Discount Fabrics

I went there for color swatches today and had a really positive experience. One of their employees, who is also a tailor, was very kind and knew his stuff. I would go back in a heartbeat.

I used to frequent the sister store in the city before it moved out of SOMA. I actually prefer the shop on Mission Street over Discount any day.
My area of preference is home décor and I’m not impressed with what I saw on a recent visit. The selection looks old and like some hadn’t been super well cared for. Pricing doesn’t offer any significant value.
Trims for pillows and furnishings aren’t as popular in home décor, but they do have a nice selection. Also I’ve been able to find some interesting piece in the $ 3.98 barrels.
Would probably venture back if I had done time to kill in area, but it definitely won’t be a go to.

Discount Fabrics has one of the largest and unique selections of leathers, linens, furs, fluffy this, and frilly that I’ve ever bared witness to in the area, and to top it off, very fair priced. I highly suggest making this your first stop if your current project involves home décor, upholstery, costume making or… whatever!
My girlfriend loves making costumes. A lot. If you or your significant other does as well, then you should already know places like JoAnnes and Michaels will only get you so far…(that means not that far). When you are ready to make costumes cut from a HIGHER quality and standard, then you should already know Discount Fabrics is your one stop shop.
Even if you’re not exactly sure what you are trying to achieve, simply walking around the store will assuredly spark inspiration to get you going.
When you have everything you need, one of their staff is ALWAYS on standby, happy to help you cut the right lengths of your selections, unlike those other fabric stores that have multiple cutting stations un-​manned and you have to hunt someone down who actually knows how to cut a piece of fabric… i know we’ve experienced that BS at some point or another. *grumbles*
Long story short: GREAT selection, QUALITY materials, FAIR prices, FRIENDLY staff, and CONVENIENTLY located right near the freeway. What else do you want from a business?

I quickly found just what I was looking for. Great price and there is so much more I wanted. I will have to go back soon!

I really love this place. I tried every other place in the east bay, and this one was just the one that drew me back time and time again for the perfect fabric I was looking for. I always got great prices on stuff, and even got a free chunk of leather from a scrap basket once!

Decent fabrics, but not really all that discounted, and the selections aren’t as large as I had anticipated. I’m especially underwhelmed with the costume fabric and printed cotton selections, as there are not that many of them.
Lighting is also kind of dim – it’s kind of like this warehouse, a bit dusty and run-​down too. Sure, the center and the front of the store is bright, but once you get to the sides of the store, with only windows filtering in sunlight from the streets outside, the lighting is kind of dark, and makes it a little hard to see the fabrics, especially when the giant rolls of fabric are just stacked on top of each other.
TIP: If you ask for a sample swatch of a fabric that you’d like to take with you for free, they’ll cut it for you. That’s pretty nice.

I make Special trips just so I can shop there. Their prices are very good on most things. You may very well not find what you are looking for but they are a «Discount» store so No they don’t carry everything & just because they had it last week doesn’t mean they will this week. I have seen people posting to go to Britex, where do you think they get some of their fabrics from & sell at a major discount as compared to Britex. I have never had an unpleasant experience with any of the staff. The only bad thing about Discount Fabrics is the parking.

I don’t get it. Where’s the discount? Where is the customer service? Maybe this store should just be called Fabrics. Save your time and go to Stone Mountain and Daughters or Jo-​Ann.

Decent selection of fabric. Some reasonably priced, and some not. I did find customer service to be «discounted,» too. Perhaps it depends on who is helping you — seems like there was one person who is more knowledgeable than the rest of the store staff when I was there.
I’d go back, with lowered expectation for their customer service. If you need to consult store staff, this may not be the best place.

I walked around in here for about half an hour and had no idea who the employees even were. No one said hi or asked if I needed help, so I bolted.
Looks decent for upholstery fabric, though.

I’m working on an upholstery project, and I knew that I needed additional supplies, but I wasn’t sure exactly what would do the trick. Luckily, I got great advice and assistance at Discount fabrics, and their prices were good too.

This place has a wide variety of fabrics and accessories — it’s just AWESOME. The staff was also very helpful, knowledgeable and kind. I’ll definitely be back again soon!

This place is awesome and exactly as the name indicates. Discount Fabrics and zippers and thread and interfacing and spandex and trim and, well you get the idea.
The staff are helpful and knowledgeable. They never seem to lose their cool.
The space is old and perfectly adequate. If it was swanky the fabrics, wouldn’t be discount!

This place is heaven for people who need fabrics for sewing or crafting. We needed some fabrics for some photo backdrops and since we live nearby, we thought we’d check it out. So many options to choose from! It’s definitely more than meet’s the eye from the outside. Upon entering you are bombarded with long aisles filled with fabrics galore. The prices are not bad… although I don’t consider myself a fabric expert so I don’t know how much fabric is really supposed to cost. But seemed pretty reasonable to me. The staff is friendly, so if you are looking for something in particular, don’t be afraid to ask for help.

Huge and unique selection of fabrics. But, not very organized and the person that was helping me didn’t seem too knowledgeable about the materials.
I’d go back if I ever have any upholstery or home décor needs.

I’m starting my own clothing business and this place has everything I need for my basic apparel at great prices.
The sales ladies I have dealt with have also been really helpful and efficient which is what I want in a fabric store when I’m itching to go home and start sewing.
I love their cotton prints and knits. Definitely check this place out if you are a newbie or oldie seamstress/​fashion designer.

A pretty wide array of materials to choose from for simple projects, as long as you’re not looking for anything too high-​end. Is the fabric really discounted? Hard to tell. But the prices always seem fair to me… not crazy cheap, but not unreasonable either.
I went to search for some Tiffany blue lyrca to line my wedding dress, and found exactly the right material for $ 9 a yard. For basic colors, designs and fabric, they should have you covered. But for more unique, luxury fabrics you’re better off at Britex in SF or «A Verb for Keeping Warm» in Emeryville for organic materials and quirky patterns.
Customer service is almost non-​existent, but if you know what you want the store is easily laid out for browsing and helping yourself.

Today, is my first day there, my friend recommend that store.
My daughter start learning how to sew. But I don’t just want to shop in regular
retail store like Joan… fabrics. So make a trip to berkeley today to check out this store. This store is very clean. I found it is pretty easy to go around to look for fabric.
I think other people ( Unilocaler) said hard to find things.
Ok, it might be slightly more difficult than those retailer fabric store. But I found there are a lot of special fabrics especially for making evening dress.
My daughter and I got some batik print fabric $ 4.69 per yard, they already pre-​cut to
1.5 yard of 3 yards. And today, has 25% off on those (cotton one).
But this store don’t have regular cotton plain color fabrics
(or I did not see it). It is ok, because those common color one,
you could easily find in Walmart or other store.
The staff here are friendly and nice. Will come again.

Discount Fabrics is located on the corner of San Pablo and Ashby — easy to locate and access by bus (49, 72R, 72).
There are rows and rows of fabrics sorted by material quality. You walk around the store, select which fabric you want, then bring it to the counter and the ladies will measure, cut the fabric for you, and ring you up. Some of the fabric is already discounted, otherwise, if you are a student, you get a 10% discount with valid photo ID.
The price per yard for each fabric is conveniently tagged/​written on each fabric roll. The store is very easy to navigate, and the ladies at the counter sweetly answer any questions you may have.
In addition to fabrics, Discount Fabrics also sell buttons, pillows, stuffing, threads and elastics.
