The head guide Elias Vaisberg has 8 years kayak fishing experience and has caught numerous trophy species in NYC including striped bass to 50lbs (49″) and multiple summer flounder over ten pounds (31″ plus). You can learn all about NYC waterways and how to catch different types of fish in them.

Services Offered — You can book a guided trip with Elias for the following:

You are a new fisherman or new kayaker looking to learn best practices both fishing and safety related.

You want to learn general strategies for a specific species ie: striped bass, bluefish, weakfish, fluke (summer flounder), scup, and tautog.

You want in on a hot bite, reports are updated daily under the fishing reports tab.

History

Established in 2015.

NY Kayak Fishing Services was started by Elias after he completed his NY Fishing Guide License. Many local anglers know Elias through YouTube and local accomplishments in tournaments and writings in fishing publications.

As the sport of kayak fishing has grown Elias’s experience is often tapped into for new anglers or anglers looking to perfect an approach on a specific species of fish.

Hello fishing enthusiasts and outdoor lovers!

I have been kayak fishing in New York City for over eight years and fishing here for over ten. I provide guide services for new anglers or new «yakers» looking to familiarize themselves with water bodies such as: Raritan Bay, Jamaica Bay, NY Harbor, and Western Long Island Sound.

I like to target all species that frequent our waters with a variety of different methods from artificial lures to live baits. I’ve won several tournaments in the last few years and have competed internationally in the Hobie Fishing Worlds IV in Holland.

I will always do my best to make your trip enjoyable based on your skill levels of kayaking or angling and try my best to provide opportunity for having a great day of fishing and spending time on the water. Many clients in addition to fishing love to pick my brain about our coastal water ways and best methods on all different species that frequent NY waters through seasonal migrations.

Elias was awesome! He had everything loaded up — ready for us and waiting. It was pretty cold out but he had gear to keep us warm in addition to all the rods, reels, rigs required. I was worried we were going to get skunked given the weather, but we pulled in probably a couple dozen a piece. It was a total blast. We’ll be fishing with Elias again in the spring.

Went out on a trip with Elias — It was awesome — I wanted to get out with someone knowledgable since I never been kayak fishing before. He gave me great tips and taught me a lot in a 4 hour session. Mots importantly he put me on some fish.

Finally someone that knows what hes talking about!
Elias clearly does his all the time! I was referred to him by a friend, after having many unsuccessful fishing trips at places like sheepshead bay. I did not like the fishermen there who were rude and condescending.
Right away I noticed that Elias knew EVERYTHING about Kayak fishing!
He was nice, informative and funny. He managed to catch a 39″ Striped bass in front of my eyes! I could not believe it. What a behemoth of a fish!
I caught a fluke that day, it was a nice size and Elias taught me how to clean and care for it. I made it for dinner that night and was extremely proud to eat my own catch.
All in all I learned a tremendous amount and finally got a fishing experience I genuinely enjoyed. I have already booked more appointments!

I had an amazing time! It was so wonderful to be out on the water. I felt like I was a world away from the city!
I am a complete novice at fishing and kayaking but Elias was a wonderful teacher. He is so knowable about the area and was able to answer all of my questions. I was amazed at how quickly I was able to get the hang of it. This is no doubt due to Elias’s skill at teaching. By the end of the day I had caught several fish!
This would be great for people of any skill level. I will be booking another trip soon!

I booked a trip for blues/​porgies with NY Kayak Fishing Guide Services and it was some of the best fishing I’ve experienced. This was my first time fishing from a kayak and Elias was helpful from launch to landing. The hobie kayak he has is easy for a beginner like myself to get the hang of and I had it down by the time we got to the first bunker school. Bluefish were breaking on top water and we were in an area that could not have been reached by a motorized boat. I’ve seen bunker schools from party/​charter boats but nothing compares to floating and fishing amongst a school in a kayak as it is being attacked by blues. It was an amazing experience to say the very least.
Once we had enough of catching blues on top water we switched up to porgies. Drifting over a shallow (6′) rocky area we caught jumbo scup up to 17″ in length. We must have caught over 15 each, it was nonstop action until we ran out of bloodworms. Kept a few of the biggest ones for the table and released the rest, but if I wanted to I could have limited out. Elias didn’t hesitate to share his techniques with me and his advice definitely helped me improve the amount of fish I landed. If you want to catch fish I recommend booking a trip with Elias, it’s as close to a guarantee of catching fish as it gets. I know I’ll be saving the money I spend on party boats/​charters and instead going with NY Kayak Guide Services from here on out.

As a beginner, I was excited but fairly nervous at my first Kayak fishing experience. Elias laid out all the information and gave me a solid introduction as to what to expect from the weather and the water before we set out. The day started out tough, but Elias quickly showed me why he’s an expert at what he does and his guidance along the water was superb. After taking me around several areas and combating some less than ideal weather, he landed a large 6.5lb fluke as the first fish. He then caught a few more keepers and by the end of the day, after watching him and listening to his direction, I was able to catch my first legal flounder!
All in all it was a great experience. I learned a lot as a novice on the water and felt very capable by the end of the day, catching not only my first legal keeper but getting a general feel for how to catch flounder using the techniques Elias taught me. He explained and showed the baits he used, techniques with the rod and provided some general info about the behavior of fluke in the water. If you’re considering Kayak fishing in the NYC area, I highly recommend Elias’ Fishing Guide Services. You’ll have a great time on the water, learn a lot about not only fishing but also the history of the area you’re in as Elias provides historical tidbits while you float along the coasts, rocks and bridges.
I’ll be booking another trip before the summer’s done!

Wanted to try fishing on a kayak for a while… Found Elias via youtube and facebook and booked him for as soon as he got a loaner kayak. Went out with him this am and got comfortable on the kayak very quickly. The Hobie is great — very easy to control via the foot pedals and the rudder. If you’ve never been on one — its a great experience. I had some trouble getting going with a proper lure presentation as I never fished in a seated position. Elias was very patient and after some observation, tweaks and encouragement I got the hang of things and it was FISH ON from then on. Lots of good action through out the outing.
Elias is a great guide. Knows the right combo of tide/​wind/​location/​etc to produce fish and create a fun experience. I am already discussing my 2nd outing!

I’m a lifelong fisherman, but only got into kayak fishing in the summer of 2013. I met Elias a few months later through some chance occurrences on the water. Elias always gave me great advice regarding fishing from a kayak, and over the past two years, I’ve been able to catch more fish on my kayak than any other fishing season on a boat or from the surf.
Elias is a wealth of fishing knowledge, and is some kind of fish whisperer. If you’re looking to learn about fishing in general, or fishing from a kayak, there is no one better.
