to get a burger on a night out, but I would recommend to get a discount whether with their multiple vouchers or 50% off the food bill with Tastelondon. Without a discount, it is a very expensive burger indeed. Some might argue that it is a good burger and therefore it is worth it, but if you have chips and a drink you can easily end up paying almost £15 per person. For that price you can get a good menu in a restaurant. Now, that aside, this branch is ok to get something quick before going to the theatre or the cinema or when in the area. However, it usually is very busy, so you will need to make sure that you go with plenty of time because you will most likely be queuing for a while. There are too many tables for such a small place, and so they are all too close and it is difficult to move around some of them. So it is good with a discount for a quick bite if you are in the area.

Ive visited GBK twice… both times food was nice, I liked their blue cheese hamburger and the garlic mayonnaise(mmmm)… also the milkshakes are really tasty, but pricey(4GBP). The restaurant itself has a pleasant vibe, kiwi atmosphere… the only thing I didnt like its the fact that you have to order and pay, Mcdonalds style… if you want to order something else, all the way to the counter and repeat the process. They are constantly coming up with offers, 2×1 and recently they have joined the TasteLondon card, taking 50% off your food bill. Good place, good burger, but only good price only if you get a deal!

My first burger since moving to London, and it was ok. I asked for my burger medium rare, and the woman at the counter said they normally don’t do that, but could upon request. I requested, and ended up with a medium burger anyway. The burger was big and juicy but chewy, probably as a result of being medium instead of medium rare. It was a habanero burger, which comes soaked in a spicy sauce with fresh mozzarella, lettuce and tomatoes. It was a good spicy that creeps up on you after a few bites. Really good bun, too. Fries were nothing special. Onion rings were over-fried.

I miss American food, and today I was transported back to Texas where«everything(and everyone) is bigger». Ordered the chorizo, which is stuffed with spicy sausage, sweet potato, and other yummy things. Everyone seemed to be drinking a milkshake so I will have to try one next time! Their fries are pretty good, fat and soft, although I would avoid the garlic mayo dipping sauce if you are on a date or plan to be around people for the rest of the night – it’s really, really strong. Of course I’ve had better burgers and better fries back home, but it was still really good. They offer some offbeat burgers with unusual ingredients and plenty of add-ons. The atmosphere was fun too — busy and vibrant. Most importantly, I left feeling like I was on the verge of a heart attack… which is exactly what a good burger should do!
