Unpakt

We were making a move from San Francisco to Chicago. We were not optimistic at all about a long distance move. Every other Unilocal review was a horror story or people paid a ridiculous amount + another ridiculous amount they were not expecting. Perhaps for this reason, we did a LOT of research. I received a variety of vague quotes from a bunch of sales people at other moving companies, was told about all these other crazy fees, insurance to ensure your stuff shows up in once piece (isn’t that the one thing that needs to happen?), window of time your stuff can show up was up to 21 days (+30 built into that) — the whole thing left us stressed and ready to sell all of our ish.
That’s when we found unpakt. We were able to plug in all of our furniture, piece by piece to see what each one would cost to move. Then we could remove them if we decided it wasn’t worth it (i.e. someone bought our TV before the move so we were able to get rid of that). We were detailed because we did not want any surprises when we got to Chicago. We loved that we could update our packing list upto 24 hours before our move. We also LOVED that we dealt directly with unpakt and they figured out the rest — this gave us complete PEACE OF MIND since they were the ones guaranteeing our move.
So we get our quote, which was by far the best out of all the companies that we contacted. I was skeptical still — assuming there would be a hidden fee later. The movers showed up in SF. Were crazy fast — moved out the boxes, wrapped up big furniture (SUPER protected!!). Then we left for Chicago and waited for our stuff to arrive. I was convinced it would not arrive for a month — even though they said only 14 days (max). Our stuff arrived within 8 days. We were kept updated by the mover driving the truck (we asked because we needed to arrange the elevator) he called us several times to keep us posted on his exact arrival time. Then they showed up. We did need to pay for the elevator fee, but we expected that because it was very clearly stated in our contract. We were stoked that we didn’t need to pay a shuttle fee (the 18 wheeler was able to drive right into Chi to our surprise). I am recommending these guys to everyone. Do your homework, read the fine print but ultimately decide on Unpakt because they alleviate the stress that moving can cause!

The original movers we had totally screwed up the dates and had us in for a day after we had to move. We found this service and they got us a moving company that was able to service our request with little over 24 hours notice. The movers that did the job were great, punctual, friendly and inexpensive.

Found my moving company Dumbo Moving off of this site. I liked how easy it was to update my move inventory and the pricing breakdown was very helpful.
Would use this site again to book any other moving needs.

This was a great experience.
I had alot of uncertainty as to date, needs (2^nd drop off, temporary storage, etc) and with the unpakt site I was able to see just how much these services cost, and thru different providers. Also able to compare the cost alongside user-​reviews/​ratings of each moving company.
My movers were solid, professional, and swift! I never would have found the moving company I ended up choosing (Dumbo Moving) otherwise, and they were good. In contrast to my last move — wherein I was charge more than double the original quote, these guys held by the quote.
I will definitely be going back to unpakt next time I need to move.

Unpakt is a lifesaver. Because of them I was able to move last minute without paying a premium. Also discovered an awesome moving company I plan on working with in the future.
Only drawback is it can be hard to foresee how many boxes you’ll actually have.

This was an amazing website/​app that I have already started recommending to our friends. We are at the age where you start making the upgrade from renting a Uhaul and promising friends pizza in exchange for their manual labor, to paying for movers. It was so wonderful, and assuring, to see the quick quotes from several movers all at once — almost $ 800 less than when we did our own research online. We received quotes from moving companies we might not otherwise have found.
Thank you, for your service, Unpakt! You took the already stressful event of moving and made us feel a lot more secure about our decision, and saved us almost $ 1k! Awesome!

I love Unilocal because of finds like Unpakt. I needed a mover and I had no idea where to start, so as usual, I look in Unilocal.I find Unpakt, which I never heard of, but so glad to find. I cannot believe how awesome this site is! You put in approximately what you need to move and they compare a bunch of movers for you with their rates — how awesome is that? It is like a kayak or expedia for movers. The site is very easy to use and the FAQ pretty much answers all your questions. There is no reason not to use this site unless you are set on a mover. I booked Maxi Moving through Unpakt and Maxi Moving was awesome, too.

I can’t believe that this kind of service doesn’t exist for everything. Unpakt took all the stress out of finding movers.
I’ve moved half a dozen times in NYC before, but I’ve gotten to the point in my life where I can no longer bribe my friends with pizza to help me move, so I had to turn to the professionals for help. But the thought of trying to get quotes from shady movers was giving me an ulcer.
Unpakt did all the work for me. I itemized all my stuff, then found the best movers with the lowest prices and best reviews (they have reviews on Unpakt, as well as links to Unilocal).
The best part is that even after you book the move, you can continue to update the itemized list of stuff up to the day of the move. (I made my final changes on my phone lying in bed the night before the move. It’s that easy.)
You pay with a credit card on Unpakt, and the movers are not allowed to charge you extra. So no money changes hands the day of the move (unless you tip, which is obviously discretionary).
If you’re trying to move in NYC, you MUST use this service — especially if you’re from out of town. It’s the only way to ensure you get a decent deal.

Angela was very helpful when the mover we booked through them «All Purpose Movers out of Lowell, MA» was a no-​show on move day. Angela answered her cell phone on a Saturday and helped us get another moved FIVE STARS MOVERS out the same day. It was a pity we wasted over 8 hours on a Saturday and a Sunday trying to get our move done.
Do not rely on their site for feedback. Check Unilocal and disable the Unilocal FILTER. Also check the BBB.
They could explain the insurance portion a bit better. We spent $ 350 on extra insurance that we did not need.
We used them a second time for a move and the customer service was HORRIBLE and we could have done better on our own! We were overcharged and they didn’t care. Do not recommend using them anymore.

Unpakt was awesome — super easy to use and pay. Everything went smoothly. Definitely recommend.

I have moved many times in New York, and the experience has always been a nightmare. Between dealing with building management, shady movers, nowhere to park, botched U-​Haul reservations… I was getting cold sweats thinking about my upcoming move.
I decided to try Unpakt based on the positive Unilocal reviews and it was the best thing I’ve ever done. Their site is incredibly easy to use and their business model is super transparent; you know exactly what you’re paying for and how the process works. Need a certificate of insurance? No problem! On top of that, I had to change my move date at the last minute because of issues with my landlord and they were so accommodating. They respond to emails within minutes and just generally very nice to deal with.

I had a great experience with Unpakt and was very happy overall with my moving experience. This was a move from New Jersey to Manhattan. Unpakt is like the Kayak of moving — search one and done! I was able to upload everything I needed to move to their website (including custom items) and they provided me with quotes for several movers. I was able to update/​edit my moving list up to two days before the move — I think I even sneaked in a few items 36 hours in advance. I ended up choosing Dumbo Movers and they were very communicative. I was emailed in advance with confirmation. On the day, the movers ran late due to traffic and I was contacted multiple times to advise me of their progress. When they arrived, they were courteous, focused and professional. Furniture was wrapped securely and everything arrived at my new location in great condition.
Very happy — it made the whole moving experience infinitely less painful! Now if Unpakt could only help me unpack!!!

Moving from NJ to NY was super easy with unpackt. The ability to estimate the moving cost online was a lifesaver. Once we realized that it wasn’t going to be prohibitively expensive we chose our movers and they took care of everything.
I wouldn’t want to move again without them.

My moving experience with Unpakt was as good as it could possibly be. With 48 hours notice, I was able to compare prices and secure movers to help me with my Brooklyn relocation. The documents were easy to finalize online, and Angela from their customer support team was PHENOMENAL in helping me address every question and moving issue I had, even when I needed to change things at the absolute last minute.
The movers were in constant communication, and both Unpakt and the movers were Johnny-​on-​the-​spot with their confirmations. I always knew what was happening and when it was going down. The guys were on time, and their manifest was identical to what I had registered with Unpakt. I signed the final paperwork when the move was complete, tipped the gentlemen, and was done with the entire process without a drop of sweat spilled.
I’m sold on Unpakt. I’ll be using them for every move I make (and every breath I take), and they will be my top recommendation for any friends who are moving in the future.

I’ve moved cross country 3 times now (first Ithaca to Arizona, then Arizona to NYC, and now NYC to San Francisco!) so hiring moving companies isn’t a new thing to me.
Unpakt made my moving experience so much bearable considering I was moving cross country. Instead of calling up multiple vendors (that I had to google and have no idea which ones are reputable) and repeating the amount of stuff I had and the details of where I was moving to and from, I was able to just enter exactly the number of boxes, furniture items, and other misc stuff that I had, and instantly get quotes from moving companies that have already been pre-​screened by unpakt. Best thing was that each company had reviews for them, which helped in my decision making.
I was also able to go in and out of the site to modify the # of items I had, and see the change in pricing in real-​time. It actually helped me reduce some of the items I ended up deciding to move to save up on costs, so this is super super helpful as opposed to the traditional way of moving where your # of items are locked in with the quote.
Unpakt’s service was not only extremely reliable, but it gave me to comfort in knowing that there’s someone who’d be there to assist me if anything went wrong with the moving company. For example, there was a bit of a hiccup when my stuff was delivered earlier than I expected, right when I was still abroad in Italy! I panicked and called up Unpakt; they were really responsive in helping me sort out issues with my building management and reaching out to the truck driver who was going to deliver my stuff to coordinate delivery date and time. I was quite blown away since they went out of their way to make sure their customers were happy and felt that their belongings were safely delivered.
The only thing I’d recommend is that you check the level of insurance that you have with the moving company. The default insurance doesn’t cover much at all (almost useless) and if you want more protection, you will have to pay up. But this will be the same for any and all moving companies you go with.
Overall, I’d highly recommend using unpakt to help you move. I can’t imagine not using them for a future move!
