Yesterday my a/​c was serviced by Aire Serv through AHS. Historically my luck with AHS service providers has been pretty bad. But this time… wow…this a/​c guy was fantastic. He was
conscientious, thorough, and personable. I believe he may have solved an issue that other AHS a/​c people over the years worked on multiple times. This Aire Serv technician took the time to do the proper detective work. If you are assigned Aire Serv of Austin through AHS, ask for the gentleman from Liberty Hill. He seems to be the real deal. I don’t know about their
other technicians.
Hopefully, once the hot summer weather returns, I won’t have to service this unit again…
at least not for this particular issue.

Some pretty tough reviews so I thought I would give my experiences with them. They have done spring and fall service on my two AC/​furnace units 7 times over the past few years. Today Roberto came out, on time, and did a very thorough and complete job. He’s a nice guy! (I’m knocking on wood as I write this)
I’ve been happy with the techs, the service, and the office for scheduling the appointments. There is no doubt AHS has a lousy habit of picking questionable contractors, but my experience with Aire Serv has been very good. I hope it continues that way!

I had two UV lights installed in my ac/​heating system. The techs did a nice job and fixed a couple of other problems they found during the cleaning. Would recommend.

I was a long time customer of Aire Serve, 2007 – 2015. They (specifically Terry) were professional, reasonably priced, and kept our A/​C and heating units well maintained in two different houses. So why two stars? Let me tell you.
Our A/​C stopped cooling our house efficiently in August. I called Aire Serv to do a check, and was given a three hour window. Half an hour after they should have been here, I called them to ask where the technician was, and was told he was still at his previous service call and that my house was next. Fine, but I said that it would have been nice to get a call letting me know he’d be late. An hour or so later, he showed up, did what seemed like a thorough inspection, added a pound of freon, and the house was cool again.
Two days later, the house was again 80 degrees. I called Aire Serve again, and scheduled another appointment for the next day. Chase came out (on time!) and discovered two problems: an extremely dirty filter that meant that low airflow was causing the lines to freeze, and an issue with a valve that indicated that the evaporator coil was failing. Even though I had been assured that if they found a problem that should have been discovered during the previous check (as I assume the dirty filter should have been) that I would not have to pay, they charged me the $ 75 fee again. I decided not to complain, as that money would be applied towards the new filter.
I scheduled a 2 hour window to replace the filter. Once again, it was past that window of time, so I called. This was the first appointment of the day, so I knew he had not been working on another house. The woman said that they had given the tech the wrong part on the truck, so he had to come back to office to get it. However, he was there now and was leaving and would be at my house within half an hour. An hour later, I called, and she said he had just left, and would be another 20+ minutes. At this point, I cancelled, having things I needed to do. I rescheduled for the following week, and she said that there should be no reason that he would be delayed, as it was the first appointment of the morning, they had the part at the office, and *giggle* she’d «kick him out of the office» rather than letting him «goof around». Yes, she really said that, with the giggle.
Fast forward to today. Once again, I waited the entire 2 hour window before calling to inquire about my filter replacement. The woman said that the filter had been back ordered so the guy had to go pick it up, and that he was on his way. So apparently they didn’t have the part at the office as promised the week before? She didn’t know, but she was rather put out that I once again cancelled, as he was «on his way,» although she couldn’t tell me how far away he was. Now I’m going to have to try to get the money back that they shouldn’t have charged me in the first place. I’m not holding my breath.
The second star is only because of Terry. If you do go with this company, ask for him, and only him.

After reading all these negative reviews, I was pleasantly surprised to find that they (or the guy they sent out) did exactly what was asked. He showed up on time, quickly diagnosed what appears to have been the problem — low freon — gassed it up, and left. He was friendly and professional, and I bought the twice-​a-​year maintenance program from them. Hopefully, future interactions will go as well. Nothing exceptional; just a good, routine service call, as they should be.

I’ve used this company for many years, and for the most part, they have done a pretty decent job. Unfortunately, they have seriously dropped the ball lately. My A/​C went out a few weeks ago on a Thursday eve. I called them that eve, and was told by the operator that a tech would call me back within the hour. No one ever called me back. The next day, Friday, I called in to schedule an appointment. They told me the earliest they could come out would be Monday, 3 days later. In 100 degree Texas heat, that is unacceptable. More recently, I called and scheduled an appointment to have someone come out and give me a bid on a new unit. Well, no one showed up, and no one called. I called just this morning to find out why, and was informed that there was nothing in their system showing this appointment. Needless to say, I will be using a different company from now on.

I see this company is getting pummeled so I thought I would contribute a positive experience. We are renters, and our A/​C went out. Because our landlords have a home warranty, they were directed to Aire Serv of Austin. At first, I wasn’t happy because they couldn’t get anybody out for several days, and then I saw all the negative reviews on Unilocal.I expected the worst, but when our appointment day finally arrived, the technician was right on time, very polite and courteous and even slipped on «booties» over his shoes before entering the house. It had been raining all night and the yard was wet and muddy. I pretty much expected them to call and cancel but they got the job done and got our A/​C working again. Nice job, Aire Serv. Thank you.
P. S. The only reason for a 4 star and not a 5 star was because of how long it took us to get an appointment. Otherwise, it would have been 5 star all the way.

Surprising number of bad reviews about this company. We have used them for perhaps 10 years without a problem. We have their warranty service that means we pay an annual fee and they will come whenever we need them. Can’t imagine what else you need. The service is competent and thorough.

Do everything you can to stay away from this joke of a company. Asked the technician to do a thorough check of the system, and he clearly didn’t according to the technician from the next company that had to come out and repair $ 2000 worth of issues.
When asked why he wasn’t thorough … «Oh, he retired the next month. Sorry there is nothing we can do.»
Customer service is amazingly poor, interrupting and argumentative.
The only way companies like this stay in business is through their relationships with Home Warranty companies. Crooks!

Call and the «technician» shows up yesterday as our heater is just blowing air, no heat. (28 last night).
Tech: I didn’t bring a ladder…
ME: Well we told the person who booked the appt the units are on the 2^nd story roof.
Tech: Let me see what I can do without a ladder. (Proceeds to monkey with the thermostat) then does «something» to whatever equipment is in the roof of our first floor).
Tech: There you go.
ME: What did you do to make it work.
Tech: FM
ME: I don’t know what FM is?
Tech: F. ing Magic
ME: OK, wow. (And proceeded to pay him).
Today, no heat still and blowing air ²⁴⁄₇.
Call at 7;30 a.m. to get somebody else out. No return call.
12:30: Told receptionist the entire story from yesterday including the FM comment.
Says the manager will call me back asap.
1 hour later and still not heard anything.
AMAZING. (not in a good way).

Can I give 0 stars?
The other company (Dragonfly) just left. Assuming my motor was burnt out, they took the whole thing apart and found a LARGE piece of cardboard stuck in the motor. The cardboard was from the top of a box that coolant comes in – apparently, the coolant the Aire Serv technician used to refill our unit when he busted the hose.
We called Aire Serv to ask for 1) our $ 300+ back and/​or 2) them to pay the $ 200 Dragonfly charged for labor to get the cardboard out.
The Aire Serv dispatcher just, I kid you not, told us …
«We’ll have a manager call you tomorrow between 10 — 12.»
OUT OF CONTROL.

We will not use this company again! We were way overcharged to have a contactor replaced plus was not informed of the price beforehand. And were charged for 2 hours labor, which I thought you charged for the job. Will not refer anyone to you!!! Found this info from my Brother who sold his heat/​air business and retired.

I have used Aire Serv at my home in Round Rock for years, always with great experience.
Several times my AC quit working at the worst time. Today it happened with four pets in the house. I called the after hours number again and Dave, the owner came back out and got us up and running in no time and what I think is a very fair price. Aire Serv techs do not work on commission so they will not try to sell you more than you need. If you are looking for excellent service at a good price, definitely give Aire Serv a call.

Can’t get an answer from them as to whether they’ll actually come out. It’s Saturday p. m, and I first called Thursday. Repeated phone calls. Nada. Charles E.
An added note: It’s late Saturday evening. They still haven’t responded, 48 hours later. Just the regular runaround when you know they don’t care. This is a loathsome company. Beware! They don’t care.

I didn’t a choose this company, my home warranty company chose them for me. Not a good experience and not thorough with diagnostic.
Called because I hadn’t heard on a schedule to get a technician to come out to check my ac as it wasn’t cooling my house. I was told the only appointment I could have was between 11&1 later in the week. The tech arrived a little late, no big deal. I explained that this issue happens frequently where the coolant leaks out anytime I don’t use my ac for a period of time. The tech went to the outside unit, fiddled around for a bit. He comes back in saying my coolant is low and to expect to pay 800 $ for the coolant. I tell him I know there is a leak and that I’d like to have a check done to find the leak. He tells me my warrant doesn’t cover that, it will only cover a bandaid fix. I asked what would it cost if I paid out of pocket for a leak check, he said a couple hundred but if we find a leak you don’t pay that. He says he must call warranty company to get approval to do any maintenance. He comes back and says that the warranty company only will approve the use of a product called stop leak and that is not something that he keeps on his truck and would have to order which meant waiting for repairs. I asked why he would have to order something like that why couldn’t he go pick it up from the store. I was told that he has other customers waiting in that he needed to move on to his next event.
I call the dispatch office and ask if there’s anything they can do because I desperately needed air conditioning for the weekend. I was told that was the best that they could do and I would have to wait until Monday at the earliest for them to bring the stop leak out. At this point he had not done anything inside other than open the closet door for the unit inside my house. Never opened unit cover or used a flash light (poorly lit closet.)
I’m told by the home warranty company that the first company has decided they no longer want to help me because I was rude to their technician. I was firm in my understanding that he hadn’t diagnosed the issue correctly and he refused to continue with the diagnostic because my warranty wouldn’t cover it.
Unhappy with their diagnostic and poor service I call my warranty company who immediately calls another service company, who comes out within the half hour.
The technician from the second company actually opens the inside part of my air-​conditioning unit and actually unscrews the bolts and removes the cover. The first thing the gentleman notices that the entire system is rusted and covered in lubrication grease. This damage to the coils showed why my coolant was leaking out frequently @ 400 $-800 $ each time.
The second technician (from a different company) identified that my quills were bad and that the entire unit inside my house would most likely have to be replaced. This is not even looked at by the previous technician either time that they come to visit my house to look ac.
I’m spending $ 200 less with the second company and getting it fixed permanently.
Not getting a bandaid that would have left me with no ac in the summer.

Great service on my heat pump. Been having problems with unit working in the heating mode. Works great in ac mode but when it is supposed to be heating it was not very warm. The technician came out and found it was a bad thermostat setting and was able to repair the unit very quickly and a very reasonable price. Thanks Aire Serv.

I do not want to relive the truly awful experience that my husband and I had with Aireserv. Like the other reviewers, we had to deal with management that talked down to us when we had a problem and that refused to be any help whatsoever. I could not recommend this company to anyone. In short, we had a repair person come to our house and complete a repair on our HVAC unit. The repair seemed successful, but several pieces of trash and tools were left in various places in my attic, house, and lawn. This wasn’t too terribly distressing, but the next day we noticed another problem with our HVAC unit and called back. The dispatcher told us that they could send somebody out as a free service since this other problem should have been checked as part of the repair. When the same service person came out and attempted to fix the new problem (after returning some of his tools to him), we were very surprised when he asked for payment following the service. He became very upset with us and the «new girl» at the office for giving quotes over the phone. We talked to management who told us it wasn’t their policy to give quotes over the phone… the problem is that they DID give us information about the price. They acted as if it was our responsibility to know this. Terrible customer service. We went through a complaint process in which they did not report accurate facts about the services or what actually transpired in the event. We learned that the customer is not always right, especially when dealing with a company that will completely ignore the facts to create their own version of events.
The real kicker… the second repair didn’t even work! The next morning, same problem all over again. Decided to go with a different company that was able to fix it.

The first technician I called when my AC broke was from Aire Serv. Here’s what he did:
1.) He charged me $ 180 to string a 50 foot wire from the unit itself on the roof, through the doorway of my apartment, and into the closet. He told me this was a temporary solution, and it was – it took less than a day for my AC to stop working again.
2.) In doing this, he misidentified the problem. It was a coincidence that stringing that wire even caused the AC to work correctly for a day; it actually turned out that an excess of condensation on one of the floors below me had caused a switch to flip, which shut off cooling for all the rooms above it. He didn’t seem to understand, according to the next tech, that AC units in multi-​floor apartments are commonly set up this way. At the end of his visit, he also quoted me that it would be $ 290 for more technicians to come out and replace the standard, 10-​foot wire that connects the unit on my roof to my furnace inside the closet, so that I would be able to remove the 50-​ft wire hanging through my doorway. I now know that there wasn’t even anything wrong with the original wire.
3.) His solution of stringing the wire through the doorway caused an excess of current (from the door frame rubbing against the metal wire) to blow a fuse in my unit, which the next technician had to replace.
4.) He had cut some of the wires in my unit to check their voltage, but then when he was finished, he reconnected some of them incorrectly. The 2^nd technician showed me that the colors didn’t even match, and preceded to fix the wiring.
5.) **The absolute worst thing he did imo** was cutting the wires that connected my own overflow Safe-​T Switch – which would turn off the cooling system if it were to create too much condensation, in order to prevent flooding and electric shorting – and forgetting to replace them at the end of his job. This could’ve caused serious future damage to my system and the rest of my apartment.
So after I had Aire Serv fix my AC only to have it go out again the next day, I called the technician who normally does repairs for my apartment complex (with Polar Air). He corrected for all of Aire Serv’s mistakes (replacing to fuse, reconnecting the wires correctly), he figured out what the problem was, he did it in about half the time, and he charged me $ 85.
My advice is to wait it out and hire one of the smaller companies, even though Aire Serv is listed as «Open 24 hours.» Remember that the other guys usually have emergency repair services where they will come out after hours. I promise it’s worth it to wait until the morning, especially if you’d have to hire someone else anyway because Aire Serv’s solution lasted for less than a day!
