Description

Specialties

At the Closet, we have rules. Rule #1: We have fun. (remember dress up time as a little girl, try it again.) Rule #2: We never use the word fat. We love ourselves. Rule #3: We focus on what we like about ourselves. We accept ourselves. Rule #4: We stay calm and keep our perspective. Remember, it is just a dress. Finding the life partner is the hard part. Rule #5: We trust our guts. If they say no, we say no. If they sing yes, we say YES.

Finding the right dress is primarily about relaxing, having fun, and trusting yourself. Having the right experience finding your dress is primarily about the right environment and surrounding yourself with support and love. For many of our clients, this is a communal experience, and we love having your people in the closet, soaking up all that love. For others, it is a private experience, and we love being your guide, helping you navigate a rich and beautiful time in your life. Whatever your process may be, we encourage you to be gentle with yourself, and have FUN.

So, let’s play dress up, and dream about your own personal take on an age old ritual. Doesn’t that just sound like a beautiful way to spend an hour and half? We sure think so.

History

Established in 2001.

I opened the store on my 30th birthday, in 2001. One of the best, most spontaneous decisions of my life. A few months earlier, I had a dream, that I owned a store, on this very block. I awoke and announced that I would open a store in this very location. But, you see, there was nothing available in this building at the time, and I had exactly zero retail (or bridal) experience. I was going through a phase, coming up with a different life plan pretty much every day. But, on this morning, I was certain. The dream seemed real. I could taste it. Fast forward a couple of hours, and Robyn, the owner of the bridal salon that was in this space before the Closet, reached out to me, a client from a few years earlier when I was married myself. She called to ask me if I would like to buy her store. Same day. 2 hours later. I had told no one but my husband.

I received the message and said yes. I said yes to Robyn. I said yes to the universe. Of course I did. So happy I did.
