I’ve been getting my hair cut here for the past year. The guys working there are friendly, quick and all of them do a great job.

Overall, I’d recommend Sal’s if you’re looking for a reasonably-priced, relatively simple haircut. That being said, the fact that none of the resident barbers seem to have learned what a buzz cut, or a crew cut, entails is slightly annoying. Apparently, this has become a lost art, because I’ve encountered the same difficulties during previous trips to the Russian barber shop on 86th St. that I used to frequent, in visits to Sino-American hair stylists in my neighborhood, and while going to old-fashioned, Italian-American shops with the colorful little pole ensconced outside of their establishments. The magazine selection leaves something to be desired, and the barbers have a nettlesome tendency to watch the programming on an elevated TV set while cutting your hair. Although, it must be said that this doesn’t necessarily impact the ultimate outcome.
