Staff are nice and generally attentive. They accept donations during open hours, so I was able to take a bunch of clothes at 6:30PM on a weekday and just dump them in a big bin they have at the front of the store. Super convenient. I didn’t buy anything but looked around and they had a decent selection, and you can’t beat the prices.

most of my apartment is furnished from this place. a great place to go if you like to hunt for gems. if it weren’t for the clinic that benefits from their sales, i wouldn’t wanna blow up this spot. however, it would be selfish af for me to hide this from the world. the prices CANNOT be beat. and the staff are the best. sometimes i see them more often than i see some of my friends, and i’m not even mad at it.

Beautiful thrift store(The walls are painted pink. I’m biased). And it smells wonderful. BUT the cashier is on the phone having a personal conversation. Meanwhile the line is long. Unprofessional.

I am an avid thrifter. I always come here when I am in town and I have yet to be disappointed. It is small but not crowded or funky and everything is well organized. I didn’t have enough time to look at the books but the selection is great! Next time I will get to the books. Unlike alot of smaller thrift stores they have a decent men’s section.

This is a really interesting concept(sorry if I’m the 100th person to say that) the thrift items are really nice and it’s awesome that there’s a pharmacy inside and who doesn’t love free HIV testing?

I always donate here, and my merch is always good. I used to donate to Goodwill nearby till I find out they were a charity racket, like Salvation Army(which is closer) that gets tons of money from the government but underpays its workers while its CEO makes bank. That’s just plain wrong. Read this:

Every book here, no matter the format or size, is $ 0.25 and there are thousands of books. Most of the books are in fantastic shape. This is unbelievably awesome. On my first trip I bought 5 books and will definitely come back.

I went looking for clothes but found the books. The surplus amount of books at this locale is what keeps me coming, hardcovers for a dollar and a paperback for a quarter, best deal I’ve come across at any thrift store. There are two floors, the upper one w shelves of books, but not hardly the size of the first floor. They have comics, children’s books, records and books ranging in genres that is sure to satisfy anyones palate. Since they are used, some books may be a tad dirty but the ones I’ve found have been in «as good as new» of a condition. I’ve looked around the racks of clothes but haven’t found anything that suits my style, but I’ve seen plenty of people pick something up and taking it directly to the cash register. The books are what keeps me coming, every time I go they have piles of new ones.

The women’s clothing selection wasn’t that great, it seemed like the men’s was better here actually. They had a lot of paperbacks for 25 cents(hardcovers $ 1) which was cool.

I came in here for the first time today. The entire store smelled of cigarettes. Not to mention, a lot of the clothing seemed to have stains on them. When I purchase clothing from a thrift store. I always wash them. However, they should take some pride in the stuff that they are selling. I purchased an item, and only had a $ 20 bill. The woman did not have change for my $ 20. Thank goodness my friend was with me and had some cash. I feel that any business should have a register with at least $ 50 in change.

Unlike the Salvation Army, with their discriminatory policies, and dreary store across the street, Out of the Closet is a huge relief. The store floor staff tend to be refreshingly liberated, and generally are friendly. Where else can you get a free HIV test in a few minutes, and paperback books for 25 cents? I am grateful for their services. The merchandise tends to range in its appeal, as is common in area thrift shops, where finding cool stuff is not immediate, and requires a commitment of time. The prices are not outrageous, as they can be at Housing Works. The store is small enough to get through in short time, unlike the giant Goodwill on Livingston Street. Donations seem to arrive regularly.

My friend and I dropped by Out of the Closet today, and we really enjoyed our visit! First, the store was really well organized. Each circle rack of clothes had a label on it like«Women’s short sleeves, Men’s sweaters,» etc. There are a bunch of bookshelves in the back of the store. Paperbacks are 25 cents and hardcovers were $ 1. Pretty sweet deal! We went through each section, and there are honestly so many great sweaters for the winter that I had to hold myself back. There was a pretty versatile selection of shoes, which were all relatively in good condition. The prices are on the cheap side, which is great! I bought a really cute knit sweater for just $ 3.99 and I know I will be wearing it a lot in the winter! The staff at the store were really nice, and it was a clean and well organized place. I’d definitely head back for another visit, and I would recommend it to anybody who likes thrifting!

Good thrifting with a little bit of style. Due to the fabulousness theme, the window displays are usually a little more colorful than you’d ever hope to see at a Goodwill or Salvation Army. The staff is younger and friendlier than at those places too, and they’re usually playing something with a beat on Spotify. The men’s clothes are well edited – you won’t find things that are stained, stretched out, or even too very ugly. That’s not to say that everything here is a complete find, but all of it is at least worth your consideration. At a thrift store, that saves you a lot of time. My favorite part is the little loft with the bookshelves. It’s a wide-ranging book selection. Most of the books are fiction, but there are also biographies, business books, and travel guides. Once I found a pile of Love & Rockets comics in very good condition. All books are in good condition, and very cheap. It’s fun to stumble across something you’ve never gotten around to reading and giving it a spin. To me, this place has become a bit like a library where you don’t have to bring the books back. If you’re nearby, it’s always worth a quick visit.

Nope. This is not my shop. I just had a look around for furniture, so I cannot say anything about the cloth, but the furniture is not cool. they have a whole basement with things, but its half empty and what’s in it is not good quality. Maybe I came in during a bad week, but I’m not impressed. Upstairs they have mostly cloth and a few housewares. Seems a bit overpriced.

I didn’t see this on the reviews before going here so I’ll say it in mine. It’s «out of the closet» as in gay. Which is fine, I love my gay friends. But not thinking I brought my 9 year old with me and the first thing you see when walking in is a huge bowl of condoms, lol. That’s cool though… They do free HIV tests and give a discount for those who get them, which I loved. They did have a nice selection of clothing for pretty decent prices. I will return when I want to add to my wardrobe. Just popped in to see what they had.
