PG Builders

We highly recommend PG Builders. Steve and his team came out right away to give us an estimate and completed all the work we needed in 3 days on short notice. We are putting the house on the market and needed some spruce up work. The prices were very reasonable and the work was excellent. The team was professional, prompt, and committed to doing a great job.

PG builders were quick, efficient, professional and reasonbly priced. I was leaving the country in a hurry and need some last minute fixes to my soon to be rented out house. PG builders sorted out all my problems in a very short time frame and everything looks great

PG Builders did a great job with our new roof. They did the insulation and gutter guards as well. We definitely recommend their services.

I really toggled with my rating and I would say they are a 3.5 stars.
Scheduling was a little difficult as Michael was away with his family. Steve, who was very pleasant to speak with the first time, said that I should wait a week for Michael to come out to give an estimate. Well, a week and a half later — Steve comes out to give an estimate for the kitchen and roof. So, not sure why we had to wait. I guess Michael had something come up. He quoted us for the kitchen and roof. Steve called me the next day stating that he wanted to speak with my boyfriend. I let him know that he could talk with me because my boyfriend was just filling in since I had to work late. He kept insisting on speaking with him only — kinda made me feel like he thought women could not make decisions. Just my opinion — like I said before, our first conversation was completely different.
A couple of weeks later, we circle back around and decide for them to do our roof (replace some sheathing and shingles) and not the kitchen. Michael then told me the quote that Steve gave was incorrect and he would have to come back out again. The new price was 50% more but at least we got the installation of our solar fan with it. Plus, they could do it the next weekend. So, all that and the great Unilocal reviews — we selected them.
Installation Day — Mike called early and said his crew would be there during a certain timeframe. Well, they showed up a couple of hours later than expected. They worked diligently through the day. At first, they forgot to put the tarp down to catch debris so there was a little mess in the yard which they did try to clean up. They also went over and beyond and replaced a couple extra pieces of sheathing and shingles.
Here’s the kicker… I am unpacking (we recently moved in) and I go to the walk in closet only to find that the ceiling came down. I run outside to get their attention and they said that they called Mike. You can tell that this had happened hours before because they had already patched that part of the roof already. Evidentially, one of the roofers stepped through it. It would have been nice if they acknowledged it prior to me stumbling upon it.
They also did not give me the opportunity to inspect it. I let them know I was running to ⁷⁄₁₁ and would be back in 10 minutes… upon my return — they were packed up and gone.
A couple of days later, Mike came to inspect the damage and said that he would repair it. He also inspected the roof with my boyfriend at this time and my boyfriend was satisfied with the work.
They repaired the ceiling and I would have never known there was damage. My complaint was that my boyfriend had to pretty much move everything out and we were left with cleaning and dusting things off from the debris. Accidents happen, I get that. But, we shouldn’t be responsible for the cleanup.
Now payment time, I ask Mike if he is taking anything off for the inconvenience and for me having to wash some of my clothes. His response was that he repaired our ceiling and he already helped out by replacing more sheathing than originally agreed upon. I appreciated that but I think my time, energy and money to get some things cleaned should have been addressed.
Please don’t get me wrong — Mike was respectful and I told him that we can agree to just disagree. I am satisfied with the work but there were hiccups along the way.

We highly recommend PG Builders. Mike Locher is very knowledgeable and professional. They remodeled our small bathroom, outdated laundry room and full basement and painted the entire house and solved a leaking problem that had stumped us for a very long time.
Overall, they did an EXCELLENT job, on-​time and as estimated.
I hope to use them again for our future remodeling needs.

We would highly recommend PG Builders. Mike Locher was extremely professional and did an amazing job on our deck and on other small jobs around the house. They reframed the whole deck area to have a pitch to it for proper draining (it had been flat, a leaking hazard), and finished it with railing and «Dura-​deck» impermeable roofing/​flooring material. Mike first came to our new house and did a walk-​through and talked with us about all of the projects we wanted to do in the long and the short term. He was very upfront and frank about costs and about which projects to prioritize and which to put on the back burner, which was very helpful; his honesty in these things here was obvious from the get-​go. He and his team ended up putting railing and decking on our balcony while we were out of town, and he kept us updated throughout the whole process and went out of his way to accommodate us. He came back to the house to touch up something one of his guys hadn’t quite gotten right, and did that extra work free of charge, right away, and with no questions asked. We were thrilled with the results. We will definitely be working with Mike again for any future projects. (See photos.)

PG Builders was responsive to my initial call and came to see my problem and give an estimate that same day. I had a leaking pipe that required me to cut holes in my wall and living room ceiling. These were smallish holes, so when I called PG Builders for an estimate the owner explained I should add on other work to make the cost of their time to come address it worth it. Other contractors had either said the job was too small for them to do at all or that it would cost an unreasonably high amount. Based on his recommendation, I added an improvement task I had been wanting to do but hadn’t gotten around to yet. In the end we agreed to do the wall/​ceiling patch work, painting, and the added task of removing a full-​length mirror from a living room wall and painting it to match the rest of the room. Luckily I still had paint left over that matched to do this.
The owner and foreman were knowledgeable about the best way to make the repairs and remove the mirror from the wall. The job took longer than expected, but the work was done well and looks very nice. The living room wall that used to have the mirror now matches the other walls perfectly. I would call PG Builders again for additional repair or improvement work.

I saw the great Unilocal reviews and contacted them a couple of weeks ago, but pretty disappointed in the end. Michael was nice and easy to talk to. He was busy at the time and he had his father-​in-​law call me back in a couple of days. We were in the process of closing our new house, needed some painting job, small plumbing and electronic work, attic insulation, and a possible closet extension. Michael’s father-​in-​law was very nice on the phone, he realized that these jobs were easier small jobs, and we could just hire a handy man. But he said he could still help us, he can do the painting, and take care of the plumbing and electric work, except for the attic insulation (we decided not to do the closet). He gave me a ballpark estimate of $ 1,400 to $ 1,500. He said they can finish it in 2 to 3 days, I just needed to call after the closing and they would take care of it. Their office close on Dec 15^th, they could just take care of it before they close for the year.
We were happy about the price and thinking that they would be the right contractor to hire after the closing. We just closed our new house yesterday, and called them immediately. After a few messages and calls, we were finally able to get hold of Michael. However, he has a complete different price estimate about the project. He told me that the same project would cost $ 4000, and they do not take any projects that is less than $ 4000. And they don’t have time until January to do the work. I mentioned about his father-in-law’s price, he said that that price was not worth them coming.
What a surprise! I might be naïve to believe the price in the first place, but it is disappointing to hear such different prices from the same company. Maybe P.G. builders only serve clients with work worth more than $ 4000, they should let us know in the beginning. We won’t bother to wait and contact them again.
Now we have missed our window of opportunity of contacting the contractors, we have to start searching again…
We don’t have the chance to rate their actual service, so this review is about their pre-​service communication. Hope it helps.
UPDATE (12÷16÷14): The owner, Mr. Kebeck called me and apologized for the miscommunication. He planned to honor what he said before but we already hired another contractor to do the majority of the work. We did have some electrical work on our plate and he brought in his electrician and gave us a fair price for the work and got the job done. We appreciate them for making this right and the work that was done by them was done well.

PG Builders did a total tear off of our flat pedestrian roof which had been installed incorrectly by the builder just two years before. PG had to remove multiple layers of cement (as applied by the original builder), cut through metal lathe (also erroneously installed by builder), and then remove two layers of rotted substrate. After tear off, PG had to correct the slope, replace all plywood, add drains and then install Duradek pedestrian membrane over entire surface and up parapet walls, with matching flashing.
Done on time, as promised, very professional, with great attention to detail.
Mike Locher (the manager) is very responsive to customer questions, very patient in his explanations, honest in his assessments, and totally trustworthy. We were even comfortable leaving Mike and his crew at the house when we were not home. That says a lot. His expertise and integrity were unbeatable!
Note that this job was considered extremely complex; 5 of the 8 roofing companies who assessed the situation — opted not to quote as they had no idea how to deal with the structural issues; 2 of the eight who did quote — disclaimed any and all warranties due to the severity of the problems. Mike, however, not only gave a detailed quote of exactly how he would address each and every issue but he was so confident that his crew had the expertise to do the job that he provided a 10 year warranty on labor and materials.
We cannot say enough good things about PG Builders and Mike Locher. Mike went above and beyond the «call of duty» in doing this job. Being that PG is a general contractor as well — they will be the only company we call when we need renovations (not just roof repairs).
Also, Mike is licensed in DC, and knows how to deal with our bureaucratic permit system. How much better can it get?

PG Builders is very fast, efficient and reliable. I had a leak in my roof and called several contractors. Mike Locher was very quick to respond and come check my roof. They repaired the work the next day while I was at work. Mike is proactive and professional. I subsequently used PG Builders to paint my front door and the trim around my front window. They did a great job, once again.
On another occasion over a year later, I called Mike and asked if he could come take a look at a drain pipe under my deck. He came the next day while I was at work and fixed it free of charge. I was stunned and couldn’t believe that he did that. I appreciate Mike and PG Builders and will definitely use them again. I appreciate a great contractor and highly recommend them.

I have to give them a lot of credit for how they handled a situation. We ordered a skylight that turned out to be defective. It was a double-​pane skylight and the inside pane cracked after about a year. PG installed the product in the first place and were great about handling everything once the original light broke. They ordered everything and installed it the day after the received a replacement at no charge. I think that situations like this are where a lot of contractors fall short and I give PG Builders a lot of credit for taking care.

My wife and I moved into a house that had a shoddy roof repair done to it before we moved in. Our home inspector told us the repair would make it another year or so. The heavy June rain that we got disagreed. Being that the forecast called for even more rain later in the week, I called five or six roofing companies to try and get them to come out quickly. Was coming up with nothing until I got in touch with PG Builders. Mike came out on a Tuesday, gave us a quote, and was putting a new roof on our house the following day. The job was done very efficiently, and Mike sent me pictures of the progress that his guys were making throughout the day. One side note… when the roofers were working, they removed an old pipe that damaged some ceiling drywall work. Mike sent guys out the very next day to fix the ceiling drywall. Overall, PG Builders did a fantastic job. They were quick, friendly, and knowledgeable about the job they were doing. Thanks!
