Nudo Sushi Box

I love this place! It has become a firm favourite for takeout lunch whilst at work. When they opened the branch in spinningfields there was an incoming of sushi and rice dishes that smelt too good to pass off!
After seeing numerous colleagues tuck into the scrumptious curry I couldn’t resist! For a modest 5.25 you can pick up a chicken and vegetable rice box of their shelf — the staff warm it up for you and add the all important curry to make katsu curry — voila!
The additional of plenty of veg (including beans, baby sweetcorn, green beans etc) and lightly breaded chicken with the lashings of curry sauce it is a gut buster! The huge amount of sticky rice is unreal making it my favourite Friday lunch! The sushi also looks good but I haven’t managed to get beyond my curry yet…

After a positive experience recently at itsu, I thought it was time to give Nudo a go — with the two sitting on the same estate and offering similar options, I was intrigued to see who will end up ‘on top.’ I’d had a long morning in Liverpool and was looking for something warming, comforting and above all delicious.
It was dead when we arrived as it was around 3.30pm so there were no issues with service or jostling with other people to see what was on the shelves. Many of the rice dishes seemed very similar to those at itsu and the décor had the same modern feeling, though not quite so bright.
I decided on a large pot of chicken and noodles, which was warmed up at the till. However, the server simply took the pot, added the broth — and then walked away to continue filling out his stock list. It was only when prompted that he explained that it was still heating. His laid back attitude couldn’t have been further from the service at itsu and I felt like I was in the way of whatever else he was doing.
Due to the time out of the office already that day, I ate at my desk, and only got about ¹⁄₃ of the way through before calling it quits. The broth was nice enough, the right side of salty, and there were plenty of noodles to see me through. However, the chicken was bland and spongy in texture, to the point where I couldn’t eat any more.
A real disappointment at the £8 mark for broth and a can of diet coke. Perhaps service is more on the ball during peak times and their sushi might be their real starring dish, but after this experience I doubt I’ll be back.

As with the other branch of Nudo, it’s getting four stars from me. It ticks all the boxes when you want fresh, cheap, quick. Also it’s all relatively healthy, compared to other fast food options.
As Laura F said, a similar feed at Yo Sushi would see you back considerably more. Price wise I’d say it’s quite similar to Wasabi but much more convenient for food on the go.
I got a salmon sushi set and a miso soup which came to around £7. The soup was really nice and comforting. Oddly the tofu in it tasted very sweet, which I actually really liked but wasn’t expecting. The sushi tasted fresh and delicious, and came with soy sauce, wasabi, and some edamame. My only disappointment was that it didn’t come with pickled ginger and I couldn’t see if any was available to buy separately.
This spot in Spinningfields is great for people watching. I’m not in the area very often but if you work nearby I can highly recommend it here.

I was very impressed with Nudo Sushi Box.
I met Emily B. here before the most recent Unilocal event and found such a great amount of different sushi boxes to choose from.
Eyes being bigger than my belly, as per usual, I opted for a 12 piece California roll and sashimi box with salmon and tuna.
It was very good — and very reasonably priced! If I were to eat the equivalent at Yo Sushi! it would set me back at least £20.

This is one of the new additions to Spinningfields — there is however another one located on Oxford Street, so this isn’t new in all respects.
This branch is smaller than the other, however every lunch time recently there has been a huge queue so it’s clear that they’re definitely having success in their first few weeks.
All food is freshly prepared and boxed up so when you walk in there is one wall that is a giant refrigerator housing plenty of different meal selections including salad, various sizes and selections of sushi and also noodle soup. As well as food there’s a range of fresh fruit drinks, water and the usual soft drinks. Items range in price depending on their size, the cheapest is just over £2 and the highest is just less than £6. There’s certainly something for everyone, there’s vegetarian options, spicy and none spicy options, small items, and full meals for those who are super hungry.
I had one of the larger meals with tuna and salmon (see the pictures ive uploaded). The quality and freshness were definitely something to shout about, I couldn’t fault any of the food. There’s around five or six small tables so there is an options to eat in. Please note you do have to pay a small fee for utensils, chops sticks were 8p per pair.
Service was rather slow however this is likey to be due to the newness of the place, I’m guessing once the staff get used to the tills and the prices things will move along much more smoothly.
I’d recommend this place to any sushi lover in the city centre. An easy way to grab a fresh selection of sushi and in the perfect location for a bite to eat whilst watching the world pass by.
