Value Movers

I used Value Movers on 4÷1÷15 to move from Sunnyside to Greenpoint. The guys showed up 3 hours late, and leading up to that someone kept calling me saying that they were right around the corner, almost there. Yeah, right. They were supposed to get there around 2 or 3 pm and showed up at 6, and I’d purposely asked them to come early in the afternoon because a friend of mine had surprised me with impossible-​to-​get Bjork tickets as a present. But since the movers were so late, I wouldn’t be able to make it to the show since I didn’t have time to change my schedule around and absolutely needed to move that day. When I realized that I would miss the show, I started crying, and the main moving guy said to me, «Oh, look, we have a baby here, and she’s crying.» I’m sure Value Movers outsources their work to different people that don’t always permanently work with them, so maybe these guys — they were 3 eastern European guys — don’t even work with them anymore, but the fact is that they were grade A as*holes. Perhaps I just had an unfortunate experience, but it was my experience nonetheless, and, unfortunately, that reflects on your company. =(I mean, maybe I’ll use you guys in the future if I call a bunch of people and no one else can make it at the time that I need, but considering what happened with me, I’ll just have to keep in mind that your guys may very well show up several hours late and potentially act like a-​holes. They just did a great job, swiftly, nothing broken, nothing scratched, remarkable.

My old place was a 4^th floor walk-​up and not easy to go up and down the stairs. These guys packed everything in a timely manner and were very helpful. I had an issue getting my bed apart and the guy helped me out in no time. Would recommend using own boxes and wrapping paper because I can see how things would have added up if I wouldn’t have done that.

They were recommended by my broker from Bond NY, very nice and polite crew .At the beginning of the move the foreman laid down the paperwork and explained how they were going to proceed and estimate how long the job might last. They took care of my furniture in a manner that I didn’t experience before (moved three times before using a different company). Special care was taken and extra protection added to my collection of oriental porcelain, to be honest that was all I care about, but they did a great job with everything else as well.
I will definitely call them up in a future if I will be moving again.

My experience with Value Movers started off so well — unfortunately, the positives pretty much came to a stop when we met the movers. While everyone was friendly to start, the experience was incredibly inefficient. The movers seemed interested in making the job take as long as possible in order to maximize the amount they could charge. We ended up asking them to leave at the end of the time we’d already agreed to pay them for and finishing the job ourselves.
First, the positives — the movers arrived a few minutes before their scheduled arrival time, a pleasant surprise. They then worked with the building to determine where we needed to park our moving van and gave us tips on how not to get towed. (We were moving from out of town so we rented our own truck. We used Value Movers for move-​in/​truck unloading only.) They were very friendly. In addition, when we asked them to do things differently they responded promptly.
The real problem was how SLOW the move-​in process was. This was partially due to the building — the elevators are extremely slow and there is not a designated moving elevator. However, Value Movers could have done a much better job working with the elevators. Its their job to move people in and out, they should know how to do it best.
We asked them to start doing small things to speed up the process –leaving items in the hall so that I could carry them to the apartment myself. The movers responded to everything we asked them to do, but we shouldn’t have to ask them to do basic things to help the move go faster. They ended up waiting a lot for the elevator which could have been avoided if they’d divided up the work better. Unfortunately, not being professional movers and not being able to see what they were doing in real-​time, we were unable to tell them to speed up this part of the process. However, once Value Movers left, we were able to find a system that allowed us to spend very little time waiting for the elevators — something Value Movers should have known before they showed up.
At the end of the day, they threw «we did everything you asked» back in our face. We shouldn’t have to tell you to do your job in an expedient manner. I came down once and one of the movers was standing at the elevators, doing nothing.
Another note — if you look at the reviews, nearly all of the positive reviews written in the last 2 – 3 years are from people with 0 or 1 other reviews. Most of the other reviews since ~2012 are as negative as this one.

STAY AWAY! I highly suggest you go to another moving company and save your money! I cannot recommend this enough. The absolute WORST moving experience I have ever encountered. Overall, we WASTED our money for very HORRIBLE service and VERY unprofessional movers. There were three movers, 1 manager named Marco and two younger guys. The two young guys were incredibly nice and professional but this manager, Marco, was the leader and made the whole move STRESSFUL and HORRENDOUS. He shows up to our apartment acting like a complete asshole and told us immediately that we were giving him an attitude and that he could leave right now and not do the job. ARE YOU KIDDING? We spent all of our time and then he THREATENS to just leave and abandon us. WHAT KIND OF PROFESSIONALISM IS THIS?
To begin, the movers called us 20 minutes past our scheduled time of noon to tell us they could not come until 3:00pm. THREE hours after our scheduled appointment. Marco said their truck broke down but they were so unprofessional and rude, I think this was a lie. Then they showed up at 3:30pm. (LATE AGAIN) and decided to take their time moving everything. They originally said the job would be within 2 hours but it took THREE HOURS because they were incredibly slow. This was done on purpose so that the manager, Marco, could raise the price on the bill. Not to mention while they were moving our stuff, they kept tossing around our furniture like it was garbage!!! Our couch was tossed around several times until my boyfriend and I had to ask them to stop.
Eventually we got all of our stuff moved in after more than 3 hours of horrible service and lack of professionalism. I was so WORRIED about our belongings because this manager, Marco, clearly DID NOT CARE about us at all and how their service was.
Lastly, we had everything moved in and we asked the movers to check the truck several times to make sure nothing was left behind. They assured us everything was out of the truck. GUESS AGAIN. They drove off with our big box of important supplies/​necessities. When we called and asked them to return it, they claimed we were probably confused and it was in the apartment. THEN THEY WOULDN’T RETURN IT TO US for another few days! Instead of making it a priority, they kept telling us «Oh tomorrow, oh tomorrow we will bring it.» Tomorrow came days later!
I WOULD NOT recommend these scumbags to anyone. Such horrible service and I would encourage everyone to STAY AWAY and spend your money somewhere else!

These guys were great! They were very transparent with all costs and charges, and worked very quickly. My move from the UES to Crown Heights was done in 3 hours. Alex and his team were fantastic, and I would definitely recommend them.

These guys did a great job! They moved my boyfriend and me out of 2 separate apartments, into 1 new apartment, in under 4 hours. They were really fast and efficient. I would definitely use them again.

I don’t normally do non-​restaurant reviews, but…
Highly transparent with their costs (you get an email explaining everything), EXTREMELY accomodating (when my old building management company, who sucks in every way, demanded a letter of insurance with a 30 minute deadline, Jose took care of it IMMEDIATELY). They work fast and thorough to minimize the hourly rate, and they pack everything REAL well (unfortunately, an errant piece of grit caused a scratch in my table, but given how I watched them pack the table with blankets, tape it up, form cardboard around it, and tape it again, I can hardly blame them).
Enormously pleasant people, doing a thorough and speedy job (move within Queens took 2 hours flat) at a cost that was MUCH more acceptable than their competitors. I’d recommend them to anyone moving in the area.

I was very pleased with Value Movers.
They did everything for me, packed up my furniture and belongings in Manhattan, stored them for me and when I was ready, delivered them to my new home in rural Virginia.
Dejan and Mark were very accommodating, even helped me place my furniture in my new home just so.
It was a pleasure to work with them.

I am updating this review. Not only did I get the call yesterday from Dejan that one of his movers had gone to my old building and picked up the forgotten items to deliver them to my new building (he did this spontaneously), he also called me to discuss some of the other things I was not happy with, and again without me asking, he offered a refund on the issues under discussion. I feel he went out of his way to respond to his customer and make a situation right, and for this I am giving his business 5 stars.

I still recommend anyone who is moving to buy the separate mover’s insurance or check with your home owner’s or renter’s insurance if they provide coverage, and to really make sure you do understand all the terms of your moving contract.

They were great! There were no hidden costs. Jose and Dejan who I dealt with from the office were super helpful and responded immediately to my emails. The guys who did the moving showed up on time and didn’t take a break until after the majority of the heavy furniture and most of the boxes were in the truck. They showed up at 9 sharp got me moved out by noon and all moved into my new place by 3. I will definitely recommend them. They made it stress free for me.

Value movers! Yeah right — I called to have a 30 inch refrigerator moved 10 blocks from an elevator building to a second floor walk up – $ 495 sears charges $ 81.99 — what a joke!

I found Value Movers through a referral who had personally used them and loved them. They helped me move my one bedroom condo from Berkeley, CA to New York City. Dejan patiently explained to me the difference between shippers and movers, explained the quote and explained what the process would be from coast to coast. He was always very nice on the phone. Yes he has accented english, but he spoke slowly and clearly so I didn’t have a problem understanding him.
I suppose if there was a bad, it would be that they were the most expensive option and only accept cash/​money orders/​cashiers checks. They do have a paypal option if you need to use your credit card but there’s an additional fee for that. In fact I made the mistake of not realizing the unpacking was happening during a holiday weekend and didn’t have access to a bank. But here again Dejan was extremely accomodating and allowed me to pay the day after the movers dropped off my stuff so I could avoid paying the additional charge for paypal.
I was told tip was my choice and is typically between 10% — 15% (not the 18−25% that another review said). The movers made sure to say it wasn’t mandatory and was up to me how much I felt comfortable paying. 10% — 15% on my amount was definitely a lot of money, but for all the work they did, loading the truck with all my heavy furniture, driving it across country (in huge rainstorms even) and unpacking everything up 4 flights of stairs in 85 degree heat, I felt they were worth every penny.
The movers themselves were courteous, easy-​going, had some cool stories of their time on the road. And they dropped everything off with no fuss. They even stayed a little longer to help put our heavier boxes with books up in a loft we had in our apartment.
Moving cross country is a huge pain in the butt, but everybody at Value Movers made this process so easy for me. I have no complaints at all and I would use them again for any future move I may have!

I ‘ve just used Value Movers a couple of days ago for a move.
They did a great job! They showed up one hour early, wrapped and loaded all my stuff.
They did 5 flights of stair with no evaluator then drove from there to the new apartment. The boys where able to finish the whole move in 3 hours! Saving me time and money! Nothing was damaged or banged up!

Used them for a short move from Astoria to Long Island City. Just a few tips for ppl looking into them
The Bad:
–the movers said tip had to be 18−25% for the job. When I scheduled with the company they said tip was not mandatory and there was no set amount. This is clearly not the case with by experience or the previous the recent reviews. If that’s the standard amount why not just state that from the beginning?
— they drop off tape and boxes. Do not use them BC they are ridiculously over priced. We got bins and didn’t have to use their boxes
— they use their own tape to wrap up your furniture and each small roll is about $ 5. It basically took them one full roll just for our night stand. Let’s just say we spent a lot on tape
The good
— they’re fast. It took three guys to pack up my one bedroom apartment
— booking was easy
— they sent all necessary insurance paper to my new building without us having to ask

Dejan and the movers were extremely thoughtful and cordial to me with regard to my move and worked promptly to respond to any questions or comments I had regarding the engagement.
Their pricing structure was clearly communicated. The move went really smoothly and quickly. They were courteous and punctual.
I have now used them twice, and I would recommend them to anyone.

I am extremely picky when it comes to hiring any type of services. Let’s just say that when it came to moving all my belongings/​furniture and other valuables, I spent countless hours trying to find the best and most cost-​effective company.
Value Movers did not disappoint, I am very grateful for this stress-​free experience. They took excellent care in packing, unpacking and transporting everything.
Nothing was damaged in the process; it’s like they took a magic wand and teleported everything!
Great and affordable services provided and very friendly staff!

i have to update this and say…
A water jug full of change was left on the moving truck… took me about a month to notice. I called (not to accuse anyone of stealing) but just hoping they had it. Dejan know what I was talking about, but unfortunately it was gone. Immediately asked how much I thought was in the jug. I said give or take $ 50. A week later I had a check for $ 50 in my mail.
These are good people, and a great business.
