Mama Bears espresso is a great place for great coffee. The girls are nice and seem to love their job. They make good conversation and good coffee. It’s a great spot to stop at for a quick cup of coffee on your way to work in the morning or just while you’re out running errands.

I haven’t tried the other coffee stands along this stretch of B-E Hwy(and there seem to be coffee stands at least every other block through here), but this one would easily merit return visits. It’s tucked in against a gas station, easy to get into and out of, especially for the southbound traveler. Not sure I buy the Unilocal Tips about baristas flashing boobie, though. Maybe anything’s possible, but that stripper coffee vibe just didn’t seem to be happening here at all. She was fully clothed and looked like she intended to stay that way for the duration. More importantly, she made great coffee, made it quickly, and sold it at a great price. $ 2 for a big two-shot Americano. Cheapest I’ve found in a while. Tasted great, and she was fun to talk to the whole time. I’d definitely come back here if this were a morning route for me.

I can’t believe I haven’t tried this little stand before this weekend. The barista was super friendly and quickly served up the two drinks ordered. This is going to sound silly… but I was impressed with how attentive she was in questions. The standard questions: do you like foam, do you want straws, whip cream, do you need a sleeve, etc. But she went through all the things you’d expect to be asked, actually listened and remembered the answers, and responded to each of our responses in the orders with speed and a smile. Like I said, it sounds silly… but it’s sometimes surprising how many times I get asked the exact same questions(whip, straw) over and over during a latte order because the barista isn’t really listening for an answer. Or how often I say no whip or no straw and end up with both anyway. Pretty convenient location in the Papa Bear Shell gas station here in Thrasher’s Corner.

I went to Mama Bear’s espresso once and got the most burnt shots I have ever tasted. I decided to go try it again with a different girl since they served urban city coffee(which is my favorite) and again, burnt. So burnt, I was scraping my tongue afterwards. I do not recommend this stand unless you are getting a mocha with tons of chocolate to coverup the burnt taste. The morning girls has no idea how to make a decent coffee!

Well, as Chandler said, I totaly recommend this place. Easily accessable from BE Hwy, cheap prices that get even better durring happy hour, punch cards, friendly staff, and a good cup of coffee. I’ve never had a bad experience or drink from this stand and i’ve been many many times. Won’t be going as much now that I moved, but if I’m back in the area, this will be my coffe stop!

Based on a recommendation from Marin S. I decided to give Mama Bear’s Espresso a try. I was glad I did. Mama Bear’s is the espresso shack located in front of Papa Bear’s shell station. I’ve always avoided it for this reason. How good could an espresso shop be that is an extension of a gas station/car wash? Great, it turns out! So far I’ve had a mocha and a latte. Both were great. They use Darigold dairy products(soy is available), and Urban City coffee. Combine those with friendly and competent baristas and you’ve got a good fix for your coffee yearning. Some other things that stand out for me are a late closing time(8PM), punch cards, and a generous happy hour time frame – three to eight on weekdays, and all day on the weekends. Give Mama Bear’s a try. I’d love to see more opinions!
