Brighton/Allston Swimming and Wading Pool

I think this may be closed. I drove by on a hot day and it looked over-​grown and no one was there. The phone is disconnected.

I think People are forgetting that this is a free pool. I am still in college and on a hot day when i don’t have money to flush down the toilet I go here. Considering they have no source of revenue coming in from patrons, its fine for what it is.
Bring a chair if you dont want to sit on the concrete, and an umbrella as well as plenty of sun screen. There is some traffic around the area which isnt ideal, but still I chose to live in the city and this is what I get.
Overall, its a good place to go if you dont have tons of money to spend on private healthclubs or pool memberships.

I am going to start with I spent eight years as an Aquatic Director, not here but I have pretty high standards when it comes to pools. Knowing this was at best just going to be ok I figured after two years of living in the neighborhood I was stop by to cool off.
They have a small, free parking lot which was a great start.
This pool was built in the 1950’s I would guess. The pool house looks like a military bunker. The windows are barred up, the inside has not been painted since maybe 1970 and it was very worn down. I will say despite showing its age it was clean. There are no lockers, the pool equipment is in plain view (which made me a little worried) and there is no curtains or privacy. I could see right into the mens room. Thats just a little sketchy! Good thing I came in my swim suit!
Walking into the pool area I was surprised because it was big. It ranges from 3 – 4.5 feet but no drop off lines are painted (thats a law DCR!) so I would watch small children closely. I could see the bottom. So far so good.
There are no chairs, umbrellas or tables so bring your own furniture. I sat down my lawn chair and people watched.
Considering it was 90 degrees the pool was relatively empty (25 patrons or so). Most of them very small, unsupervised children which made my inner lifeguard just a little worried.
The pool had a fair amount of leaves in it but was fairly warm. It isn’t heated but the warm week helped out the water temperature wise. I went in and was not afraid of getting a disease or anything.
The lifeguards scared me. After being horrified at the Fall River incident I would hope and expect to see the most professional lifeguards of my life. They where not. There was one who was «on duty» the others where hanging out in the corner chatting amongst each other. One other was wondering around. Without uniform or rescue equipment. The one young man doing his job was great. The other two girls and guy well they did nothing. I felt bad for the poor hard working boy who seemed to be the only one doing anything.
While I would consider coming back on a hot day to cool off if you have children watch them like a hawk and bring them dressed to swim. I would not change them here or expect the lifeguards to watch them.

I went for my first, and only, time today. I had been looking for a good pool to make my summer hang out spot on my days off of work and after reading other reviews this seemed like a great option. The building to walk into the pool was rundown and had a sign that said «pool closed do not enter» but after walking around I saw that people were in fact there. Once walking onto the pool deck, I immediately noticed that a free pool really doesn’t have much to offer. The pool floor, walls and water were dirty with bugs, leaves and grime. There are no chairs which is fine, but there also isn’t much pool deck space so it got crowded fast in the later afternoon.
Maybe after a thorough clean-​up and sanitization this would be a great summer pool option. But until then, I will continue my search elsewhere.

totally empty almost every day. completely clean water, and they scrubbed and cleaned the changing rooms. MUCH nicer than newton pool — and free. Bring a chair.

I just went their for the first time this past Sunday and it was pretty nice overall. I was expecting many more screaming yelling children but it was pretty peaceful, and not overcrowded at all.
As for cleanliness, I didnt see anything gross in the pool, just a few leaves. I was expecting much worse. The bathrooms are kinda gross though and you are supposed to shower before you head to the pool area so make sure you have flip flops on!
As far as FREE PUBLIC swimming pools, I don’t think you can get much better than this.

I’ll have to agree with the plenty of leaves, children and teenagers. But after two failed attempts to cool off that the beach (it was like the sahara!) and the Brookline swimming pool (it was indoors. woops) my friend and I finally ended up at the Brighton/​Allston swimming pool.
There aren’t any seating options, so unless you bring a chair you’ll be stuck on the concrete with your towel. Which is fine. but for a few hours could become uncomfortable.
Overall, a good place to go on a hot day.
