I’m a Barrington local — my husband and I had a long day today and were looking for a quick, reasonably priced place to grab a bite to eat tonight. We decided to stay in town and hit up Frank Jones. I ordered a turkey club and my husband ordered a burger. After waiting for a bit, our waiter informed us that he had somehow lost our order ticket in the mix and was so sorry, but would need us to repeat it. He promised our food would be out ASAP. I’ve got to admit, at this point my husband and I looked at each other skeptically, but shrugged it off and went back to what we were talking about. The owner/manager then came and talked to us about what happened, saying they were mortified that this happened and our meals were on the house. My husband and I were pretty impressed and thanked her for the way the situation was dealt with. On top of it all, our food did come out only like 5 minutes later — our meal was comped and we were given a $ 10 gift card on top of it all. We were so impressed by how they showed us they really wanted to make the situation right. Whereas I didn’t have a strong opinion either way before tonight — I’m now happy to support a local business that really showed how much they care about taking care of their customers. I took off a star because several times we went, we had tried to get the french onion soup, and they had run out. We will be back to try it soon though! Thanks again for treating us so well.

Still very pleased with the restaurant. We were just in this week and our food was excellent. I had a fried fish sandwich and it was excellent. Service was excellent.

There is just nothing great about this place. Its a tiny restaurant with no atmosphere. The food is «meh», take it or leave it. Its mostly fried stuff. The drinks are okay, but after a couple beers you feel like you’re no longer welcome. Kind of like drinking at my grandmother’s house. Not fun! There are better places to go in Barrington. Dante’s is across the street and is a far better choice.

Super tiny place which is not a bad thing I guess. Asked if the food was local but the bartender who stated«I don’t know, I just tend the bar, my father owns the place», she then shrugged her shoulders said I don’t know. I just felt pushed out toward closing time 40 from closure. Not a fan, the drinks were pretty good. Thought being the owners daughter wasn’t a good enough excuse to not to know where the food is coming from, My reasoning for this, is to support local food businesses.

I must say that FJP is an ok place for a quick lunch but I definetly would not recommend for dinner. It was ok, a little greasy on the fried foods, but ok. I dont think we will be back there are better dining options in the area. I did like the fried clams though they were a little doughy and the burger was good though we ordered medium and it was red in the center.

The Frank Jones Ale is a 10. Had the fish sandwich with their own tarter sauce it was great. I will be going back super friendly people.

Second visit here. First was ok. Thought I’d give it a second chance as the first impression wasn’t overly great or horrible. It was about 3pm and the place was nearly empty which is normal for this time of day. We were greeted promptly. I had my sleeping son in a stroller. The waitress seemed slightly confused as to what to do with us for a moment, before telling us she was going to go clean off a table. I’m thinking to myself, with the amount of business going on in there, why was it necessary to clean a table? Should that not have been done immediately after the last person left? I didn’t see anyone leaving the pub upon our arrival or at any time in the 5 minutes before we were seated… The dining room while clean was temperature wise slightly chilly and so was the décor. A bit barren, sterile, not very comforting and not relaxing or enjoyable to be in. I had the buffalo chicken sandwich fried. It tasted good for what it was. Chicken was hot and moist, buffalo sauce was nice, blue cheese dressing tasted good. The bun was a bit stale and crumbly would be my only complaint with my sandwich. My son had the fried haddock sandwich. He is the fried haddock sandwich aficionado. The Portsmouth Brewery sets the standard according to him. He said the haddock didn’t taste fresh, the batter was too thin and he didn’t like the stale bun either. The fries portion on all sandwiches was very small and all our fries were cold when the food arrived. My husband had the pulled pork sandwich which came on a piece of split baguette. He said his sandwich tasted nice, nothing to write home about and his plate was missing pickles. The food came out quickly as one would expect for the business volume. However, our waitress didn’t come back to check on us until we were over halfway finished our meals. I’d say service was mediocre at best. She was very friendly though which can make up for inexperience, IF and I state IF the food, value for dollar and atmosphere are enough to make up for it. All in all, dinner for 3 fountain drinks and 3 sandwiches came to $ 40 with tip. Not anywhere near what I’d consider value for dollar. I understand rising food costs. I work in food service. If you must raise prices, your quality must reflect the increase. This food did not reflect the high prices being charged. Twice was enough for us.

My husband suggested we go here after he went and liked it. We brought our 9 month-old daughter. I got a dinner plate with grilled chicken with bacon and a mustard sauce. It was a little dry and need a touch more sauce, but it was pretty good. I was impressed that the vegetables on the side were good – not overcooked and that usually will happen in the average restaurant when you have a side vegetable dish consisting of carrots, broccoli and zucchini(all with quite different cooking times). The garlic mashed potatoes were really dry and they tasted boxed. My husband got a fish sandwich. The roll was really nice and the fish was pretty good too. They had a real nice Long Trail pumpkin beer and I had coffee(it was average). The staff was really friendly and accommodating and the place was clean. I would return and try a few other things on the menu.

I actually would give this place a 3 ½ star, but since I can’t and I love the buffalo wings I upgraded them to a 4 star. I really like this place, but it has two major flaws. The first flaw is that it is a bit overpriced. The food is pretty good, but it definitely seems like it just cost’s way too much for my family to go out to eat here compared to the other options, especially given it’s other major flaw. The tap water in this place is horrible! They use well water and it has a very, very strong iron taste to it. My family and I generally get water when we go out to eat, and that is the one big turn off here. If it weren’t for the horrible tap water, I would eat here more often, even though their prices are too high. Did I mention that my son & I really love the wings??? They really are good.

My second time here tonight and I’m starting to really dig this place. For what their menu is, I think the food has been spot on… and I don’t know where they get their sandwich rolls but they are really fresh and atypical of what you normally get elsewhere. The staff on both occasions have been wicked friendly and very attentive… even taking the time to happily answer my preschooler’s 20 questions. Service time has been very comparable to any other typical restaurant. They do have a kids menu, and they gave my daughter crayons without asking to color her placemat. I highly recommend the Frank Jones IPA. Oh, and they have an Annabelle’s ice cream walk up window too… so now your Portsmouth friends has one less thing to hold over your head. In fact you can brag to them that you were able to find parking to get it.

This was our first time here and their third or fourth week open for business. I ordered the Buffalo Chicken Sandwich, fried or grilled option, I chose fried. It came with fries and a supposed pickle from Calef’s Country Store. The pickle was missing… as was my husbands. The sandwich was okay, not exactly what I was expecting. It was chicken fingers dunked in hot sauce with bleu cheese on a bun with tomato and lettuce(which was brown on the edges). Eh. I don’t think I’d get it again. My husband ordered the Angus Burger Club with fries, medium well. It came out medium to medium rare. He’s not one to complain, but I mentioned something to the waitress when she came over to ask. By that time he had eaten most of it so there was no point in fixing it. He said it was okay. he’s really not a fan of even somewhat bloody meat. It looks as if sandwiches are served on Chinet paper plates, but we saw other diners having actual dinners on real plates. The cups were paper too and somewhat flimsy for the drinks. So in the end the waitress got the burger taken off the bill, a nice surprise indeed. The atmosphere is nice, a bit noisy though due to the small space the seating is in. They also have a full bar on the opposite side. We’ll most likely try it again in a month or more.
