I grew up eating here my dad owned the Brighton Tap next door and i always loved the food. Mandy and Joe’s closing is a huge loss for Brighton center.

I only found out about this place about a year ago when my girlfriend too me out for breakfast. The food is so good and the service was phenomenal! I always get the French toast with whipped cream and bananas! My favorite part was when we came this morning for the last breakfast here and the owner, said to me thanks for being a regular. I’m going to miss this place but I wish the best for the owners! This is a classic and will be missed. Thank you again for all your fabulous service and delicious food!

Great breakfast! Reasonably priced. Great, traditional diner service. They have wifi. You can call and get breakfast to go! Highly recommended!

Comfort food — yay! Square meal for under $ 10 — yay! Counter staff sing along to radio — yay! Quiet, friendly vibe — yay! In and out in 30 minutes when I’m busy — yay! I’ll be back. Just not too regularly, or my waistline will start expanding. Update: tragically, they are closing at the end of March 2015.

Adding a new star since my last review in 2009, because thisplace has only gotten better and is now one of my favorite places in Brighton. It’s the kind of place that sticks to its roots, and it’s rare that the food or prices change drastically. Since my very first review 5+ years ago, the service has improved drastically. It’s so nice to have a place where I can get a nice, hearty breakfast and spend less than $ 10. Edit: After 70 years, Mandy and Joe’s will be closing on Sunday, 3÷29÷2015. The owners are retiring. Go get your omelets while you can!

We came for breakfast on a snowy morning and never wanted to leave! Such good value, quick service and they made you feel like part of the family! I will definitely be coming here instead of jim’s deli from now on! An absolute gem!

A quiet and homey diner on Washington St in Brighton. I’ve been here twice and have loved my breakfasts both times. The place is decorated with vintage décor and it is clear that this place is family run in a good way. Seat yourself and grab a menu. Don’t forget to look at the boards above the counter. It contains more food options than are written on the menu. Specifically — breakfast burritos. The only real egg options on the paper menu are omelettes and breakfast sandwiches. There are some pretty nifty looking pancake options too. The omelettes are HUGE and corn with home fries and toast. The raisin toast costs a little extra but it’s sooo tasty :) Since it’s on Washington St there is limited parking in the area but most visitors are in walking distance anyway. Cash only i believe but the prices are no more than you would expect them to be. Plenty of ATMs in the area of you need them!

This place is seriously one of my favorites in Boston. It’s super cheap and the food is delicious, hot and theres tons of it. Everyone there is always nice. The menu is written above the counter where you can sit if the booths are full. I actually go there so much that they usually know what I want before I even have to say it! I mostly get food off the breakfast menu but it all comes out quick and I like that you can see them making it there. That way you know its fresh and real food — not like certain fast food chains. Just make sure if you go to bring cash since they don’t take cards.

Casual diner with good food, but lacking service. I’ve been here a few times, last time it was only a few customers, and waiter hardly did his job. Good if you want to be left alone but god forbid you get a 2nd cup of coffee. If I could I’d rate this place 2.5 stars.

Best breakfast in Brighton. To those that wrote a negative review after a single bad experience, should we ask an ex about one of their single bad experiences? This place has some great food. For my wife and I, it’s become a Sunday morning tradition. Coffee — iced or hot — is very good. We’ve met the owners several times and found out the story behind the delicatessen. If you’re coming in after a long night, add an egg to your omelet and grab a grilled English Muffin. Or, the Irish Breakfast. Nice diner and ambiance. Be sure to bring some cash because they don’t take cards.

Wow! I gotta say I felt like I went back in time when I walked in. However, I ordered a Ruben that the owner Mandy personally shaved the meat thin form me and I was over blown away! So flavorful and perfectly assembled sandwich will bring me back for more! Must try!

Not my favorite. Considering there are some fantastic food eateries all over this street. Most likely not to return. On a positive note the server was friendly and the place was clean.

Mandy & Joe’s has a ‘diner’ ambience, in a good way. Its quaint diner layout and menu give it a nice atmosphere for breakfast or brunch. The food is great for getting your day started(the vegetarian omelet is great!) and the coffee is decent. Unfortunately, the staff(I think only one person was working when we went) are stretched VERY thin. Refills took 15 minutes to arrive and drinks were forgotten from our order. The guy working there is very nice but simply needs back-up.

Love this place. They’ve been doing their thing right here for about 60 years, so you have to take the occasional negative review seen below for what they are, which is a minority view. You don’t serve six decades of food without having an off meal, or a distracted waiter along the way. But Mandy & Joe’s is old and comfortable like your favorite shoes, and the breakfasts and sandwiches here are high-comfort diner food. The all day breakfast is a godsend. I usually roll with the steak & eggs, which are consistently tasty, but the pancakes are great too. The hamburgers are excellent. None of this is diet food. Tofu and protein shakes are available just down the street. But when you crave an old school breakfast, this is the kind of place to have on your short list. More coffee please!

What a quaint and cozy place! Keeps it traditional and the menu is short and sweet. Nothing too fancy, it’s definitely an old diner that’s been around since the 50’s or something. Our waitress(can’t remember her name) was very friendly and nice to us. We originally wanted to go to Jim’s Diner right down the street, but it was so packed so we made our way over here. The food was actually REALLY good! Definitely beats Mirror Café down the street. It was priced just right and had the right portions. Would definitely go here again! :)

I was excited to go and see what an old time diner would be like. If this is what an old time diner is like, I am glad we are not in «old time» anymore. 3 of us walked in, and just stood there waiting to be either greeted, seated, or asked to wait while they cleaned a table. There was a guy cleaning the table quite quickly, so we figured we would go to that one. Good guess, since he turned around and said– okay it’s ready. He, I believe, was the hardest working person there– he was cleaning the table pretty quickly and looked winded from working around the room. Unfortunately, when we sat down, I do not think he wiped it down because the table was unbelievably sticky. 5 minutes later, our waitress came over for our order. This was after we looked at the menu… the smallest menu that I have seen. I respect the fact that they want to keep it old fashioned and focus well on their small menu, but it was disappointing to see something so small. We ordered, and luckily didn’t wait too long for the food. My eggs, homefries and toast were fine– I asked for well done homefries but did not receive them as so. They were pretty warm-raw. My gf got a mushroom omelette, the mushrooms were canned which she did NOT like, and the cheese was also not great. My brother said he enjoyed his omelette. As we were leaving, we decided that we were not coming back– we like variety. The service was not good, we were barely approached after we got our food, we got the bill and luckily we did not need change because we probably would have had to wait for it. The food was cheap, not good, and no variety. Final decision: Not worth it.

No, no, no. If it weren’t for the line out the door of our usual weekend brunch spot, we would have never stepped into Mandy & Joe’s Deli; however, next time I’d much rather wait in a 30 minute line for good food than come back to Mandy & Joe’s. The look of the place is actually quite nice and very, very diner-esque. Linoleum as far so the eye can see, a counter you can eat at, and a short, simple menu of traditional diner fare(sandwiches, breakfast plates, etc.). The rest of what you’d want from a diner was completely missing. First of all, the staff is inattentive and embarrassing. Not only was there no instruction on where to sit or what to do upon entering(luckily we guessed correctly and sat ourselves at a booth) but it took nearly ten minutes(!!!) for someone to ask if we wanted something to drink. All the while, a male waiter passed our table a number of times and never once approached us. This same waiter was chit-chatting with the girls at the booth next to ours and talked about how he just«BS-es around» and goes outside to «smoke a joint all the time».(If my review gets flagged for saying that, so be it — these were his words not mine, and I’m in no way making this up.) Well, if you want to go somewhere with a stoned waitstaff, I guess this is the place to go… The coffee was watered down and flavorless and my mug had dried egg yolk on the bottom, to make it even worse. I was never asked for a refill when I was getting low on coffee, not that I wanted any more. I picked up a cup of coffee from Dunkin’ Donuts on the way home anyway. My eggs were under-done, the home fries were absolutely flavorless, and when we were handed the check(after waiting another 10 minutes for someone to ask if we were done) and walked it to the register, we were surprised they are cash-only. That’s fine and dandy, but there were no signs or writing on the menu to tell us this, so we had to walk to the nearest ATM down the street to pay up. Honestly, this place was disgusting and not worth my time or money. Next time I’ll wait in line at a good, reliable restaurant with friendly staff and good food.

I get it, the line at Jim’s Deli was long and you didn’t want to wait. You thought, well this seems like a perfectly good establishment and I will not have to wait to get food. You just made a terrible mistake. While Mandy & Joe’s is decent, you should have gone to Jim’s right down the street(Refer to my post on that mecca of food). Mandy & Joe’s will give you a run of the mill breakfast experience and you have to pay with cash. I enjoyed that you could see them cooking your food and there were a few cute BC girls in there but just stand in line and wait at Jim’s. Trust me.

I like this place, and rally it’s better than 3 stars, but the cash only drops it down quite a bit. The food and coffee are solid, the décor is a bit dated in an odd way. Not like your typical diner. I can’t put my finger on it. It reminds me of what a typical 1950’s resultant might have looked like? But not like your typical diner. It s a good way to switch up the Brighton center bfast options though.

My first time… eating Irish breakfast! Everything like that seen in the pic plus fungus(mushroom) and toast(white or wheat). With coffee, everything is right with the world for the next hour.
