One of Boulder’s longest standing businesses and located on University Hill, Silver & Gold Barbers and Stylists is a barber salon that offers services for the entire family. We offer haircuts, styling, color, and brow and lip waxing services. Backed by nearly a century of combined experience, our staff excels in clipper cutting, precision scissor cutting, texturizing and layering techniques. All our men’s cuts include a complimentary hot steam towel and a straight razor shave on the neckline. For the ladies we include a light blow dry and a simple style. Extensive styling is available at additional cost. We are a no appointment shop, so please stop in at your convenience. Appointments are accepted for color services.

History

Established in 1959.

Our founder Fred Saiz began cutting hair in Boulder in 1949 after returning from WWII. He moved from Rocky Ford Co. to Boulder to work at the University

Barbershop, which was located on the Hill. After managing the shop for several years, Fred and his wife Katheryn opened Silver & Gold Barbers and Stylists in 1959. Fred continued to cut at Silver & Gold well into his nineties and passed away in September of 2015, at the age of 96.

Through the years the shop has remained true to it’s barbershop origins, but now offers services for the entire family. We are now in our second generation of family ownership, owned and managed by Fred & Katheryn’s daughter Laurie Saiz Parks. Laurie began cutting at Silver & Gold in the early 1980’s and today splits her time between the cutting floor and caring for Katheryn, now in her nineties.

Hi, I’m Laurie Parks, owner of Silver & Gold. My parents opened the shop before I was born, so I literally grew up in the business. I have fond memories of getting the Tootsie Pops from the basket, usually sneaking more than one. We still use the original barber chairs we had when the shop opened and I laugh at all the times I was told «Don’t play with the chairs! «To a kid, they were like an amusement park ride. I began cutting at Silver & Gold in the early eighties, straight out of barber school. Thankfully I had my father and many experienced barbers and stylists to show me the ropes as I honed my skills. Silver & Gold is more than a business to me, it is a huge part of my life and our family history. I am honored and proud to carry on the tradition of employing only the best, experienced barber/​stylists as well as our excellent customer service, quality hair care and our long standing ties to the Boulder community.
