Jim Gray’s Heating and Cooling

What an amazing guy! I have used Jim for AC and Venting work since 2008. I don’t recall exactly where I found him when I needed venting redone in my house but man, am I glad I did. He is honest, fun, a great teacher, and he explains what he is doing and WHY. How freaking awesome is that?
My most recent experience was on August 11 which became August 12. If I could give ten stars I would. I came home to the AC blowing hot air. Immediately went outside to find the fan locked up and humming. I’ve learned enough from Jim to know that the power needed to be pulled immediately so I did that. I then sent him a text — hoping I could get on his schedule the next day since it was 9:30 at night. To my surprise he called me at 10:15 pm (yes, PM) and offered to come out to troubleshoot the unit. He was at my home at 11:00 pm (yes, PM) and had the issue diagnosed in about ten minutes — it was in need of a new motor. Well, he had one in his truck and an hour plus later (see, it is now technically August 12), it was installed and the unit was back up and running smooth.
I strongly encourage people to call him and give him a try. You will not meet a nicer, more honest man. If I had called anyone else I would have been put on a list for the next day, most likely would have been charged some astronomical trip charge/​emergency visit fee and sadly, would have most probably been told that I needed an entire new unit. Not Jim — he will diagnose down to the finest wire and if there is no hope, he will honestly tell you that.
Great guy — I will not use anyone else… EVER.

When you fear you are getting fleeced by other installers, get a quote from Jim Gray. His prices make sense. His labor quotes are fair. He works fast.

I rarely leave reviews for anything and am generally a cynical person. I read through Jims reviews yesterday while we were frantically trying to find someone to fix our non-​cooling A/​c unit. I really worried that the glowing reviews may have been inflated. I was wrong, this guy rocks!
I was home and my husband still at work when the issues with the A/​C unit began. I did general troubleshooting (cycling power/​checking condenser/​running fan only for a while) and thought low coolant was the issue. My husband gave Jim a call pretty late and they talked for a while. Jim lives all the way across town but offered to come out that night if needed. He also offered several suggestions to try over the phone (have you ever heard of a contractor taking the time to do that!!!). Most of these I tried and they were all very acurate and good ideas. It was refreshing to get good advice and insite from someone in the profession instead of just a sales pitch. We decided to wait it out the heat for the night so the temperature wasn’t awful in the evening. I guess I hoped it would magically fix itself over night.
Unfortunately the cooling issues continued the next afternoon and we called Jim again. He gave us a time window and actually arrived a little early. Promptness is rare in the industry so this was awesome.
I was home alone and am normally a little nervous about contractors by myself. Jim put me at ease immediately. He was funny, respectful, and professional. He asked about the symptoms of the unit and agreed it was likely a coolant issue. He let me watch the coolant testing and took the time to explain how the system works.
The coolant was indeed low and needed to be topped off. Jim explained how the fill worked and the rates for different coolant types. His rate was extremely fair and affordable, he also didn’t try to sell me anything I didn’t need. He gave me good tips on how to keep the system running well. I have never met a contractor this honest and helpful. Jim is truly awesome. He will be our A/​c guy for any future issues and for an install if we ever need it.
Our home is nice and cold at the moment, that is such an overlooked luxury but I am exceedingly grateful for its return!

Jim came to the rescue at 8 a.m. on a 30 degree Saturday morning when our heater was just blowing cold air. He was on time, and he quickly identified and fixed the problem.
He’s a local guy, a small business owner, who does things right and prides himself on customer service and honesty. Very refreshing!

It’s December 23 and my family is coming over for dinner, but the Heat is not working, Ugh! Called Jim and he was happy to come take a look, even this close to Christmas. About 30 min after arrival he had fixed the problem. He saved my Christmas dinner! Thanks Jim. I’ll be using you for all my AC and Heating issues moving forward.

Jim Gray has been rescuing us from all sorts of flaky a/​c issues for many years now. He even installed out new system after the last one gave up. He always shows up to bail us out, he always is courteous and friendly, and best of all, he’ always fixes our problems and charges us a very fair price.
Jim is out first choice for A/​C issues, we have recommended him a lot, and cannot say enough what a knowledgeable, nice, fair and plain old GREAT a/​c technician he is!

Just used Jim again a couple of weeks ago but just now getting around to updating my experience with him. Jim is still one of the best in the business. AC is still running fine since the last time he repaired it but I needed to move the unit for a building project I have going on. Jim came out and quickly moved it and did a great job. Of course, he was very reasonable and explained the process thoroughly. Seriously, you CANNOT go wrong with Jim. He’s my AC guy and I will use him and recommend him to all my friends.

This review is so long overdue. My husband and I have been using Jim since we moved into our home 6+ years ago. Back then we found his number on Craig’s list and called him to come and take a look at our AC which had stopped working during our Soprano’s Finale party. We would have paid any price to keep our guest comfortable, but Jim gave us a very reasonable price and his service was quick and friendly to boot! We’ve called him AND ONLY HIM anytime we need the unit looked at. He also replaced the entire unit at my sister-in-law’s home and she was very happy with him as well. We will be replacing our unit next summer and Jim is the only guy we’ll even consider to do the job.

I was in dire straits. My AC unit stopped working, the weather was in the mid 90“s. I called my regular AC guy but he was booked solid thru the following week .To make a long story short… I had 3 companies come out & look at the unit. Each one said my compressor was bad, one said lighting must have struck it, that the fan was going backwards, I needed a couple of other parts. Basically, a new system since it ‘s 17 years old. Was advised to get a window unit. It seemed like it was all about the $$$$.
I decided to use Unilocal & started researching companies & the reviews they received. I was looking for one company I couldn’t find BUT, Jim Grays heating & cooling reviews showed up on the page. So, I took this as a sign, & called Jim told him how many companies that I had out what they told me was wrong with the unit & the various prices I was given to replace the unit were. Jim said since I had so many people were out here that his curiosity was up & could he come out & inspect the unit & wouldn’t charge me for the service call. That he bet he could get it working.

Now, I was skeptical that he couldn’t get it to work, I mean I already had 3 different tech’s from 3 different companies here… So, Jim came out the same day on a Saturday after his last appointment. He arrived at 4:00 PM as promised it’s 98 degrees. Jim inspected the AC unit & than told me the part was installed incorrectly.
He explained to me what was wrong, He went to his truck got his tools, & within 15 minutes the AC unit was running. My compressor is good, the fan is not running backwards & I have been enjoying COLD air in my home ever since. Thank You Jim Gray!
Jim is honest. A true professional, He answered all my questions & gave me information about AC systems that I never knew. Jim didn’t over inflate his quote for a new AC/​Heating system.
