Day Light Window Treatments

I only needed some advice on fixing my existing window treatments and Gill called me back and gave me great, free advice over the phone. Seems like a great guy, who really knows his stuff.

Well it seems there’s a lot of people here who really like this company and their rep (s). I guess not everybody is going to ‘click’ with everybody though. I found their rep a bit er… I don’t know that ‘abrasive’ is the word but… with somewhat of a ‘can’t do’ attitude. I was also surprised that unlike another company that came out to my apartment for a consultation, their rep never asked me in advance to give them a sense of what I was looking for color/​style-​wise.
When they showed up to my home and we began talking about colors and styles, I was surprised that they did not seem prepared to show me examples of styles. So they had to go on the internet and do a ‘search’ to look for potential valance styles for example, to show me.
In the end, the price they quoted to me was double what two other companies (Smith and Noble, and Horizon Window Treatments) quoted. So I didn’t end up using Day Light…

the responsibilities of a business include customer service. If someone calls you and wants to give you business, be respectful and call them back. GO out of your way to call them back. Otherwise you get bad Unilocal reviews and no business. Sorry. Too busy? Try again. Too rich? Retire and take down your shingle.

I found Day Light Window Treatments (and Gil) by going to different stores and doing my share of online research. Now that my windows are done, I am very glad I chose Day Light Window Treatments.
As all of the other writers have said, Gil is a skilled, talented, creative, and professional designer. He also is one of the nicest, most thoughtful guys you’ll meet anywhere. Not only does Gil have great ideas and a wealth of experience, but he also listens carefully to what his customers are thinking, and he invests the time needed to do a great job. I definitely recommend Day Light Window Treatments, and I wish Gil (and his company) all of the success that they truly deserve!

We’re jumping on the Gil bandwagon. :)
We live in a new construction condo that has a number of unique architectural features — as such, it makes things like window treatments more difficult than they usually are. We had done some research on what types of window treatments we would like, and we had settled on a couple of product choices we thought would work for us. Gil came in for the consultation, and pretty much right off the bat said he wouldn’t recommend the choice we had made, not only because of the technical difficulties of applying that type of window treatment to our windows, but also because he said the product was actually not that well-​made and breaks down pretty quickly (mind you, this product was from a top-​name manufacturer). So even though I was a bit let down that the product we spent some time choosing wasn’t going to work, we certainly did appreciate Gil’s straight-​forwardness in telling us so.
He then worked with us to figure out what WOULD work and what he thought would look nice, given our basic requirements of privacy, some sun-​blocking (while still being able to see our view), and a modern style. We were planning for window treatments for 3 rooms all at the same time, and to add a slightly different feel to each room, we decided on 3 different types of window treatments. We got solar shade panels that open and close horizontally in our kitchen /​living room, motorized shades in our 2^nd bedroom /​office, and dual-​layer blackout drapes in our master bedroom (they cover the whole wall and go all the way from ceiling to floor — very dramatic!). We were also looking for a motorized option for the living room /​kitchen, and he said he just wouldn’t recommend it due to the motor being quite large for that setup (and thus would have been difficult to place), as well as the cost being an extra $ 3,000 — point taken! Gil performed all the careful measurements at this time (and that’s when we learned fun facts like how our walls /​ceilings were not entirely straight, lol). Being an interior decorator, Gil was able to guide us to the right choices in color and fabric, while also helping us figure out what our options were in terms of what type of treatments would work for each room. It can be difficult to marry up 3 peoples’ tastes across 3 different rooms, but we got it done, and by the time he left, we were excited for the install!
We then waited approx. 3 weeks for all of our stuff to arrive at Day Light, since everything had to be custom cut, etc. We received a call from Day Light to schedule the installation, and it was on!
Gil arrived with an assistant, their supplies, and all their tools, and got to work. I went into my office and did some work, and before I knew it, they were calling me out to check out the results in the living room /​kitchen. It looked awesome! And it made the room much darker, while still allowing us to look outside, and yet completely obscuring the view from the outside looking in. Exactly what we wanted. They then moved to my office, then our master bedroom — the last 2 seemed to go quicker than the 1^st. Everything came out beautifully — we’re very happy with the results, and we’re very happy that the Unilocal community led us to Gil and Day Light. We’d do it all over again if we had to.
Last little thing — Gil has assured us that if anything were to go wrong, all we’d have to do is give a call and he will address it for us — no need for us to go trying to fiddle with things to fix them ourselves. That kind of post-​finish customer service is invaluable. Thanks Gil!

Gil offers the highest quality service and the highest quality product. I have windows framed by a very old and uneven brick wall, and Gil took the time to make custom measurements and careful installation so that nothing was uneven. (My window frames are actually slanted, but the are straight as a string). I got mahogony wood-​slat blinds and it was a great investment.
Couldn’t be happier. Ask for Gil, he’s the best there is.

I’m giving Gil Kasimov’s Day Light window treatments 5 stars because he provided excellent service after some bad experiences with other window treatment folks.
The good first: Gil has good taste. He recommended exactly what we needed for our apartment without trying to upsell things we didn’t need (like others did). His color suggestion was excellent. The products arrived at our place quickly (even over Christmas) and Gil called promptly to set up install (too quickly! I was busy at work and didn’t really have time to deal with this — but it worked out). He was on time for installation and did the job quickly and cleanly. We’ll see how things go in terms of service and repair, but to date, we were very satisfied with the service and thought it deserved some real praise. If you live in Brooklyn and need shades, I think it’s worth your time to call these people and give them a chance to make a deal.
To the extent I have something bad to say, it’s that you’re never going to get the price from a private company like this that you might get from, say, Lowe’s, where my parents in Virginia bought similar shades for less. So I feel like we paid a slight premium for giving business to a local person. However, on the whole I think the excellence of the service we received was worth it, and we are very pleased indeed with the shades.

GIl is absolutely wonderful. Very professional, responsible, and detail oriented. I ordered Shangrila sheer window treatments for my living room windows. The fabric is really beautiful. I am very satisfied with the outcome and service. I’m thinking to order the similar shade for my two other bedrooms in the near future!

I also found Day Light on Unilocal.Gil was quick to set up a consultation, and he helped me pick out the best option within my budget. On the installation day, was quick installing 8 different blinds. The finished product turned out even better than I expected! Gil was great to work with and I would definitely recommend Day Light to anyone.

Gil came to our home and helped us pick out the perfect shades, then came back to install them a few weeks later. He is very pleasant and helpful and comes highly recommended!

I found Gil through Unilocal,and my positive experience echoed that of others who reviewed the company. I scheduled a free in-​home consultation and booked that same day, which meant that installation was free. I had previously gone to check out the prices at Home Depot, and Gil’s were similar. He is really helpful and offers many choices. He measured each measurement 3 – 4 times to make sure they were accurate. After I put in my order, he was responsive about keeping me updated on the arrival of the materials. Once they arrived, I scheduled installation and he came by that week to do the work. I wasn’t here while he worked, but I was very happy with the results when I came home. The shades looked great and I’m happy that I don’t have to use temporary paper blinds anymore!

I am an interior designer in Park Slope and I referred a client to Daylight. The project was challenging with many different window treatment types and some custom work. Gil executed everything perfectly and in less time than he estimated. I will gladly use him again on a project of any size or budget.
