Kimbob

I came here multiple times before. I was slightly confused as to where I should order and what the difference was between the two places in the front and back. The front stand is for kimbap rolls and the back was more for Korean food like bibimbaps, wings, etc. My first experience here was on a Friday, at around 6 – 7. The place was literally empty with like two people in there at most. I tried the beef bibimbap in a hot stone pot but they charged me extra which was kinda weird because bibimbaps typically come in the hot stone pot. They gave me a bottle of red pepper paste to make it spicy but no side dishes. They said I had to pay more for side dishes. The bibimbap was decent, nothing special. The price is not worth it considering you get no side dishes and you have to pay extra to have it in a hot stone pot. Overall in the back I found it more like a fast food Korean place and would rather eat elsewhere for traditional Korean food. However, the second time I came I decided I’d try the kimbaps in the front. Once again the place was deserted on a Saturday evening at around 8 to almost closing. The lady was really kind and sweet. She had her hands full with other things to do but she still rushed to help me make my kimbap and even gave me extra picked radish. I chose the spicy beef kimbap. The price was like 7 dollars which was quite reasonable. Overall the front stand was great in all aspects. I would definitely come back for kimbap but not traditional Korean food.

A few friends and I were hoping to try a new place in a very familiar neighborhood. We ended up selecting Kimbob, as we craved korean BBQ.
Exceeded our expectations. The atmosphere was great, the food was delicious (we had a variety of meat, fish, rolls, vegetables, and fruit). The service was also pretty good, as our server went above and beyond to make sure we had a great dining experience. For 23 – 24 dollars per person, for dinner buffet, I would definitely say Kimbob worth the price. In honesty, the experience prompted the writing of a review, coming from someone who usually doesn’t bother to write reviews, ever.
Not only does Bensonhurst finally have a korean BBQ restaurant, but it has a GREAT korean BBQ restaurant.

My beloved Kimbob, thank you for sprucing up my neighborhood with your fine flavors. I’ve been coming here since before they opened, peeking in excitedly to see how construction progressed.
The front counter has a credit card minimum of $ 10. They serve juices and kimbob rolls. They have punch cards! Buy your beverages from this counter.
The back counter is a separate business and serves traditional Korean fast food (bulgogi, ddukbokki, fried chicken, soft tofu soups, japchae, etc) — and now serve all you can eat hot pot and Korean BBQ! I don’t care about the Hot Pot — throw a stick in the air and it will fall into someone’s simmer hot pot, it’s so common around here — but the Korean BBQ?! You have to go to Koreatown to get that, or the Flushing if you want it All You Can Eat.
They have more than one name, which can be confusing. Outside, it says Kimbob, but also has smaller signs for Coco Chicken, which appears to be the fried chicken fraction of the menu at the back counter. When paying by credit card, you’ll see ‘Han Cook’ on your statements, regardless of which counter you order from. Both counters appear to do catering, not clear if they offer the same catering or not. They used to have a beverage fridge that had shelves of cold banchan, but that is now gone. Every time I visit, they’ve added something exciting and new. I wish they marked which items are Gluten Free on their menu — for example, the Korean BBQ Potato Crust Pizza sounds like it has no wheat, but who wants to be wrong? Internet password has been removed from the wall, sadly, though the WIFI network is still there.
Oh yeah — the yellow pickles are AMAZING, worth ordering a side of should you decide not to get a kimbob roll.

I’ve been meaning to try this place out so I finally went today. I didn’t have cash on me so I paid by credit card. I didn’t realize there were two cash registers. in the back it said minimum 15 bux. I thought I could just order one kimbob and one bibimbop and pay at one spot. I just ordered the Belgian fries to make the minumum. Total confusion on my part. Anyways… I ordered the spicy squid kimbob since all the reviews mentioned it. and beef bibimbop. It’s nice that they have Korean people working there. not like Japanese restaurants where Chinese people only work there. the food was good. presentation was nice. eating them together made me so full… I only ate some of the fries and gave the rest to a friend. will go there again and try their other kimbob. so many pieces!

My girlfriend ordered from here 25 minutes before closing and the lady who made our order was really nice. We found this gem in the neighborhood completely by chance on and decided to try it out. Prices were super affordable and quality of food was perfect! We ordered 3 kimbap rolls (spicy tuna, beef, and spicy squid). For the Korean food seekers, the quality and taste of their food matches those from ktown and northern boulevard. Definitely give this quaint shop a try if you’re nearby Bensonhurst or Bay parkway!

The first time I went, I ordered a seafood jjambbong. It was ramen… and I paid 10 $ for it. The second time I went, my party ordered a burger and chicken wings (overpriced once again) but it was really good…
I would stick with the kimbob in the front. The rolls were super good and worth the price. The juices were good too but a bit on the pricier side.
They’re supposed to open a All you can eat Korean BBQ menu. Im waiting to see how that goes.

I had a craving for kimbap and I remembered my friend told me this place is good. I stopped in early one weekend and ordered a spicy squid, spicy beef and kimchi. I’m so glad that they decided to open up here in Brooklyn and the fact that they make the kimbap fresh after you place your order. I also appreciate that it’s msg free. The ladies who work here are friendly and everything is made in a very clean manner. My favorite of the three that I ordered was definitely the spicy squid, it was so flavorful. I thought the spicy beef was pretty good too, but it wasn’t really spicy and the beef was a tad on the dry side. The kimchi one was good, it’s a good option if you want something that’s good and non spicy. I would like to come back and try their other kimbap!

This place has the worst Korean food I’ve ever had! I don’t know how they got so many good reviews but my experience was totally disappointing. My seafood jjam bbong noodle was horrible. First of all, they used instant noodle which I’ve never seen in an authentic Korean place. Additionally, the soup tasted like it’s seasoned with a mixture of packaged udon noodle powder and instant noodle seasoning powder. I couldn’t believe I paid $ 10+ for instant noodle soup with a few pieces of seafood (one big shrimp, some squid and mussels. All the Korean restaurants I tried in Korean town in Manhattan are 100x better than this and only a dollars or two more than this one. For this quality I just felt cheated having the pay the price they charge.
The Bi Bim Bop was ok although the beef was a little too sweet for me. And they have to charge you $ 1 to have it in a stone pot!
This restaurant is a fast food style where you have to order your food at a counter and pick up your food yourself on a tray. My tray was not flat and it was just annoying. The servant’s attitude was ok. I was a little surprised that the restaurant was almost empty on a Saturday night except a table of 3 and who seemed to know the owner. After having their food I’m not surprised that they had no customers. I’d rather spend my money somewhere else.

I like this place. It’s a neighborhood joint, isn’t fancy, but this kimbob is better than woorijip or hmart, costs about the same BUT has better ingredients. The rice to ingredient ratio is also just right. Overall, I really enjoy having kimbob here and the ladies are super nice. FYI, don’t expect prepackaged rolls, they’re classy enough to make them to order.

First time at kimbob. Saw it with a buddy many times before when we went to the gym and finally decided to stop by. They have two counters, one for more quick fast food and juices and one for more hot kitchen food. We got a bulgogi bimbimbap, soy garlic wings, eel kimbob and juices.
The wings looked good and taste pretty alright. I’ve had better. But I’ve definitely had worse. It was $ 7 for 6 and could be a bit cheaper, but wasn’t killer either. I only wish the wings/​drumsticks came in a combo.
The kimbob was on point. We ordered the eel kimbob and compared to other kimbobs I’ve had in all price ranges, this one is one of the best bang for buck.
The bimbimbap comes out on a hot stone looked good. The taste wasn’t bad either and for the price and location, it’ll serve as a good fix when I can’t make it out to ktown or queens.
Overall this place isn’t terrible. The juices are alright but I prefer smoothies to juice. There’s not a lot of korean in the area and I’m surprised there aren’t more ppl here. This is definitely a local go to location for korean food.

This review is only based on the kimbob since it the only thing I had here. I had the Eel Kimbob (Number 15) and Spicy Beef Kimbob (Number 10). I highly recommend both since it was amazing. The korean lady that took my order was extremely friendly and soft spoken. The kimbob is prepared in front of you so you know it is not pre-​made but fresh. It was really delicious and really filling at the same time since I was straving. I didn’t have time to sit in the restaurant to eat but I will be back soon for a dine-​in experience and update the review then!

There is two different food centers: one for Kimbob and another for chicken wings and other stuff named Coco Chicken (located in the back). This place is self service.
The fries are really good, really crispy and not in small portion. The wings are small size though, doesn’t look big in the bowl they’re served in (which is huge). The sweet spicy chili wings taste good, it has a sweet and sour taste to it with a little hot sauce.
The kimbobs are pretty good and there’s a lot of pieces for you to eat by yourself and share. We ordered eight in total: chicken, avocado, beef (regular & spicy), squid and eel. The chicken (#14) honestly doesn’t even taste spicy. The avocado one was good, it was full of avocado. The eel tasted a bit weird, didn’t have the eel taste. The spicy beef definitely tasted better than the original, it wasn’t really spicy though, just a hint of it. The squid was pretty good too, didn’t have a overpowering taste.

OMG! Bensonhurst’s first ever Korean food store! –hyperventilates– Kimbob doesn’t only sell Kimbap (Korean sushi rolls); they also offer bimbop (mixed bowl of greens and proteins), soup, noodles, rice, etc. I ordered their eel kimbap for $ 7, which tax, I believe it was $ 7.53. The kimbap was freshly prepared right in front of you (well, not exactly… it’s prepared behind a counter, but it’s still fresh, compared to places like Woorijip). The eel kimbap was delicious and I enjoyed it very much! I will be back!
Tip: Get their rewards card on the counter. Buy 9 kimbap orders and/​or 9 smoothies/​juices, and you’ll get your 10^th kimbap and/​or juice for FREE.
PS: They also sell smoothies!

Solid kimbap that’s made in front of you, under the supervision of the Korean granny — yay for authenticity! There were 12 pieces that came with my order of the spicy squid with beef. It was well flavored, with a good amount of beef but only one slice of squid. Would come back to try other kimbap and perhaps the hot food menu! It kills me a little on the inside knowing that I can get 2 rolls of sushi for this price in the area…
However, I’m so excited to have our first Korean restaurant in the area!

Finally there’s a real Korean restaurant in this neighborhood!
Their kimbobs are very traditional, beef and spicy squid are must-​order! Now they are even serving Korean fried chicken, soy garlic favors are crazy good! I give them five stars because I love their service too.

Another update! found shit in my food !
Update ! Tried the tofu soup, it’s not the same as the ones you have in the city. Don’t recommend to try. They don’t use the hot stone as a bowl for the tofu soup. My husband ordered a bi bim bap and was satisfied. Anyways the kimbap is good ! If you don’t want to travel far then just order the kimbaps, other than the tofu soup.

I’m not too sure this place will withstand the curse.
It seems a new restaurant takes over this location every couple of months and the trend looks to continue with Kimbob. There are two separate stores within one here. The front serves kimbob while the back serves hot food. The front is much better than the back. The kimbob was priced around $ 6+ and was filled with the filling of your choice. The hot food in the back needs more work. The glass noodles were all chewy and stuck together. The seafood pancake was just a lot of fried scallions and not much else. The beef noodle soup had more bean sprouts than noodles.
This is a cool place to hang out if you’re in high school and need a place with free wifi. But if you’re an adult and want food that’s worth it, avoid this place.

This is the third place to open in this spot inside of two years. We had the ill fated but missed (by me) Boat House and then that Phở place that lasted about 2 months. Now we have Kimbob and I have been saying for awhile we need some Korean spots in the Hurst. Man cannot live on cheap sushi alone.
Well this place is kinda odd as it is really two places, so should I do two reviews? I guess. This one is for the front of the shop which consists of Kimbob, Juices and I think Ramen. The back is cooked food like Bi Bim Bap, I will try the coked food at a later time. Today I tried the front and ordered the Spicy Beef KimBob which is Spicy marinated beef, egg, carrot, fish cake, radish and spinach and the Combination Kimbob which was Sausage, cheese, mushroom, carrot, kimchi, radish and spinach. All wrapped up in rice and Nori. To be honest I wasnt that crazy about it. Kinda reminded me of a Futomaki roll which is a take it or leave it roll for me. Everything was fresh but it all kinda tasted the same though I guess I would take the beef roll as the american cheese in the combi roll was just off putting and the Kimchi wasnt hot enough. The rolls are quite large so thats a plus and the store is immaculate and the service was friendly if a tad confused. Really wanted to like it more. Maybe the back will be better for me. Also not sure why most of the food is only available for catering. Still need a real sit down Korean place in the area or at least a good Korean fried chicken spot.

As the first Korean restaurant in a non Korean neighborhood, one would have low expectations. However Kimbob had exceeded my expectations. When I walked in, the place was already packed which is definitely a good sign. As I looked over the menu, I decided to go for the beef bibimbap and spicy beef kimbap. When I ordered at the front, I was told I could only order kimbap there and that the bibimbap can only be ordered in the back. I was confused as to why this was but I went with it anyways. All the ladies prepared juices and kimbap fresh on the spot.
I went to the back and placed my order of beef bibimbap. I’m pretty sure both places are separate, the front accepted card while the back was cash only.
I grabbed a booth seat while I waited and realized there were no servers, so this is more of a take out place. The kimbap vendor calls out your order number when it’s ready and the hot foods vendor brings out the food to you. When he brought it out, I asked him if they were separate vendors to which he confirmed. Apparently it’s a co sharing space between two owners serving Korean food.
Either way is fine by me because the food was good. The spicy beef kimbap could be more spicy, there wasn’t any spiciness to it at all. The beef bibimbap was served with gochuchang sauce which adds flavor to the dish, I wish there was more beef though. All in all, not bad as the first Korean restaurant in Bensonhurst! Worth checking out.
