Celebration Cakes By Janice Strout

Janice made us the most beautiful small wedding cake complete with sugar mango lilies. The cake itself was carrot with a cream cheese frosting and was absolutely delicious. She is incredibly talented and very kind. Her cakes are gorgeous and reasonable.

Janice did the cake for our August 12^th, 2012 wedding at the Bar Harbor Inn. Included with the entrée pricing at the BHI is a simple white wedding cake with your choice of design. You can pay more for different flavors of cake and more elaborate designs. We upgraded to a 4-​tier cake, with 2 layers of white cake with buttercream icing (the standard cake) and 2 layers of «chocolate decadent cake with chocolate ganache filling.» I also wanted roses and calla lillies made out of sugar paste along the side.

I was AMAZED at how well she created what I wanted. They look practically identical!!! (Also note that the differences, e.g. our cake not being wrapped in fondant, were requested by us, so it could have been even more identical had we wanted it that way). I was blown away when I saw the cake on our wedding day and many people told me it was the most beautiful wedding cake they had seen. Because we went through the Bar Harbor Inn, we did not ever work directly with Janice, just with Melissa and Nicole (the BHI event planning staff). I have to admit that made me a little nervous, but all three of them did an amazing job at communicating with us and with each other, because we got exactly what we wanted at a very reasonable price.
I will say that while the cake tasted good, the chocolate cake with chocolate ganache filling did not taste quite as amazing as I expected it to from the description (I’m a total chocoholic). Wedding cake is not known for being particularly tasty, and while I think this tasted really good for wedding cake it was not mind-​blowingly delicious. But it was still good, and as I said, I could not have imagined the cake looking any better.
I can’t recommend Janice and her cakes enough if you need a beautiful cake for a wedding or party on MDI. Judging from her Facebook page (
) she is not only incredibly skilled at making beautiful cakes, she’s also very creative at coming up with original and unique designs. If you’re getting married at the Bar Harbor Inn I encourage you to «dream big» with your cake, because it seems that she can make just about any vision happen. For what its worth, I think the cakes on her own Facebook page show her talent better than the «sample cakes» the BHI will show you, so I recommend checking out her page as well for inspiration.
