Bicycle Village – Boulder

Popped in to see what they had for our daughter, and walked out with a nice new bike for her. Customer service was excellent– helpful but not pushy. They offered her the chance to ride the bike outside& fitted her with a helmet (going above and beyond to make sure it fit correctly first). We will definitely be back in the future for our son and whenever we need other bike gear etc.

I’ve been in a few times for miscellaneous piece parts. For a large shop I’m always amazed that their mechanics are so inexperienced and uncreative. They do know how to build up a bike but when it comes to something that isn’t out of a box, they stumble pretty hard. They are also marking up parts more than most other shops I frequent. I only go here when I’m desperate.

Had a great experience at the Boulder Bicycle Village! Very helpful and knowledgable team. As a first time bike buyer, I had no idea what bike was most appropriate for me. Christine spent an entire afternoon with me making sure I found the right bike and showing me the basics. She offered a variety of choices and made sure I got on a number of bikes for a test ride. The service was excellent and I’ve been enjoying my new bike since!

Great store that can serve a variety of your bike needs. Everything from a wide selection of basic maintenance pieces (tubes, pumps, CO2, lube etc.) to a huge apparel section as well. They also have a significant selection of bikes that can easily get the whole family on 2 wheels!
Recently had a Retul fit from Vega and it has made a tremendous difference in my riding. I was able to work on the smaller parts of my form and become much more efficient on the bike. In just a week, I’ve noticed a tremendous difference in my power as well as had chronic hamstring/​back problems fade. Absolutely worth the time to get fit!

I just popped in to look at hardtail 29ers to get some ideas. I cant remember his name but he spent a good amount of time with me, he wasn’t trying to pressure me at all, just answering some questions, making some suggestion etc. A really pleasant experience for sure. On a second visit I used the service Dept. Could not have been better! They fit me in to get the work done and the price was great, and they seemed happy and eager to help me. Love that kind of service!

I stopped in to have them evaluate my niterider light that appears to have a battery or charger issue. I asked up front to speak to someone about it and was told by Cisco (who was helpful) that he would have someone at service help me out. I waited by the service desk for about 10 minutes and a couple of the employees did inquire if I needed help. I responded that Cisco had arranged that a specific person would be the one to help me. After another 5 minutes of waiting, I asked one of the employees if they could check in with the person I was referred to. He came out of the back and started yelling that he had somewhere to be in 10 minutes that was 30 minutes away and there was no way he would be able to help me. This was completely unprofessional and a female employee apologized and asked if there was another arrangement for an evaluation that she could arrange, seeing that my niterider was a high end version that they didn’t sell, she had no way of actually helping me, I kindly responded that I would take the light to Excel and have them do an eval. This store has a large selection of items, but the employees do not appear very knowledgable about the product they sell and there service is very superficial, meaning they can only give basic answers with no real knowledge of what is best about a product or why. If you are in need of a tube or something basic, this shop will do, my recommendation though if you want true knowledge of bike and great service, go to boulder Cyclesport, Sports Garage, Excel or University bikes. You will have a much better experience and get better direction on your cycling needs!

These guys were very helpful, particularly in light of some communication snafus, and bent over backwards to help me fix my bike in a timely fashion. If they can get themselves an electronic ticketing system (versus good old fashioned paper), they will be stellar. I’m heading back there to get anything else I need…

I got a flat tire a block away from them and they took me in to fix it up just after 8 PM, right as they were closing. They were very kind and patient with me. Thank you for your help, guys!

I had a great experience at Bicycle Village the other day. Not a normal day either, but actually the day before my wedding.
My fiancé and I decided to do a triathlon on the morning of our wedding and some of our out-​of-​town guests were going to join us. We needed a few components for our bikes and our guests needed to buy and rent some gear for the race. Four of us walked in and were immediately helped by a service rep – he stayed with us the entire time we were in the store and helped us our with everything we could possibly need to buy or rent from the store. He was knowledgable about everything in the store and was cracking jokes with us almost immediately.
The whole place has an easy an fun vibe to it that is very welcomed in the outdoor-​sports world I feel. Would definitely recommend to anyone.

Couldn’t ask for a better shop. I have had nothing but great experiences here. I fell off my bike the other day and had some minor repairs to be done. The shop guys looked it over and fixed it up on the spot over some laughs. The sales reps are happy to talk shop with you over the bikes they have, as well as local rides and riding experiences.
There are only passionately dedicated professionals at this shop. I would recommend it to anyone in the market for a new bike, parts, accessories, or service. Love this place!

Great Service and the best Bicycle Village location in the Denver area… we know because we visited most all of them in two days. Service and inventory when looking for a bike for my 7 yr was greatly lacking at Aurora and Westminster. Should have just gone to Boulder the first time. Great selection of new and used kid’s bikes. Excellent customer service. Thank you Boulder Bicycle Village! My 7 yr old is a very happy boy, ad so are his parents. We will be back soon with the 5 yr old.

Stellar bike shop. There are a lot of stores in town that can sometimes be a little pretentious or snobby. This has been especially true for some of my friends who have gone into a shop and are completely new to cycling. That is not the case with Bicycle Village. I have purchased 5 bikes from them since I started shopping there and I have referred over a dozen happy customers to them. So I can speak highly of their patience, positive attitude, and great customer service. So far I have been helped by Keith, George, and Fred. Great dudes all around and they know their industry. Their prices are usually the lowest on the bikes I have purchased. Very knowledgeable maintenance department as well. Kudos you guys, customer for life here!

Bicycle village gets a bad rep around boulder. Any other town and this would be the ***go to*** joint. Thanks to boulders cycling community, this shop, is commonly overlooked. This should not be the case.
This evening BV had a little party and I had the pleasure of meeting the team behind the curtain. Free beer (who doesn’t like that) and a table of snacks were what you walked into. A few minutes later you were approached by the managers of the shop. All of which were clearly passionate, dedicated, and above all… Cyclists.
I’m guilty of not giving this shop the time of day. I regret this because after tonight… What I thought was a big box or hybrid/​commuter store, turns out to be a LBS.
Throw more parties, you guys have the space and you also have the staff to pull it off. I rode thru the wind and cold today to join you guys, and had SO much fun, I hope to do it again soon.

This is a great shop with a friendly and knowledgeable staff.

Was in this shop today and am really happy I ended up in there on my lunch break. They have a tons of options as cycling apparel goes and I found some great stuff on sale and for winter riding. I also was told within a month or two a full on Retul fit studio will be built up in the back and they will have a full time fit specialist. Totally something I have been wanting to invest in and I’m really glad I left with some goodies and a smile on my face. Great shop and great employees. :)

There are a lot of bike shops in Boulder and this is the worst one I have been to. One of the staff, kept looking me up and down, which is just plain weird. The guy who helped me check out had no idea what he was doing. I even had to ask for a bag to hold everything– I had about 10 articles of clothing, a saddle bag, arm warmers, etc. and the kid was too clueless to think about putting all of it in a bag? It took them 25 minutes to get me checked out because of an error in their system. The prices are about average but a lot of the stuff on the sales rack was not on sale. Other things were mis-​marked. I thought about test riding a new mountain bike there but given how hard it was to just buy some road cycling gear, I figure I will go to other shops first. The overall experience was pretty bad so I will go to one of the many other bike shops in the neighborhood.

I occasionally shop here as I have found that with all the bike shops in Boulder, there might be something worthwhile in any of them. And this one is easy to find parking and browse. I have brought a few friends here to buy entry level, but bike shop quality, hybrid bikes to get «back into biking» after decades without a bike. I do know something about bikes, have some good ones myself, and am always happy to recruit a biking companion for myself that would be satisfied with less aggressive rides.
The staff has been helpful even though these are very small dollar amount sales for them. There are usually good value close outs etc., for this sort of purchase and my friends have left happy with their new bike. I see families in here on a regular basis buying kids bikes. There seems to be a lot of high end road and mountain bikes in the shop, but those customers must come on a different schedule than I do.

I can’t say enough about these guys. After two failed warranty attempts with the (official) Trek stores in South Boulder (you can read about that fiasco under the review for Trek Boulder), BV (George specifically) actually took the time to hear out my story and see what he could do. Even though he could have brushed me off and said there was nothing he could do, George actually went the extra mile to help me garner a crash replacement warranty for my bike, and actually get me into an upgraded model. Its amazing how some bike stores in this town can get in the mode that they are more important than you, but these guys are class act and I would recommend to anybody in this town. Thanks again Bicycle Village!

This is the big box store of bike shops. Busy, inattentive sales people, the type of place where you need to flag down a sales person because they’re busy talking amongst themselves. They also make you sign the most detailed form just to take a test ride.
Granted the guy who helped me was friendly, but not knowledgeable like some of the «real» bike store sales guys (i.e., ask a question and rather than to have the answer off the top of his head, he read the tags on the bikes). I do admit BV had a rockin’ deal on a bike I was considering and because of the great price, I almost bought it, but I had to ask myself if I wanted to have to come back to BV for service. After reading other reviews, I let the great bike deal go and bought from another store. The staff seemed overall a bit skivvy and salesy — with all of the bike store choices in Boulder, I wanted to buy a bike (and get service) from a place I felt comfortable coming back to in case anything went wrong or I needed adjustments. Check out Trek or REI, they rock!

I see Bicycle Village as a bastion of dismissive employees, mediocre pricing, and questionable bike knowledge. Every time I’ve walked in, I’ve had to interrupt someone at the front cash register to ask for help (as in, person was looking busy at cash register, not talking to someone else). Each time, I’ve been pointed to someone else who needed interruption in order to pay attention to me. I feel invisible in the place.
The other thing I noticed on one of my rare visits was that I was pointed to some pretty expensive commuter bikes. I found the exact bike I wanted at another bike store – one with a helpful proprietor – for about $ 500 less than what Bicycle Village had shown me. It’s just kind of a shifty place, pun possibly intended. I don’t walk in here when I have a choice.
