SF Garage and Mercury Engineering/​Pollard Group are EPIC!!!
Need soft story work or have an unreinforced masonry building? Need garage work? Here is a GREAT recommendation. Our Building needed soft story work to comply with the city. We hired SF Garage to do the work and Mercury Engineering to do the plans. I can not express what an amazing job John Pollard and crew did. I am currently the HOA President at my condo building and I have to say that the entire ownership here is beyond impressed!
SF Garage had great project managers in the office and on site. Everyday they were on time. Totally professional. Nice, polite and positive workers. Quality work was done. This is not easy stuff. John and team always went the extra mile to make sure things were done right. John Pollard cares. Really cares. When there were questions or issues from homeowners, John’s team was immediately responsive and came up with solutions. As far as the work itself, to John, it’s not just about passing code but doing a job that makes the building better and stronger for a quake. He educates himself and studies earthquakes and does experiments on water tables to figure out how to make buildings stronger to hold up to quakes.
We found SF Garage via a company that does restoration for our building. They referred SF Garage to us to fix a unreinforced rear retaining wall in our yard. The wall had numerous huge cracks and was crumbling. This is not such a big deal but we sit about 13 feet high above our neighbors behind us. If the wall gave way in a quake, we would be in trouble. The yard is all packed sand! Mercury worked on the plans and SF Garage excavated our yard 13 feet down, filled our yard with cement and built a new wall. Yaay!

I have used Mercury Engineering for 5 jobs in San Francisco, ranging from adding a garage to my two unit building to seismic upgrades of soft story buildings, to full remodels of apartments. I can’t say enough good things about this company and it’s owner John Pollard. I would highly recommend using them and I will continue to use them for all of my future jobs.

Ok. only the super nerd would want to review a Structural Engineer, but you know what, these guys are simply the greatest. Why??? because they are fast, know there stuff and simply deliver when you need your drawings.
