If you guys think this is soul food or so called good fried chicken then you obviously haven’t been to the south. Being from the south I was extremely disappointed in mama’s efforts at these southern dishes.

Got the fried chicken and cornbread side. YUM! Really digging the rosemary with the fried chicken, nice flavor combo. Quick and friendly service and great portions. Definitely going back to try more!

after many visits to the east village location, Mama’s will always & forever have a place in my heart xoxoxoxo after one visit to the new Williamsburg location, I’m pretty sure that this is more-or-less the same restaurant, just transplanted across the river. The food and service are ONPOINT. You can feast here for $ 13.50(main + two sides), in a great atmosphere, to boot. Respect; these guys have been doing their thing since the 1990s. If you’re like me, in the 90s you were wearing sweatpants, listening to Ace of Base cassettes & attending middle school, not even realizing how much you loved fried chicken & collards.

Hate to say this but the sides are really the only thing I can get here anymore, if I’m just super bored of all the other amazing other places around here. I’ve tried the bacon-wrapped meatloaf, fried chicken, and pork shoulder. Also, many different basic sides. I didn’t really think someone could mess up BACON-WRAPPEDANYTHING, but sure enough. Ok, gave it another try. Pork shoulder, basically pulled pork and tastelessness. Alright alright, fried chicken. I’m sorry, I don’t like to eat a bit of chicken with bushels and bushels of rosemary. Have you ever tasted this fried chicken? Can you taste anything BUT rosemary? I don’t see how it would be possible not to. A little bit goes a long way here folks. Pies and Thighs Fried Chicken is far superior. Who knows, maybe the brunch is ok.

Ok so I’ve been a Mama’s Fan since I moved to NYC in 2002 and was stoked when the opened a shop on the S. side but i’m sad to report that this place is a abortion of a eatery. Breaking restaurant 101 rules left and right, first we walk in on a chilly dec night and all the food was ice cold seriously everything, for the life of me I cannot understand why they wont invest in some basic warming plates, steam trays etc. who wants frozen veggies, frozen oily veggies so much oil everywhere. Onto the next flub no mashed potatoes, we ordered them they never came then after eating the counter person said we could take them to go… they still never came. Then that counter person left for the evening, didn’t tell the night shift person that we had been waiting a half hour for mashed. She of course had no idea what i was talking about when i asked for a refund. They eventually gave me $ 2 total on both plates. The cold fried chicken was the only standout dish every thing else was on par with Thruway side Boston market or the Sizzler.

Yay! Mama’s in BK! Chicken + Waffles? Poached eggs and Mac? Brunch just got Real on the South Side. My only complaint was that there were no Collard Greens. Baby Arugula had to suffice, and suffice it did with the house made Vinagrette. We’ll definitely be adding this to the regular schedule. Cozy vibe, courteous kitchen staff. It’s order and seat yourself style. Sit anywhere, so don’t expect fancy table service.

Sweet baby Jesus, there is a Mama’s in Williamsburg? It’s like you just walked out of the rain and into your friend’s house, and your friend is casually serving you heaping portions of comfort food. And your friend’s mom cooks really well. I was worried Mama’s wouldn’t live up to my East Village memories, but there was no need. Good food, friendly people, casual like-you’re-at-home setup, lots of mama pictures: all the essentials are preserved. And there are still enough veggie options for a vegetarian like myself to have a hard time choosing what to eat. The chalkboard casually invited me to join Mama’s for brunch this weekend. Challenge accepted.
