My Private Exterminator

Rodney was great. I had been living in my apartment for nearly three years when I got a roach infestation behind the cabinetry and stove in my kitchen. I still have no clue how it started since I barely cook, live alone, and I’m relatively clean, but it had gotten totally out of control and was psychologically really wearing on me. I had tried a lot of band-​aid solutions – raid perimeter spray, excessive cleaning… I’d gotten rid of my entire trash can and was using plastic bags for the «trash can» that I’d take outside to the bin every night. I have a cat and had been avoiding using an exterminator for months because I didn’t want poison all around the floor where my cat my walk through it or lick it.
But finally I was ready to cry and I called Rodney. He responded promptly – from when I called he was there within 36 hours – and told me how to prepare my apartment for the treatment. He and a guy named Sam came by and we did a quick walk-​through to show him where I was seeing roaches come out from/​go into it, and he sprayed and put gel down in those areas. 15 – 20 minutes later they were done and he was basically like damn, you had a ton of roaches lol. He told me instructions for replacing my dishes and things, how soon to let my cat back in, and warned that sometimes it took more than 1 treatment esp considering how bad my situation had gotten because of how long I’d waited, and to call him in a week if the issue wasn’t resolved.* In a week I was still seeing some roaches though far less than before, so I called him and he sent Sam back over who did about 5 mins of touch-​up spraying, free of charge. Sam also advised me to use silicone caulk to fill in gaps between my countertops and wall, the floor and the wall (it’s an older building so there are some small gaps in he woodwork). I followed his instructions and that plus his touch-​ups have pretty much completely resolved the issue! I think the caulk was the extra step I needed. I have since (it’s been 4 mos) seen a total difference. It’s just completely different. I feel back to normal. I don’t get scared opening my kitchen door and turning the lights on, or opening cabinets. I don’t worry when people come over. Living with that anxiety was so stressful.
I highly recommend Rodney’s company. He and Sam were both prompt, informative and responsive, and very professional. Also, reasonably priced! They’re in and out – handle their business very efficiently – and they care about a job well done. I’m so grateful to them for their services because I was literally at my wit’s end. They’re great!!!
*NOTE: They don’t do warranties for roaches. That’s the one type of critter they don’t do warranties for because as Rodney explained to me, so much of why people have roaches has to do with cleanliness and personal habits in how you keep your space. Which is reasonable, but just FYI. Him coming by again was just him extending a gratuity he certainly could have charged me for, and I wouldn’t have blamed him, so I appreciated that.

— see a mouse scurry behind the fridge and promptly want to kill myself
— call Rodney at my Private Exterminator
After I called Rodney, he was so quick and responsive and told me he could have one of his technicians over at my place the next day. Sam, the technician, was so nice and respectful. He did EXTENSIVE searching for any holes through which mice could enter the apartment, and found some pretty big ones behind the oven /​fridge area. He filled the holes up and left bait everywhere so those mofos would die if they ever tried to get back into my apartment.
Besides doing a great job, the price was VERY REASONABLE for the work they did. I had previously called some other companies I found on Unilocal,and some were quoting me over $ 900!!! Absolutely insane. Rodney & Sam did it for less than half the price of that and did a great job. Would highly recommend.

This review is Looooong overdue, I called Rodney earlier in the year because I used another company that charged me more only to have my mice problem come back within a few weeks. So I gave My private exterminator a call and out Rodney came a few days later. Boy did he go to work looking here looking there moving this moving that sealing this and that. He ended up finding the whole the mice were coming in from and double sealed it with like a small wire looking type fence-​thingy. Still to this day I’m very grateful for Rodney coming out and getting on his hands and knees to actually look around and see where the mice may be coming from. It’s been more than 6 months now and NO MICE thank you again Rodney. He’s a very Nice Guy also

Amazing! I’ve had great experience with my exterminator twice. I had been living in a one bedroom in the west village — just moved in. And saw a mouse in my kitchen. The first time, sam, came and found a huge hole behind the stove. Filled it and checked thoroughly around the rest of my apt. All was good for three months. Recently I saw mice for five consecutive days — not okay. I called up and had Rodney come. He found several holes behind the dishwasher and cabinets. While it was disappointing that he found huge holes, I wouldn’t have wanted anyone else nor would have I trusted anyone else. He was so nice and made me feel comfortable. You’d be silly to not hire Rodney if you run into a rodent /
Bug situation.

After seeing my original poor review because of warranty issues — Rodney called the next morning and sent someone out the following day for treatment.
I’ve never met Rodney, but his exterminators are friendly and efficient. I would just suggest that if you use them — make sure to be very good about calling EARLY within the 90 day warranty period. he may not want to come out if it’s close to 90 days, and you don’t want that headache. Also — pay cash if you can, to avoid extra taxes for using credit card.

Every time I call Rodney, his voicemail is always full or he doesn’t pick up. They need to do a better at customer service. My problem returned within the warranty period and I’ve been calling and calling and calling. Now I’m outside the warranty period. I had to call another company.

I can’t give it 5 only because it hasn’t been long enough to be sure– but Rodney was great. punctual, thorough, and friendly. took his time, paid attention to detail and so far, no more mice!!! highly recommend him.

I called the number and got a voicemail. I left the message 3 days ago and no one called me back.

I have been meaning to write a review for a while, and was just reminded when a coworker asked for a recommendation.
I had mice in all three apartments of a rental brownstone building, but I didn’t want to set traps everywhere and have a bunch of mouse carcasses to clean up. Rodney explained every step of his process. He looked inside the lower cabinets, pulled out the appliances, and closed up every possible mouse entry point with metal mesh. There are pets in the building, so I told him I was worried about the use of poison. He assured me he would only use chemicals inside the walls where no pets or people could possibly be exposed.
I didn’t realize it could be this simple, but I guess it only works if you are methodical and thorough. Rodney is both of those things, and I never had a mouse again after only one visit.
Rodney and his assistant were prompt, polite, and professional. I highly recommend My Private Exterminator.

Rodney and Sam are great with decades of experience in pest control. They came to our apartment on short notice and did a great job. They are professional, knowledgable and reliable. For both treatments, they arrived earlier than the appointed time! I highly recommend their services.

yeah rodney is a great guy. I called him cause I had what sounded like a fairly large animal crawling around in the ceiling of my top floor apartment. he showed up right on time, ready to do the job. the other exterminators I called all wanted to come look at the job, then return to do it, probably charging a lot more money.
Rodney had a very logical approach to dealing with the problem than the other people I consulted — realizing that if we gassed the ceiling cavity with poison and the animal was large, it would stink for months. So, he opted for some other potion to flush out the animal instead of poisoning it or trapping it inside. the other exterminators were hesitant to do ANYTHING because of the worry of the smell, and also that if it were mice or rats they would escape deeper into the building and eventually come back. it didn’t seem like they were aware of the flush-​out potion that rodney used. it worked like a charm — the squirrel came flying out.
he also looked at some ants I’ve been plagued with on the first floor and set my mind at ease by telling me they were harmless (rather than carpenter ants) and how to get rid of them myself.
he charged me less than half of what he could have. he’s a hard working guy, fairly priced, and fun to hang out with.

Rodney was amazing.
He came to us on super short notice after we prepped our whole place for bedbug extermination and the exterminator our landlord sent was TERRIBLE. I would tell you more about that because it’s a tragic comedy involving the «exterminator» wanting to use my toilet brush on my headboard. But I don’t want you to confuse that guy with Rodney of My Private Exterminator.
After I ejected the aforementioned, let’s-add-feces-on-your-bed-to-your-problems «exterminator» I called Rodney. I chose him based on all I read on Unilocal and because he’s my neighbor.
Not only was he free that afternoon, and able to come over within the hour, but he also made me laugh. Which was a much-​needed gift that day.
He did say that his ability to come so quickly was because another appointment he had scheduled had just cancelled and because I am his neighbor — he normally needs more lead time.
He was quick, friendly, kind, professional and funny. He came twice. We have been bed bug free since December. We are very grateful to him. I would recommend him to anyone for bedbug extermination and as an all-​around nice guy.

Rodney was great, such an awesomely sociable person and did a great job. Charged less than the actual job should have cost, because it was the original price he quoted. Highly recommended!

Extremely professional, always comes the first thursday of every month and keeps my home bug free! Nice family business and Rodney is a friendly and warm professional.

After an awful nightly rat encounter in the basement, I called My Private Exterminator Saturday morning and he said he would come the same day at 6pm for a complete service. Well, well he did not come before 9pm (after many calls from me) but he did come, removed a dead animal and set traps all around and checked the entire floor. He said he would come as a favor the next day to monitor the situation. This was not part of the regular service and it is true that we had discussed it at first. Well he came on Sunday again very late, killed the rat that had not been for the poison and noticed a hole in the bathroom and an ant infestation. He said he would come again the next day to close the hole. Monday morning he is almost on time, does all he had said he would do and even took care of the ant infestation.
If you are willing to be patient, My Private Exterminator offers personalized services at a very decent price. I believe he was just overbooked over the weekend working like crazy and did just did his best to help and comfort a panicked lady. I will use his services again if needed! Hope NOT.

This is my first review but it was definitely warranted. I feared that I may have been infested with bed bugs and after reading his great reviews I figured I’d give My Private Exterminator a call. He called back asking if I had any photos of the bug I found. I was able to text him the photo and he immediately called back to let me know it was a spider beetle (phew). Despite that, he still offered to come by to inspect my place to make sure.
Later that evening he came by and did a thorough inspection to put my mind at peace that I was free and clear.
I will be recommending Rodney to anyone I hear that needs his services. He went above and beyond what he had to do.

I was in need of an exterminator, came on Unilocal and decided to call Rodney since all of his reviews have been 5 stars. I called, left a message and he promptly called me back. I was completely freaked out that I thought I had a roach problem. Rodney came first thing the next morning to assess and exterminate my apartment. Rodney and his partner were extremely professional, efficient and thorough in their cleaning/​exterminating. Rodney is extremely knowledgeable and educated me on these creepy crawlers and how to prevent them from coming into my home again. Rodney even called me a few days later to see if I had spotted any more.
Rodney is extremely profesional, through and I GUARANTEE, he will get rid of whatever you need to get rid of — forever! 10 stars all the way!

I feel compelled to write this review after my great experience with Rodney and his company today (not that needing extermination services is ever really great to begin with).
I called Rodney on Sunday and he was able to come immediately the next morning to address my roach problem. I’ve had an occasional monthly exterminator come on behalf of the landlord every month for «precautionary» measures and all they usually do is walk in and spray for a minute and walk out.
Rodney, on the other hand, was incredibly thorough and sprayed everywhere in the kitchen and bathrooms, as well as laid a poison gel inside the outlets since they were open. After that, we found the source and he sealed up the hole under the bathroom sink with a wire mesh, after a good spray, to prevent any more from coming in. Total annihilation. I can now see what good service means when it comes to pest control. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend him — thanks a lot Rodney.

Mice have returned but Rodney will be treating the issue tomorrow with my 90 day guarantee, stay tuned

Rodney is not only professional and fast, he’s extremely reassuring. You know your pest problem will be controlled.
I called him for bed bugs and he immediately sent me an email informing me of what I needed to do. He did my entire apartment for a great price, but our landlord still wanted to nickel and dime him. Rodney was there, on our side, informing our landlord of the real legal responsibility that landlords have to pest control, and this includes bed bugs. It’s only been two days since he treated the place, and he even informed me he thought it was a small infestation to begin with, but I still see no evidence of their return.
He does a follow up investigation for bed bugs (as is required by NYC) 2 weeks from the initial date, and I’m very hopeful that we’ll be all clear.
Rodney is awesome.
