You can spend a LOT of money in Bar Harbor for s place to stay but you don’t have to. We really liked this place, plus it looks like it’s been renovated because the owner is selling it. Bed was comfortable and it has a nice flat screen TV and a free refrigerator and microwave. A good bargain and only 3 miles from downtown. Tips: we ate at the Thirsty Whale. They have delicious sustainable food and a full bar. We also took in a movie at the Criterion Theater which was built in 1932.

What a nice little place. The room was absolutely spotless. The staff was wonderful. We were on our bikes and they said it was going to rain the next day and brought us towels to wipe down the bikes, we didn’t even have to ask! I would certainly stay here again and suggest it to others.

Bartons Motel is conveniently located near one of the entrances to Acadia National Park. I couldn’t have asked for a better spot on the island. I stayed 4 nights in one of the cottages and the price was certainly right! The cottage was small but cute. It had one bedroom with a Queen bed, a small kitchenette, and a bathroom. The cottage may have looked old, but it was definitely clean and a nice place to rest my head. You are supplied with 2 bars of soap, but bring your own shampoo. The shower stall, at least in my cottage, didn’t have a ledge so it was kind of annoying to put all my toiletries on the floor of the shower. The bed wasn’t the comfiest of beds, but I was so beat from hiking, I didn’t really notice. There isn’t much furniture, a single dresser held up the TV in the bedroom. The coffee maker could use a good cleaning, after my first cup I didn’t really want to use it since it added a strange flavor to my coffee. All in all, I would stay at Bartons Motel again. Like a previous Unilocaler said, the owner is very friendly. It’s a great price for the location and you will probably be out in Acadia National Park all day hiking so you won’t be spending too much time in the cottage anyway.

Location was amazing. Their rates were great, fact that they accept pets and the owner is very friendly & accommodating. I stayed two nights in cottage 2; two bedroom with small kitchenette. One bedroom had a full size bed, one small nightstand, smaller dresser with small TV. Other bedroom had two twin beds, nightstand that held microwave, and smaller table for dining. Kitchenette was very small 15 inches of counter spacer, two electric burners, toaster and coffee maker with small college-dorm style fridge. We didn’t cook or use any of the utensils in this cottage. The bathroom was what you would expect, was fine until we noticed the mushroom growing from floor of cottage-was really comical! Also the toilet tended to keep running until you opened the lid and fiddled with the ball. Both items were mentioned to the owner. Few things I would have liked — wifi wasn’t available in the cottages, only extended to the motel proper across the street. Also, the cottage could have used a real scrub. Curtains in the cottage didn’t close all the way, so I kept feeling like someone was staring at me. No latch on the outside screen door, couldn’t leave it open for air flow for fear of dogs getting loose. However, for the price $ 96 per night with 3 dogs and two adults. You can’t beat in the area especially in regards to its proximity to Bar Harbor(10 min drive) and Acadia(4 minute drive)

On our way to Acadia Park we saw this motel on the side of the road. Clerk was friendly and let us preview the room. Needed an actual key to open the door(remember those days?) Room and bathroom were clean. The only indication of current times was the flat screen TV. Décor circa 1970. Bed comfy. Would definitely return.

This place is a kitschy motel with little cottages across the street. It ain’t fancy, but our cottage was clean and cute and conveniently located, and with a small kitchen and a grill, it made a great, affordable home base for exploring Acadia and Bar Harbor.
