I have not been to this location, but we visited the(former?) Spring Street location for a late night snack after Broadway. We ordered two single-serving chocolate cakes to bring back to our hotel. They were moist, not too sweet, and so satisfying. We also loved how cute the atmosphere was as we ordered.

first taste of goodies from this Portuguese sweetery was from a friend’s seeming forever stash of Chocobolo Original cake(how she stays sexy is a mystery). my faves tho are pastel de nata(eggy tart) and pão de ló(custard cake). caution: one is never enuff.

Great place! Has free wi-fi and the sandwiches have warm, fresh baguette bread which i love. There is always an available seat and a nice atmosphere.

I work upstairs in the same building and find myself stopping in at Choco Bolo regularly. Coffee is good and reasonably priced, though only comes in one size. The Iced mochaccino is made with real bittersweet chocolate, and can be delish, though it often has chunks of chocolate still floating around in it– something that I don’t mind entirely, as it’s a nice chocolatey surprise, and which can probably be attributed to its being an iced drink. I’ve never had the hot version. The food is a great deal for the price. The sandwiches all come with a small mixed greens salad. The salad has a really nice light vinaigrette dressing on the side. Sandwich wise, I’ve had them all– tosta mista(grilled ham and cheese), capresa, smoked salmon, and smoked turkey. All are pretty tasty, and I’ve only one complaint– occasionally the capresa sandwich is a little gritty feeling, like perhaps the spinach wasn’t washed well enough. Otherwise, it still tastes really good(and the bread is really nice). The chocolate cake is good, not great(I’m glad they changed their name from«The Chocolate Cake in the World» because it wasn’t), but the real show stopper is the chocolate chip cookies. They are SOOOO good. Sometimes its tough for me to get up to work without stopping in to get one. They’re dangerous. So if you’re going to stop in at Choco Bolo, grab a cup of coffee, maybe a sandwich, but definitely the chocolate chip cookie!

I was not impressed with the espresso I had here, the crema was OK, but the beans had too much acidity for me. I did enjoy the apple cinnamon muffin. Light and fluffy not too heavy. Overall 4 shots and a muffin for over 8 bucks is a bit too high for me, maybe if the coffee was exquisite.

Before hopping onto the F train to get back home into the city, I needed to use the restroom. Is it just me or does NYC lack public restrooms? I know tourists are annoying but what about locals??? To be honest with you all, when I drink coffee, two things happen to me: I get re-charged and I need to go take a piss after a while. Randomly walked into this place, asked the cashier/barista guy if there was a restroom here. He told me that there was on the second floor. So I decided to buy a cup of coffee($ 2.01 with tax) so that I don’t seem like a cheap skate. After using the restroom, I drank my Java(which was above average) along with a slice($ 3.50/slice) of their Chocolate Cake(which btw is rated the BEST in DUMBO). I must agree 100%, the Chocolate Cake was rich and moist and not overwhelming sweet either. The cashier guy was really nice and friendly too. Will definitely return!
