Van Briggle Floors

It is hard for me not to give them a better rating, because I so much fight for local independent businesses. I called the owner because Bob had failed to place an order in time.
I have not felt so brushed off in while. He just did not care.
They are are decent people, have a good product/​price, but they operate on ⁴⁄₅^th speed and I always had to make the call to check on things.
Just annoying, when I bring them really good business.
I would still recommend them.

Bob and crew recently completed a hardwood/​carpet job at our new house. They laid new hardwood in the kitchen and refinished already existing hardwood in the hallway and in one bedroom. (They also re-​carpeted our three other bedrooms.) They made the new hardwood match the existing hardwood perfectly, and they repaired some pretty significant damage on the existing hardwood. Honestly, my wife and I were surprised at how good the existing hardwood looked after VB was finished! It looked brand new! Bob was professional and knowledgable and we would recommend Van Briggle floors without hesitation!

Van Briggle just finished my office floor. They installed ¾×3″ Rift/​Quarter sawn Red Oak. I have a unique oil finish by Woca. It has a satin sheen and looks absolutely AMAZING! Van Briggle does great work. Can’t wait to have them back next year to do the remainder of the house.

Years ago, Bob Van Briggle installed flooring for me, doing a fine job. However, recently, he cancelled 2 appointments, the latter one within 4 minutes of his arrival, based on some «emergency issue.» Timeliness and respect for a customer’s’ busy schedule is very important — both of which Mr. Van Briggle seems to have forgotten…

This review is long overdue. In June 2013, Bob and Bill came out and gave me an estimate on sanding/​refinishing almost 5000 sq ft of 20 year old never refinished red oak floors in most of the rooms (Ipe/​Brazilian Walnut in two rooms), and installing matching new red oak in two of the previously carpeted bedrooms. We had very limited time to do the work, since the movers were already scheduled to bring all our stuff, but Bob and Bill made sure all the floors were finished a few days before our move (except the new floor install in two rooms were sanded and stained a couple weeks later). Bill was really great about keeping me informed of our schedule, and when there was a week delay due to one of the main crew member’s previously planned time-​off, he made sure everything picked up where it was left off. The crew, led by Hu, was professional and courteous and their workmanship was outstanding!

The acacia floor is beautiful, the workmanship is excellent, and Bob is easy to work with. Highly recommended!

Van Briggle refinished the hardwood floors in our Saratoga home this month, kitchen, family room and two bedrooms. The care and workmanship were excellent. Hugh and his assistant Gabriel were exceptionally skilled, timely, accommodating, always communicated what the next day’s schedule was, left the house in perfect condition each day, and were a pleasure to have in our home. Quiet as mice, too! Bill Abraham came by several times to check on progress and to do a final inspection. We could not be happier with this firm and its workmanship. Our floors are restored to their «as-​new» condition after 17 years, a lovely natural red-​oak. When we were soliciting bids initially, we were so impressed with the attention to detail, time spent with us, and comprehensiveness of the written estimate that Bill gave us that we decided on Van Briggle. Bill was also very prompt in responding to our questions during the contracting process. You can do business with them with the utmost confidence. They care about excellent work and they produce it.

I had Van Briggle Floors do the carpet in my home. I know they are known for their hardwood floors. The carpet they installed is the best carpet I have ever laid foot on. I get so many compliments and everyone loves it in the family. I had Dale estimate the project and he was quite professional and gave me a great deal on a carpet job.

I used them in the mid-1990’s when I remodelled my kitchen. I have also referred them to several friends.
This time I have a project to refinish the main floor of my home. I filled out the web form on their site, emailed, and called three times. Talked to someone but I am still waiting for the call-​back that never came. I guess they don’t need the business. Be sure not to give them yours.

We just recently bought our first house, and wanted to replace the carpets in the bedrooms with cork flooring. We got a number of bids, thought over our options, and ended up choosing Van Briggle Floors. Our choice was based not on price alone (while not the cheapest, Van Briggle was competitive), but rather on the reputation for reliability — we had only a month to get everything done and there was no room for any schedule slippage.
What a good decision that turned out to be. As it happened, there was an unforeseen condition that made it more time consuming to lay down floors — earthquake strapping. This required building up the subfloor a bit. Bob Van Briggle took it in stride and assigned more workers to the project so it would be finished on time without breaking the budget — he didn’t charge for the extra material!
When all was said and done, we got just what we wanted — great looking floors. We’re grateful to Bob for a job well done.

I’m so glad I picked Van Briggle to do my hardwood floor.
I bought a house that was fully carpeted, but I knew there was a red oak hardwood floor underneath. I wanted to have the carpet removed and the hardwood refinished. Bill from Van Briggle Floors came out to give an estimate. His knowledge and experience were so apparent that I knew immediately that I wanted them for the job. On the surface, their prices were a tad bit higher than some other places, but I could already tell they weren’t going to nickel-​and-​dime me to death, which others seemed to be gearing up to do.
I scheduled to have the work done, and the Friday before, Bill had his guy come out to get a head start on pulling up the old carpet. A few hours in and I got call from Bob, the owner, who had come out to my property because the crew had found an issue. The living room was about 80% covered with animal urine stains. The hallway was pretty much 100% stained. Urine stains cannot be sanded out.
And thus the adventure began. Every step of the way, I was glad to be working with Van Briggle Floors. I decided to get a new hardwood floor (I really wanted hardwood!). They have a great showroom! I spent quite some time there with Bill and Bob, discussing various options.
Along the way, the crew discovered some moisture in the subfloor. They also discovered live termites, just two weeks after fumigation and subterranean termite treatment. They replaced twelve floorboards. There were other surprises, with a missing joist and questionable support for the subfloor — all taken care of in some way by Van Briggle Floors.
Every time the crew discovered something questionable, they would call Bob (the owner). And then Bob would call me over and we’d discuss how best to proceed. Bill was on site every day and made sure things were going smoothly in general. The process never slowed or stalled, even though there were surprises and changes along the way.
With all the changes and surprises, a less scrupulous or just sloppy company could have put the screws to me each time. Not only did I feel well taken care of by Van Briggle Floors, I think they must have absorbed a bit of the unexpected cost. Yes, they charged for the subfloor work, but I know how much general contractors can charge, and it was much less.
This is all not to mention that the end result looks great. As I started out saying, I’m so glad I picked Van Briggle for my floors.

I called to get a free quote, and Mr. Van Briggle stopped by within a half hour. He informed me my floors in my new house are already sealed and they don’t require refinishing. This is an honest company for sure. I’ll be coming back to Van Briggle when they do need refinishing.

I wanted to have about 1800 square feet of engineered hardwood flooring installed in my new construction home in San Ramon. I had a very good idea of the product I wanted installed before I contacted Van Briggle Floors. I was looking at the Lauzon Brazilian Cherry straight edge engineered hardwood flooring.
The first company I called was the flooring company I used previously in Santa Clara, but they didn’t want to travel to San Ramon for this project. I then interviewed 6 or 7 flooring contractors in the east bay area, and I didn’t feel that any of them were competent, and they all lacked the attention to detail and craftsmanship that I was looking for. One company gave us such terrible advise about how to prep the floor, that had we gone with them, I am sure our floors would be bubbling up with air pockets within a year or two!
I place a lot of value on true craftsmen, and I appreciate when a job is done correctly, and done well. I feel this is exactly what I got with Van Briggle Floors. I went into this project explaining to Bob Van Briggle what my expectations were, and he never flinched. I explained that I wanted a LOT of communication, I want to know what is going on with my job, and I expect the floors to be installed correctly with extra attention paid to the prep of the slab floor, and I want the floors to look GREAT when they were done. I also told him I am *VERY* picky. He sat across the table from me and said, «Denise, there’s no way you are pickier than I am.» I had to laugh at that!
Not only did Bob and his team deliver on what was important to me, but I feel that they went above and beyond. Bob put Tim and Ryan on my job with a couple other guys who seemed to float in and out on different days (and this is exactly how Bob told me it would be at the start of the job). Here’s what I noticed about Bob and the crew during the job:
1. These guys were on my job everyday that they promised to be here.
2. They worked very hard the whole time they were here.
3. They were extremely professional every time I popped in on the job to see how things were going.
4. They communicated with me when issues came up
5. At the start of the job, I was very specific about the issues I was concerned about, and I found Bob and his team to be *VERY* accommodating. Bob even said, «lets talk about this now, otherwise, you’ll worry about this for the rest of your life in this home». I was a little hesitant to bring up one particular issue, but once I did, Bob, his team, and I talked it through, and we came up with an excellent solution, and now I am SOOOOOO glad that we worked it out instead of me just ignoring it. Because Bob was right. It would have bugged me FOREVER!
I’ve managed relatively large and complicated home remodeling projects at my last home, and I’ve dealt with a ton of contractors. I would say that Van Briggle Floors is at the top of my list of great companies to deal with.
All of this being said, I do have a very short punch-​list, which Bob and I have already discussed. I was very impressed with how Bob handled my call after the business was done and I had given him the final payment. Some companies never want to hear from you again once they have all your money (I’ve dealt with those types many times before). Bob was his usual self, promising to continue to deliver however he needs to make me happy with every aspect of the job.
If you are looking for a flooring contractor anywhere in the bay area, I would recommend this company in a heartbeat!

Service with confidence is the way I would some up our experience with recent bamboo floor installation. Sam (the installer) is a craftsman and was unfazed by the canyon they discovered when they removed the carpeting from our bedroom. He took extra care leveling and grinding and we felt reassured to have an installer who cared a lot about ensuring a level subfloor. The extra unplanned work was adjusted for in a reasonable fashion. The finished product is beautiful and we are confident if we ever have an issue that Bob will respond with urgency.

I had my hardwood floors done by Van Briggle Floors, and I’m very happy with their work and professionalism. When I walked into Van Briggle Floors in Campbell, I was pleasantly surprised at their large selection of samples. Bob is the owner and he was very patient with my list of questions and explained to me the various materials and methods of installation. I was very impressed with their customer service, and since his price was comparable to other flooring company, I decided to go with him.
His crew came to work as scheduled, and worked very efficiently. However, 2 days prior to work’s completion, my kitchen was flooded due to mal-​functioning of the kitchen sink. Water had completely covered the kitchen, the living room, the dinning room and parts of the bedroom. I was devastated, so I called Bob to let him know the news. He and his crew came by the next morning to check out the situation. Because the water had soaked thru the hardwood floors, Bob’s crew had to completely remove all the newly installed hardwood floors, and he then suggested I rent a few large fans to dry out the concrete floors (as to prevent molding in the future). I followed his suggestions, and after a few days of drying out the concrete, his crew came back and re-​installed the hardwood floors again. They worked efficiently and completed the work in a short period.
It was a very stressful week, but Bob was definitely helpful in this time of crisis, and his crew worked efficiently to get the job done quickly. If you’re looking for a reliable flooring company, I highly recommend Van Briggle Floors!
