KitchenArts is a hardware store for cooks – a shop that is serious about carrying items that get the job done. We’re not into trendy colors, trendy designs, or kitchen fads. We don’t carry tea cozies, we don’t carry tablecloths.

We do carry 248 different kitchen knives, 312 different pots & pans, 5 types of mandoline, 4 zesters, and 1 egg pricker.

We also provide knife sharpening and repairs, often with a 24 hour turnaround. A sharp knife is a safe knife! Get yours touched up today. And yes, we do serrated knives and scissors too.

History

Established in 1980.

KitchenArts opened in 1980, the offshoot of an importing business founded on Newbury Street in 1930. Have a question? Ask us… many publications do. You’ve seen us in Cook’s Illustrated, Cooking Light, Elle Décor, The Boston Globe, and the New York Times. Boston Magazine has named us «Best of Boston» so many times we’re in the Hall of Fame. We’ve got an opinion on most anything kitchen-related, and we’d like to share our expertise with you.

Hi, I’m Owen Mack. My father opened KitchenArts in 1980, the offshoot of an importing business his father started next door in 1930; you could say I’ve got kitchenware in my blood. I’ve worked holidays at KitchenArts since I was 10, and have been here full time since 1994. If you were in last December your purchase may have been rung up by my 9 year old daughter… generation #4 in the business!

What a great little shop with an excellent selection of kitchen tools – necessities and gift ideas. I could go back time and time again just to pick up a little gadget here and there to make cooking life that much easier and fun!
The prices are surprisingly reasonable as well.
My only complaint… I wish it were larger!

This place is pretty awesome! They sell pretty much anything you need for the kitchen. I came in search for a round ring to use to cook eggs, and i found it! And it was super inexpensive, less than what you expect Newbury st to be.
I know a lot of ricing for kitchenwares and i think Kitchen Arts is pretty reasonable. They also sharpen knives which is very good to know.

I just went in there to get a knife sharpened. Had a nick in the knife and at first they didn’t take it out because they said it wouldn’t hurt the knife performance. I wanted it out, so right there and then they resharpened it, took the nick out, no extra cost. The knife is now extremely sharp for only $ 4. I will use them again. They are knowledgable and the store has a lot of different things that you can’t find except for on amazon.

Love going to this shop whenever I am on Newbury… it’s a great but little shop — full of cool and unique unitaskers that most of us do not have the room for in our kitchens. My experience with the clerks here have been that they could care less about this place or anything else really.

Finally, a small business that knows how to operate in a modern customer-service environment! They have all the fundamentals down (great product selection, knowledgeable staff, good location, fairly competitive prices). I’m new to making food beyond something that is made simply to sustain my existence. The staff was able to take the time and walk me through the various chef’s knives, and I’m confident I chose a knife that will last me for a very long time. By the way, this is the only place I’ve seen that has Wusthof knives for dirt cheap (refurbished, but PLENTY to choose from).
The other thing that’s great about this place is they maintain a blog. You see this from a lot of online businesses, but not too many that are based primarily around their physical location. This tells me that these guys don’t mind spending the time to contribute something to the community while attracting their customers. Even though I can get most of what they sell on Amazon for several bucks cheaper, I’ll buy from them if I have the choice. Small businesses of any industry should take note of these guys.

I took my knives there to get sharpened and they were done quickly and beautifully. One had a wonky bit when I picked it up, but they re-sharpened it for free! :-)) Plus the store has all kinds of kitchen gadgets, from the exotic, to the «they make something for that?!» to the kind of hardcore stuff usually only seen in pro kitchens. Very cool place– I only wish it could be bigger.

Really nice store and the prices were not too insane. They have a great selection of aprons, placemats, knives and lots of other little kitchen goodies. I was really impressed with their cheese knives. I like, I want, I must go back and buy some soon. I also picked up a very cute little creamer in the shape of a penguin for my penguin obsessed mother. They had other cute animal shaped creamers as well. Staff was helpful and polite. Cool place.

The service here couldn’t be beat. When I started to stock my kitchen with decent pots and knives, the staff asked me what I cooked and recommended cookware that was perfectly suited (and which I wouldn’t have bought otherwise) They actually steered me towards their cheaper serrated bread knife because it had a more ergonomic handle — it was what the staff preferred to use. 10 years later I am still happy with those purchases!

This store is ridiculous! If I was having a sad day, I would have to do one of two things: look at pictures of F*cking Peppers online or buy myself something nice at this store. Then the world would be a little brighter.
I came in here recently and bluntly asked the clerk, «What do you have that I can give to someone who already has everything?» He then proceeded to take me on a highly entertaining whirlwind tour of the store’s most ridiculous gadgets. We covered everything from pineapple corers to salad dressing spinners. I learned about the ever popular butter bell and the silliness of a sea salt shaver, ogled mini whisks and poo-pooed overpriced Le Creuset pans (too heavy for the plane). After a personalized Dixie cup demonstration of a wine aerator, I started to feel slightly guilty.
While I didn’t find a gift for my mother (she does have EVERYTHING!) I walked out with two inexpensive presents for myself, one slightly more expensive present for my boyfriend, and a very helpful number to call about a missing part for one of my Cuisinart appliances at home.
If you are culinarily inclined, I strongly recommend that you take a trip to this amusing place. They have all of your usual necessities along with a plethora of brightly colored strainers and many mysterious gadgets. And don’t be afraid to ask about that small pointy thing with the holes in it and the strings coming off the back. The staff rocks and I’m sure they will inform you of it’s many valuable uses.

I like Kitchen Arts.
While they may not have everything you are looking for, due to their small size, and the price may be somewhat high due to location location location… it is a great alternative to a large store such as Williams and Sonoma on a day when you just want to dash in an out during some errand running.
People are very helpful here and quite knowledgeable about their products.

I love this place. Small and cramped, sure, but only because of the plethora of kitchen «necessities». Need a mango pitter? A mortar and pestle? A funky salt and pepper shaker? They have it! They also have some cookware, cutlery and presentation pieces. But that’s not the focus today.
It is their kick-ass knife sharpening service. One day turnaround, $ 5 a piece. They wrap up the knives for your commute home and everything (i brought them in wrapped in a towel, lest the T lurch and i stab multiple people…). I was cutting tomatoes and carrots like a rock star once more.
Convenient location, friendly service, decent prices. If you are mangling your veggies and tearing your meat apart with your current set, drop off your knives — you will be thrilled with the difference.

Kitchen Arts has turned many a blah day into a yippee type day for me. All I have to do is step inside this tiny gem on Newbury and I am transported back to my days as a very bad chef. Thousands of tiny things you never knew you needed, hundreds of things that you can’t afford, and everything you could ever want. Drop off your knives to be sharpened and you’ll have them back the next day, for only $ 3. Yippee!

I actually really enjoyed this place. The prices aren’t astronomical for being on Newbury St. I both 2 cast iron skillets here i think for less than $ 50 for the two of them and I absolutely LOVE them to pieces. The people are wicked nice and there are some really interesting items that they have that you would find at other places.

Fun kitchen place to browse, and I am no Iron Chef. Lots of unique ware crammed into a tiny space, but it makes you want to throw out your entire kitchen and start over. Look for: a wide selection of ramekins in all shapes and sizes.

Surprising how much this tiny store can carry. I was impressed that after looking for a long time for a simple rotary cheese grater, this place carried two different kinds while BB&B and Macy’s and grocery stores didn’t carry any. According to the signs posted along the walls, this place has been voted best culinary store in Boston for many years running. Even though this is on Newbury St., their stuff is actually quite reasonably priced and comparable to the big chains.
