Bend Pet Express

My review is for Brandy at Bend Pet Express. We were so fortunate to discover Brandy several weeks ago when trying to get our dog’s nails trimmed. Over the years, our bully had become increasingly fearful of nail trims. We could no longer find anyone in Bend who could trim her nails, not even her previous vet. We tried Bend Pet Express as a last effort and Brandy was honestly a lifesaver. Brandy is sweet, gentle, and thoughtful. Between Brandy, another associate, my husband, and myself, we orchestrated a plan (predominately led by Brandy’s initiative) to get my dog’s nails trimmed while distracting her with treat after treat… after treat. It worked! The treats and the 2 people holding our dog helped soothe her anxiety. Brandy took her time and did a thorough, impressive job along the way, checking in with us multiple times to make sure we were happy with the results. She’s smart and has a compassionate heart. My dog is deaf and Brandy really listened and took our instruction seriously regarding how to communicate with my dog. I mean it truly when I say that Brandy is the ONLY person I trust to take care of my dog’s nails. We recently went back in to get my dog’s nails trimmed again and I was touched and amazed that she remembered us, our dog, and even got down on the ground to communicate with our dog through signs. We are a huge fan of Brandy and because of her, we will continue to not only go to Bend Pet Express for nail trims, but also for food and pet supplies. People like Brandy, who genuinely care about the dogs and their owners, make me want to support the business she represents. We sincerely hope her manager sees this review and acknowledges her accordingly… and gives her a million dollar bonus. Thank you so much, Brandy, for being so kind and patient, both with our dogs and their humans.

The customer service is awesome! It seems like a young group but they are so mature. There was a young man who was so sweet and polite. He was tall with facial hair and maybe freckles. I will be back every time I visit Bend. Thank you for caring so much about your customers.

Excellent customer service and reasonable prices. The staff are always very friendly and helpful. They always take the time to answer questions and go out of their way to make sure you are happy.

I went to this store today for the first time thinking it would be way more convenient to get our cat food here rather than driving all the way across town to petsmart. At first glance it seemed really nice! Nice building, clean entry, nice displays. And then we ran into an associate putting away cat food and it all went down hill from there. Our vet (who also happens to be my sister) let us know that our cat needed to be on UTI food in order to keep her from getting sick again. Our vet told us she could write us a prescription for the wet cat food but that Purina Pro Plan has a UTI wet food that works exactly the same at the half the price. So that’s what we give her. When we asked this associate if they carried UTI food she said they did not but that all we really needed was wet food because a UTI problem is just not enough moisture in the cats diet, so UTI food was not necessary. And even if they did carry it we would need a prescription. When we let her know that we don’t need a prescription because Purina has one she literally laughed at us and said «of course they do» in a very condescending way. Working in a pet store doesn’t make you a vet! This associate clearly had no idea what she was talking about and had no right to lecture me on the subject. As annoyed as I was by this associates very stupid behavior, it did give me something to laugh about the rest of the day. To the associate who lectured me today, congratulations on becoming the laughing stock of the vets in the greater Portland area!
We obviously will never be making a purchase from this store.

What a lifesaver this place is! We were traveling with our small dog and wanted to let him burn off energy at a nearby dog park for a bit. Due to the melting snow/​slush, he was a total mess after his fun at the park. We knew we couldn’t go to our host’s home with him dirty, so we found this place and brought him by for a do-​it-​yourself bath! I had never done a do-​it-​yourself bath for him (outside of our home) before, but the employee showed me how to use everything, and gave me all the towels, brushes, and necessary tools, along with a great conditioner. There is also an option for them to bathe the dog for you, if you don’t want to do it yourself for some reason. There were a variety of shampoos to choose from. When we were finished, he was even given a handsome bandana! We picked up some food and treats for him on the way out. Super convenient, and he left squeaky clean and smelling great! All for a reasonable cost.

Really like the friendly staff! Great supplies and my dog really likes getting a bath here. I can wash and dry him myself and know he’s not being manhandled. Will be coming back soon!

This is for the «U-​Wash» pet grooming located in the back of the store. I’m pretty sure it’s a separate entity from Bend Pet Express, but here nor there, it’s where I go to wash the pooch.
They’ve raised their prices some over the years and charge extra for using the blow dryer, but hey… if I can wash my doge who HATES being bathed in a tub that doesn’t kill my back for under $ 20, I’m happy.
And that’s really the deal here. It’s primarily a «you wash» place but I know they offer grooming services, for a fee. So I can’t comment on their drop your pet off, pick ‘em up later service although it appears many people do utilize that option. Seems as if every time we go in, there is a dog being groomed or waiting to be picked up after grooming.
At any rate, we’ve only been «disappointed» one time and that was a very busy day where the hot water ran low. The attendant was very apologetic and gave us a coupon for a free wash at a later date. Hey, I’m good with that. Our dog was certainly good with that!
For those not familiar with a «you wash» pet grooming place, it’s pretty basic. They provide the elevated tub with warm water, soaps, brushes, towels and… for an additional fee… use of the blow dryer. Pay your bill and leave a little more wet than when you walked in but definitely happier about the shed hair left here (and not in your own tub) and no aching back.
We are fans of this place. It’s nearby for us (convenient). It’s reasonably priced. Like I said, if it’s under $ 20, I’m happy. And they do have a rewards punch card…10^th wash free type of thing.
The staff are cordial but not overly friendly, even though I go to great pains to clean up afterward. Washing the sides of the tub down, etc. I’m always smiling but they aren’t. I just chalk it up to some animal lovers who… well…love animals more than people.
When all is said and done, as long as I can come and do the deed with relative ease and get thru a chore much dreaded by both man and beast, this place meets my needs. Yeah, I’m a fan.

The staff is always friendly and super helpful. I’ve gone in many times with questions and concerns and have always found a staff member eager to help out. I love supporting a local business and they only carry high quality foods. They also have a large selection of toys, crates, cushions, really everything you could possibly need for your cat or dog at reasonable prices and locally owned!

Real friendly and helpful staff, and a wide selection of gear, toys, cleaning products, food… everything! Also, prices were affordable and sensible — and most importantly: they’re a local biz.

Their store is very nice, good products, and a large selection. I appreciate help when asked, but I did not appreciate lectures on pet care. No a dog does not NEED a grain free diet. And corn in the diet does not mean they will die early with cancer. I do not need to change anything. I have had plenty of dogs live cancer free lives without these «high quality «diets. Thank you for having the Chuckit that I was looking for. that was nice.

I am all for supporting local businesses, but not at the expense of lightening my wallet by more than double.
And while you certainly *could* spend a mint on your pampered pooch or kitty here, you don’t *have* to.
They carry most of the widely available commercial brands of pet food, litter, and supplies… with the addition of organic and other «earth friendly» brands. Prices are fairly comparable to chain stores. I also found that they carry a wider container sizes than many competitors.
The staff is friendly and helpful. They were able to direct me to some awesome chew treats for our lab that lasted more than a day, and didn’t smell nearly as bad as some of the other treats we had tried. Pig’s ear, anyone?
