Samantha’s Southern Cuisine

I love Samantha’s! Everything I have had there has been made to perfection! From fries, to fried chicken, to candied yams and mac and cheese! I love the family feel you get when you walk in! Very calm and relaxing environment! The servers and owners are very nice and they are efficient! I never had a long wait being there and I have been there many times! I am usually shocked not to see many people in there. I believe this is an undiscovered restaurant and I would recommend for many to eat there.

The chicken tenders with fries are amazing.
Daddy’s home with sweet potatoes and collard greens is a good go to when you can’t make up your mind.
And I think I’m infatuated with the slam delight salad and the grilled chicken salad.
I love the half & half (iced tea+lemonade)
Will go back and highly recommended !

We loved this place me and my friend and sister were hungry and could eat our hands. But still be mindful in quality, taste and quantity of food regardless of our hunger state. The lemonade was amazing the catfish and talapia had me drooling!!!

Loved this place! We called ahead for a larger party and upon entering were warmly greeted by our party’s name. We brought our own drinks and cracked them open while we waited for the rest of our party. Very friendly and comfortable atmosphere here. We took suggestions. on ordering and I grabbed fried catfish. Delicious! Crispy and meaty without being too oily. Yum. We did wait a good amount of time for our food, but we were drinking and socializing anyways and did realize we had a big group. To be honest, I wouldn’t have minded the wait anyways. It’s a small and locally run establishment and I’m sure everyone was working their butts off. I was enjoying myself. My friend called ahead to see if he could order a surprise dessert so the owner brought a cake homemade by her mother. It was her mom’s special recipe! I’m over the moon about this place and I’ll definitely be back. Thank you!

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this place! After searching for a place to eat with my friends for 2 hours (literally) we came upon this restaurant very tired and hungry. The nice and very patient waitress took our orders. We are very indecisive customers and it took us forever to decide what we wanted because everything on the menu looked so delicious. She committed our orders to her memory and off she went.
THE FOOD IS SO FRESH and served piping HOT!!! I love when I receive my food hot and fresh!!! I had the fried chicken dinner «Daddy’s Home» and I cannot remember the last time I had tasty fried chicken. My friends had fried fish; Catfish and Whiting”… SSSSSSOOOOOOOOOOOOO… OOOOOOOOOO…OOOOOOOOOOO­OO delicious!!! The crabcake was loaded with crab, lumbs of it, no skimping!!! The BBQ wings, awe man… YUMMY. Let’s just say that everything we ate was delicious!
Unfortunately, our waitress left and someone else took over. I asked the lady who took over if she was the owner; she said the lady who took our order is the owner!!! NO wonder she didn’t need a pen and pad for our confusing order.
I WOULD DEFINITELY RETURN TO THIS RESTAURANT. If you want great food that’s reasonably priced; Samantha’s Southern Cuisine is the place to go.
OH! Make sure to order the candied yams!!!

So one day a few months ago I has a crazy craving for some real soul food and I ended up googling Samantha’s. It’s owned and ran by one family and you can tell by the love you can taste it .Lo and behold!!! How ridiculously DELICIOUS! Fried chicken, candied yams, and collard greens… which I came to find out were completely vegetarian, total shocker! You would think that the collards had ham or bacon or even smoked turkey, but no. The chef in this place have sprinkled magic in every bit… and then dessert. Peach cobbler… I must have died because I went to heaven. I left with a massive smile on my face and a gloriously full belly.

This place is amazing!!! Seriously good southern food. Great atmosphere and friendly service.

The food here is amazing and the price is very reasonable. If you are looking for a good home cooked meal in Brooklyn, this is definitely a place to go. The portion size is also very good.
My favorite item on the menu is the Samburger which is always fresh and you can tell has been made with care. This is one delicious burger. My second favorite item has to be the steak and eggs for brunch. Everything is well seasoned and cooked with care. Lastly, the fries are amazing.
The one complaint that I do have is that the service is lacking at times, other than that, I have always had an enjoyable experience when I dine there, which is quite often.

My first visit, the Chicken and belgian waffles were great. I recommend eating in with some friends. Very reasonable prices for big portions and lunch menu. There’s a warm family vibe here, with big open window views. I had a great time chatting and eating here.

Service is GREAT!!! I had the smothered pork chops with collard greens, it was AWESOME!!! The table had a red velvet waffle, fried chicken wings, cheese burger, and a full chicken breast… I cannot say anything bad about this place… I recommend the pork chops or the chicken…

This place is absurdly delicious. A welcome change from the well-​appointed yet average fair of Clinton-​Washington. The food is solid and it feels like someone’s restaurant, instead of the amalgomation of 10 branding experts and a so-​so chef. I’m planning to go back today!

I should’ve known something was wrong when, I entered the restaurant at 7:30pm on a Saturday and the restaurant was completely empty. Another warning sign should’ve been the tacky paper menus.
I was apart of a party of 4 and everyone was dissatisfied with their food. The Daddy’s Home fried chicken was dry and lacked seasoning. The macaroni and cheese was absolutely disgusting. The noodles were very soft and mushy and lacked flavor. French fries were okay, but veryyyy salty. Fried whiting was mostly breading, also lacked seasoning. We tried the collard greens not impressed and lastly a hard piece of rock that they call corn bread. The fruit punch tasted like a glass of sugar. All in all the food was the worst I’ve ever had. I didn’t even eat any of it after tasting it.
The service also sucked big time. With us being the only diners there you would think we would’ve received top notch service. NOPE. Our server left the restaurant 10 minutes at a time to go god knows where. The owner eventually comes in with a bunch of her relatives and decides to be loud and obnoxious. On top of that she wasn’t trying to let us use our Foursquare discount. Even though it was valid
PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE. ITS A WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY. I HOPE THEY SHUT DOWN SOON.

As a lifestyle blogger I dine out almost all of the time. Last night I visited this dim resturant with a few friends. The resturant was empty which is usually a red flag for me, but I went with the flow.
For starters the service was pretty poor as I mentioned before we were the ONLY Customers in the resturant, how could this be? Our waiteress was in and out of the resturant (running local errands) when we got out food it looked amazing but it was far from perfect. I ordered the Big Daddy and it was tasteless and honestly a complete waste of money. I also had their fruit punch that was so sweet it nearly sent me into a diabetic coma. I diluted my entire glass with water.
I checked in on Foursquare and a coupon for $ 10 pop up from scout mobb. I thought well at least we’ll get something off for such terrible food and service. I pulled up the coupon but the code wouldn’t come up. I went back and forth with the waitress about the discount and the code for over 10 minutes. When I finally for the code to appear I was annoyed simply because the waiteress didn’t make the process simple she allowed me to scour through my phone to get her the code. That she ended up not punching in because our bill then came to us with a gift card discount.
At this point I was irrtated which quickly escalated to the frustration when I saw the 15% gratuity already added to our bill. We paid for horrible food, service and beverages and I don’t want you to make the same mistake. There are tons of soul food reaturants in NYC don’t waste your time or money at Samantha’s!!!

The food here is amazing in my opinion. the collard greens were good and seasoned well and the mac and cheese was good. wish i had more man and cheese tho. thats my fav food! lol
the bbq ribs i had were so tender it was very easy for me to eat. I came here wit my friend and he said it was okay. but what do he know? he dont taste his food! lmao.
I will be back here again since its an easy bus ride for me to get to! I’m loving it!

Never have I been to a restaurant rated this low with food as good as I had in Samantha’s last night. This restaurant is criminally underrated.
I walked into Samantha’s around 8:30 last night night and the first thing I noticed is that a movie was playing on the big projection screen they have. Immediately my date and I became engrossed in the movie that was playing. The movie thing is a nice touch because as we all know based on the reviews the food doesn’t come out quick (I’ll get to that). Watching the movie kept us entertained and somehow connected with the other patrons in the restaurant as we all laughed simultaneously at the funny parts.
As far as the ambiance at Samantha’s goes, it’s just right. I think they do a really good job at catering to everyone in an area that is at a cross roads demographically. They offer an environment and cuisine that people from any ethnic background or socioeconomic status can appreciate.
Let me get to the food, It was magnificent. I ordered the «Daddy’s home» fried chicken meal and my date got the fried catfish. Each meal comes with two sides so we made sure to order different sides so we could try everything.
The Chicken: Perfectly seasoned, Very crispy yet moist inside. Never tasted chicken with a more perfect texture. I have no idea how they get it that crispy.
Yams: Again, PERFECT. Cooked optimally, not undercooked or over cooked. Flavor was just right, nice and sweet. Perfect contrast to the other items we ordered
Mac and cheese: Tasty. Not my fav side I tasted last night but still very enjoyable.
Collard Greens: So flavorful I wanted to drink the broth. Nothing else needs to be said about that
Seasoned French Fries: Excellent. Freshly cut fries seasoned just right. You can taste the difference between these and those freezer fries most places sell and the sauce they come with take it to another level
Yellow Cake: A perfect conclusion to our meal. Nothing special here, just a good slice of yellow cake.
The food was just outstanding. Everything was seasoned perfectly. Nothing was too salty, nothing needed additional salt. In fact they don’t even put salt and pepper shakers at the table and I never found myself needing them. My only complaint would be the cornbread was a little hard. But considering I tried half their menu and everything else was perfect that would impact my rating.
The service: contrary to all the complaint about service, I have no complaints. Selina was our server and she was great. Extremely personable and her recommendations were spot on. The food took longer to come than most places but this is homestyle made to order food that is clearly made with attention to detail. This ain’t re heated chicken and fish, it takes time to cook these things from scratch.
All in all I had an excellent experience at Samantha’s. It was probably the best meal I have ever had in a soul food restaurant. Even my date who is from the south and very critical of food in New York was impressed. Samantha’s easily earns 5 stars from me.

I’m a Texan living in Brooklyn and I know good southern food. This is a great place with good customer service. The food is good too. The only thing that is keeping them from a 5 star is the time it takes to get the food after it’s been ordered.

Came here on Saturday afternoon with a friend… Ordered the Catfish, Greens and Yams. The food was excellent! Cornbread that came with meal was delicious. Washed it all down with an Arnold Palmer. Sweet potato chips that they give prior to your meal are great as well. Let me say again: THE FOOD WAS EXCELLENT! The atmosphere was nice. good people, good throwback music. Since it was crowded due to a large party, the staff didn’t manage the other tables as great as they could have. Seem to remember only one waitress serving the whole restaurant. Although the food WAS EXCELLENT. It took a while to come out. Our server did apologize for the delay. Which was good. Service is a major part of any dining experience. I would recommend this place to anyone who enjoys Southern Cuisine. Can’t wait to get back and try other dishes on the menu. It won’t be long before my next trip at all.

So I’d like to start by saying that the best part of my delivery which totaled to $ 34 was the syrup that came along with my old oil fried chicken and cardboard waffle. I also got the «twice» baked mac and cheese which wasn’t terrible. I just don’t believe in paying money for food that I can make better at home.
So I know you’re asking yourself. well if you can cook at home, why didn’t you just cook? Well my friends, it is the convenience factor, after being in manhattan since 7am, when I got home at 8:30pm I really just wanted to eat and shower. My mistake.
I’m not saying that this is not the place to get take out from, I’m just saying I will not get take out from this particular place again.

My boyfriend and I ate here three times. We really enjoy the food. All of the side orders are delicious. When ordering my side dishes, I am always so baffled on what to get because they are all so yummy. Green beans are definitely one of my favorites along with the Mac & Cheese. My boyfriends favorite is the candied yams and Mac & Cheese. The entrees we ate were all good, no complaints.
On the down side, the prices are fairly high for the portions. Also, the wait time can be lengthy.
Definitely a keeper!
