I wasn’t expecting to return to Unilocal concerning this matter however I received an expected and strange call from The Pawlor owner. She showed no regard for my expressed concerns about the grooming my puppy received, albiet was quite pushy in defense of her groomer. While admitting that he can and is often rude to humans, she insisted that this behavior never is extended to pets in this charge. After speaking with her I have even greater concern for how my pet was treated while there. And, I hope she uses good sense and does contact me further.

Just by how she even answered the phone not even going to book an appointment. Hello… Yes? We’re closed. That’s exactly how she answered the phone didn’t know whether I was calling the right number or a house number by how she answered. Not welcoming not even through a damn phone can’t even imagine in person how she would be…

Just got back from a wash for our new rescue pup, and Terry (Terri? Terrie? Sorry T!) couldn’t have been more helpful. I was nervous to drop her off but not only does she smell and feel so clean, but I got some wonderful training advice too. Thanks guys!

i needed to get my extremely newly adopted chihuahua deep cleaned in a hurry. He was a big mess from being in a shelter so long. The pawlour took us in right away as a walk-​in and were instantly so kind and caring for him as he is very underweight and quite pitiful looking. They scrubbed him from head to toe, cut his tiny nails and he was even ready earlier than they had predicted. When I arrived to pick him up they said he’d been napping (which I think proves they created a comfortable environment) and everyone was full of compliments and kindness for him. this is clearly a business that cares about the pets that come in. I will to continue to use them whenever this little guy needs a scrub.

I met Terry in the park at off leash hours and learned she was a groomer. I lived in South Slope for 3 years and while running a boarding business I had taken multiple clients dogs here to receive grooming and the results were always wonderful. Clients were happy and would continue to get their dogs groomed there. I have had nothing but positive experiences at this establishment. Terry and her staff are always kind and appreciative and always went above and beyond to accommodate me and my clients dogs. I think being a groomer is very difficult work and they were always sweet and kind anytime I brought in clients dogs or my own.

Jack is a 50lb black long haired retriever collie mix. She did such an amazing job on him. Really happy with the results

I brought my persian cat to get a grooming and Terri did a fantastic job. She is thorough with her work. She spent an hour just shaving down my cat. She was attentive to my pet and did a fantastic job. Nails and the bottom of all 4 paws were trimmed. She trimmed the face a bit so he had a clean cut look. Her works speaks for itself. My cat trusts her enough to go back.

Went here for a solid year then the owner went up with no warning and when questioned hit really rude. I took my businesses elsewhere

I’ve taken my Yorkie there several times. Misako grooms my little one and does a great job. My dog always looks great and Missko listens to your requests.

I was going to call the actual business and demand answers but I think there’s more of a wave if I just write a review.
We took our two 3year old tabbies to get groomed. They told us it was not in their best, short-​haired, interest to get a lion cut. We absolutely understood and just decided to get them «groomed.»
They looked fantastic! Clean and shiny. But, alarmingly hostile.
When I brought them back home I saw their paws were a little red. THEIR NAILS WERE BLEEDING.
They were cut to the shortest I’ve ever seen the nails be cut. There’s a huge danger in hitting blood because that’s a nerve that’s extremely delicate– so much so that Vets advise you to not cut your own cats’ nails.
Well, for me and my cats, we’re definitely not coming back here.
It’s a small, cute place for sure. But I don’t think I can forgive my cats going through any sort of pain for something that wasn’t properly administered.

I am really, really happy with this groomer. My little dog has anxiety and can be difficult to handle, and while I’d like her to have a nice haircut, I’m really more concerned that she doesn’t get accidentally cut or have a terrible time of it. These people are dog people and lucky for me, good at dog haircuts. Ruby looks great and was happy when I picked her up. Thanks Eric!

This place is always inconsistent with their customer service but today was unacceptable and bordering bi-​polar.
I called ahead to let Terri, the owner, know that my wife was running late. She said it was OK and thanked me for letting her know. When my wife arrived, however, it was a whole other story.
Terry was extremely rude and unprofessional. She was angry with my wife because our dog was wet (it was raining out, WTF?!) and because she was late.
When my wife remarked that Terri was being unprofessional she became defensive and even more rude and said that the grooming was going to cost $ 80 this time! It was $ 60 last time we brought him in. She also acted angry that she had to personally groom our dog. Hello? Come again? Isn’t that what we’re paying you for? My wife then said she felt uncomfortable and was going to leave and Terri said that she should and physically pushed her and my dog out of the salon. She made our little 13 lb dog so nervous that he pooped on the floor. Then she changed her mind and said «well, he’s already wet and pooped on the floor» so now I have to groom him.” Wow.
We have never had a business treat us so rudely and act so unprofessionally and then have the audacity to charge us extra for the privilege.
After bringing our dog here for over two years I’m sad to say that this will be the last time we bring our dog there.

I’ve taken my Border Collie here three times for grooming. I had a different groomer each time and each time they did an excellent job. He’s a nervous boy but I feel confident taking him here. He was obviously treated gently. This last time the owner called the next day to make sure I was happy with the cut and offered to make it shorter, but I declined because I was very happy with the job she did. My boy looks great and I’m sure he feels better now that he’s all clean and detangled.
What’s more, she cut the fur on the bottom of his paws. He can now get around on the floor and stairs much better. I had no idea that is what was causing the problem.

Still an awesome cut, still easy appointment times, still super reliable and trustworthy employees, but… a little weirdness on the price.
Had my 5-​pound dog groomed in Feb 2014 for $ 35. Gave $ 50 & told them to keep the change. Come back in May 2014, told price is now $ 60.
Come again?
The price went from $ 35 to $ 60 in 3 months? They’re lucky I can’t make math so I don’t know what % increase that is!
When I inquired about it, the groomer looked a little surprised and the manager said, «We’ll do it for $ 50. We’ve been undercharging.»
That may very well be true, but an all-​of-​a-​sudden-​ginormous increase for existing clients left a bad taste in my mouth. Some amount of managerial finessing of expectations would have gone a long way.
I had given is 5 stars because it was an exceptional value. Now I’ve got to say that it’s average for what you pay. I’ll probably start sticking closer to home.

I have brought my dog here twice for grooming.
Let me separate the experiences:
The first time was when she had an eye infection and I needed the groomer to clean up the hair around the eyes in particular. I also requested the panda special; my dog has black and white fur and the sweetest and most human face– don’t hate.
Upon inspection of the cut, there were some stray hairs around the face that needed to be re-​done. The Japanese lady groomer took care of it. When we got home, I realized the area around her eyes had been trimmed a little too closely to her skin. There were some bald spots around the eyes. You probably couldn’t see it at first glance, but I like to stare at my dog in a creepy fashion. It took a little while for it to grow out, but once it did, well, you can see my picture for reference. She did resemble a much cuter version of a panda.
The second time around, I asked the male groomer for a bear face, rounded out on the face, while keeping at least an inch of hair all over her body and leaving the length on the ears. He did a pretty good job of the face sculpting; I would say she looked better than the first appointment. Once again, we had to clean up the stray hairs a bit.
However, when we arrived home, because I had been so fixated on the face, I noticed a dried red spot on my dog’s body. I realized that it was blood– the groomer had nicked one of my dog’s warts. I was not so happy with that. My poor baby looked at me sadly as I cleaned up her wound. I understand that accidents can happen, but part of grooming should be to check for possible issues.
If I had reviewed it after the first time, Pawlour might have received 4 stars. The good thing about this place is that my dog doesn’t seem depressed after a cut here. The groomers seemed to have amassed many years of experience. I have tried numerous grooming places where my dog would be locked up for hours– from opening time until her mid-​afternoon pick-​up. She would then give me a death glare and major attitude for the rest of the night. Pawlour finished both times within the 3.5 hour mark.
It’s also fairly easy to get an appointment; I called the day of and was able to secure a spot. This is probably attributed to the fact that it is still a fairly new business. On a side note, I believe that all the grooming places in the area raised their prices by at least $ 10, including The Pawlour.
I haven’t decided if I want her to return to this grooming salon. It seems like you have to communicate down to a tee on what you want, which is fine, but there should be space left for the unexpected. All I want is for my dog to have a happy, cute, and most importantly, a safe grooming. I think Pawlour would reap the benefits of being more focused.

Trekked from Astoria last Sat only to find that the appointment I confirmed with Carolina was null & void. Why you ask??? Well Carolina no longer works there. Terri said it had been a few months since she left & the new groomer said it had been a couple of weeks. Who’s lying? Beats me!
Then I was told the price was raises from $ 45 to $ 60.
After trying to talk me into using the new groomer Terri basically said «well Carolina is gone and the price is $ 60» in a very dismissive way, to which I gave her the «you’re so rude and unprofessional» death stare. Guess she sensed my anger and softened her tone and agreed to have me pay only $ 50 for my inconvenience.
The cut teddy got was OK, wasn’t impressed or as satisfied as when Carolina groomed him. They did call me in advance when I was to pick him up. But will I return??? Never! I told the woman I wanted the puppy teddy bear cut on my poodle, she gave me an angular cut that was not the same. I was so agitated by the experience at that point I paid, tipped (because I am still a good person) and left.
But will I return? Hellllll no!

We’ve gone to Pawlour for about a year now and we wouldn’t trust our pup with another groomer. In fact, while visiting family in Massachusetts a couple of months after getting our dog, we brought our rescued 2 year old maltipoo to a groomer there with DISASTROUS results. An uneven cut. Our dog became upset by the groomer’s rough handling and snapped at her, which led to him being muzzled during the cut.
Pawlour has been the exact opposite. Every time we arrive we are greeted by the groomer who makes sure she understands what we’re looking for in our dog’s cut. Our dog gets pretty nervous while we’re there but the staff is patient and understanding. (They tell us he’s much calmer when we leave).
My only complaint is that they only take cash. For a $ 50 basic cut/​shampoo/​nail clipping… you should be able to take credit cards (or debit cards at least!)

Carolina is the best! My shorkie Biscuit has been groomed by her ever since he was a puppy. She has the patience of a saint and Biscuit always come home looking and smelling like a brand new doggie. Carolina would spend more time making sure everything you pointed out is taken care of.
Since she knew I was going to have a baby, she filed Biscuits nails shorter so Biscuit wouldn’t accidentally scratch the baby. she’s so sweet and thoughtful like that. I wouldn’t trust Biscuit with anyone else.

I’ve brought my dog Matlock here twice, after seeing all the glowing Unilocal reviews (and after getting an awful haircut for him uptown that I had to fix myself).
The first time, my groomer was Daniel. I told them that I’d like his body trimmed at level 5 on the clippers, keep his tail long /​on the fluffier side and most importantly, please KEEP HIS FACE ROUND. I don’t know why I am so fixated on this, but I am. I think it’s from all the childhood years of wanting a dog and getting teddy bears that I imagined were dogs. Now that I have a real dog I want him to look like a stuffed animal. Vicious cycle.
Well — Daniel DELIVERED! When I returned to pick up my Matlock, he looked absolutely adorable. Everything was exactly as I described! On top of that, Pawlour expresses the anal glands at no extra cost, and he came with a great bandanna that he still wears to this day when he’s trying to make a good impression. Daniel also told me, to my surprise, that contrary to what the rescue org said he believed my dog to be a Lhasa Apso and not a Shih Tzu, because of his bone structure and size. So Daniel gave me a stellar haircut and took me to school, children. Tens, tens across the board!
The second time, my groomer was Carolina. My mother brought Matlock for me but I included all of my details in writing along with a picture of Matlock’s last cut — basically the exact same requests I made to Daniel. I emphasized again to keep Matlock’s face round like the picture. Well, Matlock came out looking rather different from what I described, and it did take a little getting used to. I could immediately tell that Carolina had done a stellar job, to be sure. but Matlock’s face and ears were cut SO short, that it looked like a very different dog to me. Those of you who are dog owners know that a drastic haircut can make you feel like you’re re-​meeting your dog again for the first time, which is just a weird feeling that I try to avoid.
I’m assuming there was just a simple misunderstanding in the request. Nevertheless, I’m grateful for the experience I’ve had both times at Pawlour. I’ve seen /​heard my share of horror stories about dogs getting cut at the groomers, getting infections, you name it. These people put a lot of time and care into what they do, and both groomers were very gentle with him and his sensitive back legs. Matlock came out of there as happy as can be! And there was an upside to Caroline’s shorter cut — it’s now been 3 months and he’s only just now in need of a trim.
Here’s to hoping I can find a groomer as good as Pawlour uptown for 50 bucks.

Since I recently got my puppy I have to find a place that I could trust! Relying on other Unilocalers, I discovered the Pawlour! I had high expectation of the Pawlour after seeing all the reviews on Unilocal.I have a shih-​tzu/​maltese mix and this was her first time at a groomer! I love the final results of the tail and face which was able to meet my expectations. The fur on the body was a lot shorter then I would of liked yet I would still highly recommend them! The groomers are nice and explained everything they did and from the tail and face are skilled! The salon itself is very clean and has a gate to keep the animals in a enclosed area. My puppy smelled really good at the end of her grooming! This place is worth $ 50!
The only con resulting in four stars is when I got home, I noticed some red spots (Razor Burns) on my puppy neck and some wounds on her ears. I am hoping since this was her first time at a groomer making her nervous and scared resulting in the injuries.
I am coming back for my winter grooming and update this review (hoping to give it five stars)! See you in a couple of months.
