Specialties

Wine is a journey not a destination. Join us on the adventure. The Wine Bottega is committed to discovering and sharing small-production, hand-crafted wines from around the globe. We believe that each bottle contains more than just fermented grape juice, it holds the story of the people and the place that created it. Italian wines are a particular specialty, but we also seek out interesting finds from France, Austria, Germany, Spain, Portugal, New Zealand, Australia, South Africa, Chile and Argentina. Whenever possible we work with producers who practice sustainable, organic or biodynamic viticulture. We also love to help with your food and wine pairings! From the collector to the curious, there is something for everyone.

History

Established in 2000.

Located in Boston’s Historic North End along the Freedom Trail, The Wine Bottega has long been Boston’s best wine shop for unique, artisanal wines. The original owner, Paolo Diecidue, moved to Romania and the store was expertly managed by Peter Nelson, now of Umbria Restaurant, and Kevin Cassidy. In October of 2008, the store was purchased by Kerri Platt, a Boston native, with extensive industry experience. The Bottega continues it’s tradition of seeking out excellent small producers and sharing their stories. There’s always something new to discover and we look forward to getting to know your palate.

Meet the Business Owner

Kerri P.

Business Owner

As with many in this industry, I fell into wine by fortuitous accident. After graduating with a degree in Biology from Yale, I moved out to San Francisco and somehow found myself as a baker at a Noe Valley café. This led to waiting tables and eventually restaurant management where I fell in love with wine, particularly educating others about wine. I got my feet wet at Bare Cove Wine Annex in Hingham, MA and then on a whim packed up for Australia to pursue a Masters in Wine Business at the University of Adelaide. After two wine drenched years down under, I returned to Boston and became the Veuve Clicquot Portfolio Manager and eventually worked as a salesperson for Classic Wine Imports. The siren call of the wine shop was too strong and I spent 2 amazing years learning from the some of the best minds in the industry at Lower Falls Wine Co. in Newton, MA. I always hoped to own my own shop some day and when I found out The Bottega was for sale, it was a dream come true!
