Airco Mechanical

Have a fairly new (18 months) HVAC system with electric heat pump designed and installed by AIRTRON, which is somehow related to AIRCO. Scheduling a maintenance visit by phone was easy. Technician Alan called before arriving today and did all required work. Pleasant demeanor, professional. Only giving 4 stars until i have second of two visits in year as part of «essential service» plan.

Got a $ 7500 full system installed about 5 years ago. Worked fine until now, but now the A/​C does not cool the house. It has a 10 year warranty, but here’s the problem if you do business with Airco: You’d think the 10 year warranty would cover you, but you’d be wrong. They charge $ 89 just to come look at the unit. And full price for labor (whatever that may be) to repair it. So the 10 year warranty doesn’t guarantee the system will function for 10 years. It only guarantees that you will pay full price for them to diagnose and fix it (as you would anyway) and the parts are covered. Buyer beware.

They did a great job and they also had a coupon available on Unilocal which we used towards the final bill. I would definitely use them again!

We are happy we called Airco again. Our upstairs home heating unit went out recently. We had used Airco for our business last summer so decided to use their services again.
Chris from Airco was very professional and did an amazing job considering they had to take out our old unit that had lots of terrible mildew on it. These guys are hard workers and honest.
We would use Airco again without hesitation!

I had a new unit installed by Airco 3 years ago. Today my unit quit cooling. I called Airco 9am and they said they would have someone out after 1. By 3 no one was there and house was boiling. I called and they said I was next in que. Should b there by 5. At 6 still no one. Stuck in the hot house since 1. I called again. I was told they would be out by 7. At 7:45 I got a call from the technician saying they were on their way and be there in 15 mins.
An hour later at 8:45 they arrived.
Very nice men who had had a very long day I am sure.
They found that I had a capacitor out which was under warranty. However, instead of charging the full $ 275 for the part they were going to give me a great discount of only charging me $ 167 for the part and $ 89 labor.
I asked why I was being charged since it was under warranty and I was told that they have to send the part back to the mfg. and wait for reimbursement and their time was worth $ 89!!!
THEY installed my unit at almost $ 6000 only 3 years ago! It is under warranty!!! Do you see a problem with this?
Needless to say I paid as I needed it repaired as it is August and I has sat here for 8 hours waiting for them.
However, I am not done. I will be checking in to my options for reimbursement.
The technicians were very nice and obviously overworked. I don’t blame them.
I think the company has sketchy business practices charging for warranties part.
The next day the mgr. Wes called me and worked with me on the charges. I will be reimbursed $ 89 for the service charge. I appreciate that. They did show up the same day as called which is also a plus. I appreciate that they are responsive to problems.

Had Airco come out as part of the Austin Energy AC check-​up program. Up to that point, our AC unit had been running perfectly fine. Within 48-​hours our AC unit stopped working. Airco came out, charged a service fee and replaced the capacitor. Within 30 days, our AC unit stopped working again. Airco came out to inspect, came up with an expensive service suggestion which we turned down. After posting a negative review, a very nice service manager, Wes, contacted me, we discussed the situation. Bottom-​line, the service fee and difficulties were an unusual set of circumstances for how Airco normally operates. He offered to refund the fee. Process snags do happen, and we greatly appreciate Wes reaching out to us and making good on the situation rather than ignoring it. Our experience with Wes was 5-​star, our experience as a whole was 3-​star. They do have good BBB ratings, and might be worth considering for future service.

These folks have always been awesome. I purchased my air conditioning and heating units from them. They do not pressure me into a particular product, offered my a 5% discount to pay by check or cash, great financing when I can’t pay by check or cash, offer service plans. They are always able to come out asap to fix a problem. I have referred friends to them, who have also been very happy.

These guys replaced my air conditioning unit last summer with a new ‘high efficiency unit’ that was supposed to be less expensive to operate. $ 5000 later and 2 summers of not being able to keep my house cool with $ 400+ electric bills and now during the coldest week of the year so far – I learn the a/​c unit has bee kicking on with the heating element – effectively having my gas furnace work against it’s own cooling coils 24×7. Wonder what my electrical bill will be this month?
These guys have tried really hard to do the right thing but they just come across as completely incompetent. There’s not enough space here to lay out all the mistakes that were made in installing and configuring my a/​c. Ugh.

Wes Stearns from Airco is the best vendor I’ve ever worked with at my home… period. He sold us the right products, got us the best prices, and followed through on the delivery. There was potential for the project to blow up, completely not related to Airco’s workmanship. Wes stepped up, took control and turned something that could’ve been bad into a very successful project.
Airco replaced our upper and lower heating and air systems, plus our 2^nd floor water heater. There is no reason to not do business with Airco!

Our AC broke yesterday (Mid July, record breaking heat) and these folks came right out and diagnosed the problem. Turns out we burned out our fan and the motor needed replacing.
Well, they had the part in stock and because the system was under warranty and they were an authorized Lennox service center, the parts were covered. There was a $ 389 labor charge which seemed a little steep, but working in the attic for 2 hours seemed to justify it– plus, are you really going to shop around if you’re AC is out?
