History

Established in 1976.

Crystal Ski Shop has been a locally owned and operated since it’s founding in 1976. Justin Burger purchased the business in 2009, after working at the shop for Tony Martinez since 2005. Tony, his wife Kristy, and their three boys are still part of the Crystal family, you may even catch them chipping in around the busy holiday season.

Justin was born and raised in Boulder and has been passionate about skiing since he was in his dads backpack at Ski Cooper when he was 1 year old. He started working as a Crystal rental technician when he was attending the University of Colorado. He takes pride in continuing the tradition of excellent service that’s made Crystal a staple in Boulder County.

I’m Boulder born and raised, and still haven’t explored all that the front range and Colorado have to offer. I love the outdoors at all times of year, and I get great joy out of sharing those passions with my family, friends, co-​workers, and customers.

I work as an outdoor guide in the summer, taking guests biking, hiking, fishing, backpacking, and more. It is my hope to exhibit and spread enthusiasm and respect for our natural resources so we can all contribute to preserving these wonderful opportunities for future generations.

Great customer service. My son (age10) and I did a walk in to rent telemark skis. Got us in to good set ups for $ 15 each. Gave us tips on learning telemark that helped. Would rent from them again.

Hands down! Crystal! If you want a great personable experience then this is the place for sure.
Earlier I went to Christy sports to rent to cross country skis yet since my girlfriend wasn’t there they would not rent them to me. I planed to take her on a surprise cross country ski trip. so I said «OK fine I’m just gonna go find somewhere else that would do it.» Sure enough Crystal hooked it up! They understand.
It gets better! We were not able to go because she ended up being sick that. After Crystal had found out about that they wrote me a free rental pass for the exact rentals.
THANKS GUYS YOU ROCK! Can’t tell you how much I appreciate that. You’ve got my loyalty by far.

This is the only place I’ve taken my board to get tuned up and waxed. They offer great prices (especially if you print off their online coupon) and good services. If you are renting anything be sure to get in early — they get super busy especially around the holidays.
Unfortunately I have to give a 4 star rating after having some bad customer service. I took in my board and was told that it would be ready for pick up by the end of the day on the day that I needed it. I called on the day I was told it would be ready only to find out that I would have to pick it up the next morning. Whatever employee was on the phone needs a serious lesson in customer service.

The folks at Crystal Ski are knowledgeable, friendly and just all around super helpful. We got some great advice on fixing up old skis and have also rented there several times. The equipment is good, service is fast and friendly and the price is right. You can also make rental reservations online, which is awesome. Highly recommend Crystal Ski Shop for rentals and service.

Started using these guys last season after developing a hatred for all the other shops in Boulder. Crystal always gives a great tune and wax and their prices are more than reasonable. The folks at Crystal are, hands down, the best in Boulder when it comes to ski rentals and service. They want to get you out in the mountains as much as you want to go, and it shows. They have, a couple times, done some maintenance on my skis and insisted that it didn’t take long enough for them to charge me for it, even though at another shop it could have easily cost $ 10 or $ 20 for the same thing. Their rental fleet is great (as are the prices), and I always take folks visiting from out of town to Crystal if they need to rent gear. They stock alpine, cross-​country, and backcountry gear (including avalanche safety equipment). I can’t recommend this shop enough – if you have any skiing needs, these are the people to see.

I’m new to Colorado, so this is my first full ski season. I went into this well-​reviewed ski shop hoping I could pick someone’s brain about skis, boots, and season passes. I was not disappointed by the friendly staff, who patiently answered all my questions and taught me lots about skis: everything from turning radius, rocker height, and DIN settings to how skis are tuned and waxed.
And though they graciously took lots of time to explain rental options and let me both try on a few pairs of ski boots and meticulously examine a few pairs of skis, I did not feel pressured to rent at all. I’m rather expecting to buy a pair of boots from Larry’s and then demo different skis throughout the season.
Because of my inexperience with ski shops and rentals, I can’t confidently say much about the rental rates, quality of equipment, or selection of demo skis. But what I can say for certain is that the staff I encountered today were friendly and helpful, and they truly seemed to have my best interests in mind.

Very good experience. I could pick up the board the night before. They have Never Summer boards. Only SL and Legacy so far. I would like to see nearly entire Never Summer line up to fill the gaps for riding styles.

These guys were awesome. Low prices for ski rentals plus I didn’t have a piece of equipment that they didn’t rent so Zach ran out to his car and gave me something that he personally owned, told me to bring it back with the equipment and didn’t charge me. What a baller. Good people and thoroughly satisfied.

Had a great experience renting snowshoes for an outing to Brainerd Lake last weekend.
The staff is über friendly, and there was no waiting.
I really felt like they appreciated the business, and were willing to do what it takes to make us feel welcome and appreciated.

Here is the reason that I love Crystal’s — they have great attitudes, plain and simple. I have only been once, but here is how it went:
Me: «Hi, Sports Authority, I want to go skiing tomorrow and need my bindings fit to my new boots, can you help me?»
SA: «It’s at least a three day turn around for something like that and no, I cannot recommend another place to take your skis to.»
Me: «ARRRGHHHHH, that’s ridiculous!»
Me: «Hi Crystal Ski Shop, I want to ski tomorrow and need my bindings fit to my new boots, can you puh-​leez help me (even though I am very aware that I waited to the last minute!!!)
Crystal’s: «We’d love to help, bring them in and we’ll get it done in 15 – 20 minutes, no problem.»
Me: «I LOVE YOU!»
that’s it in a nutshell, besides the fact that the guy that helped me, Zech, was awesome and showed me everything he was doing and the girl that answered the phone recognized my voice from the phone and said how glad they were to have me come in. To top it all off, it was only $ 14 and I was out in less than 30 minutes.
Beat that Sports Authority… you must be pretty embarrassed huh??!

I’m a snow virgin.
I’ve seen in on tv, I’ve driven by it, I’ve flown in it.
But it wasn’t until recently that I got to trek in it.
And it was all due to the help of Crystal Ski Shop I was able to rent my snow shoes for super cheap ($ 12 for the entire day) and able to get my snow shoeing on, up in the hills.
The service was super friendly, fast and welcoming.
I wasn’t able to get my rentals in on time, so was embarrassed about being late in returning them, but the cool guy helping me out said not to worry and didn’t make me feel like a jerk for keeping them an extra day.
I recommend them for their service and their prices… Crystal Ski Shop is the place to go for your snow needs.
