Full Cycle

Thank you Matthew and Steve (and the new owner, who’s name I’ve forgotten)!!! These guys were so clutch when my boyfriend and I first moved to Boulder and started looking for bikes. They set us up with a couple test rides around the neighborhood to really get a good feel of the bikes that we were checking out. Turned out the one that I had my eye on was nowhere close to as comfortable as the one that Matt recommended. They know there stuff! I actually walked in there thinking I wanted this little women’s hybrid, and walked out with a serious men’s mountain bike. I couldn’t be happier! It’s super comfortable and shock absorbent! My boyfriend got a gently used mountain bike that he’s obsessed with. Can’t wait to explore all that Boulder has to offer in the way of bike trails now! That’s another great thing! They showed us a map of trails and told us to ask them if we ever needed advice on a trail or ideas of where to go and what to do. Then Matt actually helped me get our new bike rack on our new hitch. (We figure you have to do it right in order to fully enjoy the experience!!) They also give you FREE LIFETIME TUNE UPS. How great is that?! Super weight off my mind. I love bike people. They are truly some of the sweetest and kindest people! They also offer a riding club that I’m going to check out! The cherry on top was that we got an amazing deal on the price and were able to hold the bikes there for a few days until payday! Can’t tell you enough how wonderful it was to do business with our new friends! Thank you!

Exceptional service and great selection. A welcome change after dealing with the pretentious crew at University cycles

Rented bikes for a half-​day for (I think I remember) $ 25, enjoyed it so much we rented again the following day. Staff was friendly and knowledgeable.
We took hybrid bikes — good quality, shifting solid, comfortable etc. The only thing that was a little weird is that those particular bikes had a very upright cruiser stance which I wasn’t used to, but that’s just normal differences between different bike types. Easy access to the trail that runs along Boulder Creek and from there, you can connect to a lot of other paved trails that run all over town.
Note that parking nearby is ticketed /​controlled (every day except Sunday) and they will ticket you if you’re over time, so plan ahead.

Matthew Haas helped me, and was fantastic. It was the 6^th cycle store I had been in, and I nearly didn’t go in, because I had got so sick of the macho-​bike-​guy thing where I was either literally ignored – one guy in another store took a phone call after he began serving me and 5 minutes later I just left while he was still on the phone, in another store the fellas were all chatting and it was a fellow customer that came up and apologized for the service and offered to help me – or, as in store number 4, told by some white hipster dude seller, «come over here momma and try this bike». Momma? Excuse me? Maybe if I dressed like a bloke I might get some half-​decent service, I thought by this stage, but thankfully in Full Cycle I didn’t need to. I was helped quickly, talked to like a REAL person, no idiot bloke called me his momma, and my questions were treated seriously. Guys out there in bike retail, this WORKS, okay? ;-) I came in later that week with squeaky brakes and they fixed them no problem, and again I was treated respectfully and with friendliness that made me feel – again – like a real human who wasn’t second class just because I (a) wasn’t a guy and (b) wasn’t a professional bike person. Women, you can feel good about going in here and people who want to bike but are unsure, you can feel good here too. There will be time for you, and you might end up commuting around town on a bike you LOVE like I have!

Outstanding all around. I rented a Kona hard tail to take to Valmont. It was the least expensive of the shops I checked, but it was a solid setup. The guys in the shop were friendly, knew their stuff, and we’re fast getting me out the door.
A community note: Come to find out, they also sponsor/​support (?) the Wednesday Night Short Track series at Valmont, which my kids loved. Nice to see a shop out there like that.

Pretty rude staff. I was helped by a younger college-​aged woman with brown hair and not sure if she still works there but man she acted like I was some sort of peasant for some reason.

Awesome experience renting a mountain bike. A gentleman named Steven set me up with a great bike and gave great advice on where to go. Reasonable prices + exceptional service is a great combo!

I received outstanding service at Full Cycle! I was looking for a lower-​end road bike, and was able to take several test rides with no hassle. Steve even swapped stems on one bike to tweak the fit.
When I was ready to purchase, Steve again spent a great deal of time fitting the bike to me, all part of the purchase. Even though I wasn’t spending a month’s wages on a bike, they still treated me like my business was important.
I will definitely return to Full Cycle when I need service or upgrades, and I won’t hesitate to recommend them to anyone looking for bikes.

When one of the associates explains to me about different valves on a rim, I won’t like them. I’ve been riding for decades. I guess it was how they said it, or the overall feeling while in the store. spent a few dollars, but will try to not go there anymore. They seem to be borderline rude, and, like most shops, they seem to think they are above the average customer. just a bad feeling. prices seem high as well. there are 1,000 bike shops in boulder. find one that feels good

this place is GREAT. i told them i was going to fruita and they hooked me up with a fantastic bike. prices are reasonable. they also gave me this kit for everything i’d possibly need. it just so happened to be tornadoing in denver on my way home which caused a massive backup on rt 70 (surprise) and caused me to return the bike after hours. i was sweating bullets since i had a 6am flight the next morning and would be gone for awhile. i called ahead and fortunately chad stayed behind so i could return the bike after hours. they are so great and go above the call of duty. wonderful bike shop!

Stopped in to rent a bike, sweet anthem 29er! Great staff, fast service, and great selection!

This place is overpriced, and the people who work here are rude and pretentious. Go to University Cycle instead…

They don’t care– they just want my money. That’s my conclusion after the following:
1. They sold me a bicycle that was too small for me, as they had set the seat post far above the safety parameter when putting me on it.
2. Then they wanted to sell me an extended seat post rather than atone for #1.
3. Then when my frame broke from the stress of the extended seat post they warrantied the frame but not the nearly $ 100 in labor.
4. When my frame broke a second time, they suggested I buy another bicycle from them. Good thing I’m not that dumb.
Fortunately, Boulder is blessed with University Bicycles, which has always been professional and excellent in every way.

I too have been doing business with Full Cycle on the Hill for over five years. Five years ago I bought a nice bike (Ibis Mojo SL) for myself, and then two years ago one for my wife, and am in the process of buying another. Whenever I bring my bike into the store for work they are quick and courteous, and the price is reasonable. They don’t try to upsell me on anything either, which is refreshing.

I can’t say enough how much I like Full Cycle. They are so interested in making sure that everyone enjoys talking about bikes and gets answers and is comfortable in the shop that I never feel «sold» when I’m in the shop. They also have great connections to events in the community!

I’m new in town and have been looking for a LBS to call home. Full Cycle is giving the others a run for their money. I dropped by to check the place out. They’ve got a nice selection of gear and apparel. Some nicely priced specials as well.
The staff were knowledgeable and welcoming. They were happy to chat about local routes and rides. The shop even has an open stand that customers can use to tweak their bikes.
I’ll be back.

I frequent the Full Cycle shop downtown for apparel, accessories, components, etc. There is a wide selection and the employees have always been very nice, helpful, and knowledgeable. My boyfriend also bought a mountain bike at Full Cycle last year and we had a great experience.
My review pertains specifically to Venus de Miles, a women’s bike club run by Full Cycle. I moved to Boulder three years ago and immediately joined VdM. I had barely been on a road bike before. I can’t thank VdM and Full Cycle enough for supporting and encouraging me as a new cyclist and community member. VdM organizes weekly group rides, training with coaches, skills clinics, and so much more. It also supports the VdM ride in August, benefiting Greenhouse Scholars. The group is well organized and accommodates all skill levels. I highly recommend it for any rider in the area looking to ride with a group or meet other cyclists.

So you know how last time I said my bike was running like a dream after Full Cycle fixed it?
Yeah, that lasted two weeks. Then my front gear went back to the way it was. Then in first gear my chain started reliably slipping off when I climbed hills. Then first gear didn’t work at all. And THEN… my front gearshift stopped working altogether.
The last thing I wanted to do (even though I knew I had to) was take it back to the Full Cycle whirlwind again (see previous review for full definition of ‘whirlwind’), so I procrastinated and just rode around in gears 8 – 16 for awhile.
Until I discovered that CU has a Bike Station that, for $ 10 a semester, will do maintenance on students’ bikes. They fixed Full Cycle’s mistakes in under half an hour. I waited over 2 months to post this review just in case the bike station’s fixes failed as well — because in that case I wouldn’t be justified knocking Full Cycles’s repair.
The bike station’s repair did not fail.
The comparison is clear. If you’re a student, go to the bike station. If not… I can’t help you, because I haven’t yet found a reliable repair shop in Boulder otherwise. But I wouldn’t put Full Cycle on any recommended list.
